The gold you have is amazing and I need it to build... something. I don't know what yet, but it will undoubtedly be awesomefantastic because of your texture. Just imagine the possibilities!
For me, its mostly because I don't do much decoration. I'm into building bases, hence most of the decoration i use is great landscape or underwater views.
I hope you don't mind too terribly if I steal your idea of making the metal blocks into proper decorations?
You can "steal" any idea you want, Orj. Ideas do best when they're free to spread.

Personally, i'm still not that over-the-top-ecstatic about the textures on the metal blocks, but at least he's done something about them.
Okay, FoxtrotZero, I get the point - you don't like the patterns on precious blocks. You're saying it almost every other post. I've heard you, so now you can stop repeating yourself. The problem is, everyone else (myself included) is quite fond of them. So the patterns are going to stay. You could simply modify the tiles yourself when I release my mod, or else you'll have to avoid using those blocks. It's not that big an issue, and you've been out-voted.
Anyway, these are how the tools currently look (the hoes aren't shown because I haven't finished them yet):
It's really tough to make the pickaxes, shovels, and hoes all look unique. I mean, there's pretty much only one way to make a shovel, you know? The swords and axes are much easier - history will easily show you dozens of interesting variations.

I was being semi-ridiculous. I didn't think there was the slightest chance of objection on your part. More than anything, I wanted to acknowledge that your work inspired my own.
Gotta admit, that looks sexy as hell. Can I see some ingame pics of the gold tools? :ohmy.gif:
Agreed.

I apologize, i wasn't attempting to sway anyone's mind. You're right, and I wasn't aware of how much I was saying it; It was just instinctive to reply whenever someone mentioned it.
Anyway, If i was going to make a suggestion, which I think I will...
Well, less of a suggestion. But my point being is that you made the gold tools look uber (indeed, those tools look uber) when they're only as useful as wood. Now i suppose its more than possible to leave them as is and just claim them as being quite ornate - Its not like you can switch them with diamond, as personally i'm actually rather digging the diamond's unique look, and the rest of them have a rather unique look to them.
It's okay, FoxtrotZero, we all have little things that gets us defensive. Anyway, I'm glad you noticed the look of the gold stuff. "Ornate" is exactly the look I was trying for. Wherever possible, I'm attempting to make the gold tools all have thin, curved pieces, to try to promote a sense of frailty (to reflect the way they're only as strong as wood). In my mind, anything made out of gold is lavish and showy - it's something a rich person would hang over a fireplace, not something a commoner would be using daily.
Diamond has its own aesthetic, too. As you've probably noticed, I've been trying to give everything with diamond a slanted, parallelogram-based look, combined with unusual silhouettes. I've also been trying to make it thicker than gold, in general, to suggest sturdiness.
The gold tools look as amazing as the gold itself does. That's going to annoy me because they're going to completely lack functionality while looking that cool. :smile.gif:
I think I would make some gold tools just to decorate my inventory with them, all the tools look pretty great. The only one I find slightly odd is that diamond axe. I think it's just the metal part sticking out a bit much, making it look a little lop-sided or something. Everything else looks really great though, I would love to try this pack out, I'll be waiting.

I don't think the results of his poll on which version of the diamond pickaxe have been conclusive yet.
I still wish you were able to put more detail on those, but of course, the technical limitations...
I think they need to switch to 32x32 on player and tool textures. 'Twould look better. Nonetheless, you've done great with what you have, and they look awesome in the inventory.
Yeah, being able to use a higher res would be nice. On the other hand, it's kind of a fun limitation to work with - I've always found pixel artistry to be a unique, satisfying challenge. Not to mention, it forces the game to adopt an "Oldskool" style, which usually isn't a bad thing at all.
Here are the new inventory icons for my cloth, iron, and gold armors:
I still have to figure out how I want the diamond armor to look. Armor textures, like a player skin, only give you pretty much 8x8 pixels to work with for each face of a body part, which is going to make it very tough to utilize my diamond style.
After that, the last major thing to do, really, is to improve the pig. Then just color iron according to the votes, choose a wood weapon and a diamond pickaxe from the votes, do some final tweaking, and I'll make a release.
I *suggest* you reskin diamond to resemble adamantine. This obviously just regards personal taste, but I think adamantine would fit much nicer into the role of Minecraft's super-strong tools/armor material.
To emphasize how much I don't want to appear pushy, I will reiterate that this choice is yours to make and that I wouldn't want you to do it if you had any valid reason not to.
A.I., what do you mean by "adamantine"? According to the Wikipedia, that "refer[s] to any especially hard substance", especially diamond. Could you please clarify?
I'm going to stay neutral on the matter of sword or club, as a club makes more sence, but a sword looks so much better.
I don't think wood would make a good sword, but I figure you could probably sharpen it well enough to make a crude axe. Wooden Battleaxe is my vote.
