Late edit) In case anyone is wondering, I'm not going to be making any updates to TTP until everyone stops stealing it. All I want is to be asked for permission, and to be given credit for all my work. Is that so hard? Apparently so.
TTP is meant to give Minecraft a less colorful, more detailed style. Some players say that it's a "realistic" pack, which is a fair claim, but what I was actually going for was to recreate the feeling of some of the great old games, such as Thief, Die by the Sword, and System Shock.
EDIT) Please note, most of these screenshots are a little outdated, and as such, the current version looks even better!
In case you find TTP too dark and gritty, I've included a "lite" version, which makes everything brighter and more colorful, like normal Minecraft:
TTP improves nearly every texture in the game, including terrain, weather, inventory, and monsters.
Changelog
=========
2.5) - Added red ore, red "wires", red "switches", metal door, and lever
- Added red dust item
Looks good, although I must comment on the lots of sharp contrasts, like in the grass and soil. All those dark areas make all the blocks look like they are full of holes.
Things to note:
- Removed black pixels from dirt and grass (thanks for the tip, Duke 2.0)
- Glass is more transparent than default glass
- There's some coal in the cliff face to the left of the house
Any more suggestions, or should I just release it?
Yeah, I've improved the tiling of the wood and brick since I took that screenshot. I also lightened the edges of the stair tiles. As for the solid metal blocks... I'm still trying to decide what I want to do with them. At the moment, they're simply desaturated versions of the default ones (except iron, which I made to match the kind of dusty-rose color you see in iron ore), but I may do more with them (if I can decide what to do). Maybe bas-relief some kind of decorative pattern on them?
I'm thinking of redrawing all the armors, too. I can't stand the default ones...
Should I keep the wood segmented, or revert to MC-style "infinitely long planks" (as seen in the picture with the little brick house)?
I've replaced all the art with nature scenes. Also, I'm playing around with the GUI (making it so that it looks like wood or stone or something instead of just a big grey box), but have yet to see any really great results. This is what I have right now:
Segmented it is. Also, I've decided that I won't change the colored cloth tiles, because so many people use them for building Megaman and the like - I'm sure more people would be happy if I left those alone than if I changed them.
If I were to make a stone-themed GUI, it may look something like this:
Guess I'll be making the stone GUI, then. Aright, time for more pics...
This is the kind of picture I've used for the painting art. As you can see, I do some quick, freehand touching-up before shrinking them down, so that certain details won't be lost (in this case, the green of the grass and treetop, and the tree trunk).
I've been experimenting with adding designs to the "precious" blocks. I mean, the way I see it, anyone who uses 9 iron, gold, or diamond just so they can build with it is obviously rich. So wouldn't a decadent block fit that best?
I'm going to end up changing the items, too. Here you can see a test of all the new "swords" (granted, two are clubs and two are battleaxes), drawn by my good friend Ensayia.
Please don't feel that any of these pictures show finished content. In fact, I usually go make improvements right after taking each screenshot.
Okay, love the gold block. You could bump up the silverness of the iron in photoshop a bit, though. Other than that, I love this entire texture pack so far.
Hm... I like that idea, r4c7! What would you suggest I do for the regular inventory screen, then?
As for the color of the iron, it's a little problematic... The color of real iron ranges from black, to grey, to a brownish color. The problem with that is, drawing it any of those colors would make it nigh-impossible to see in iron ore, since rock is the same color. Regular Minecraft solved this by making iron ore a dusty rose color. However, that means that the iron suddenly changes color when it's smelted and/or turned into items. Thus far, I've been making everything iron match the color of iron ore. But as you guys pointed out, it doesn't look so great.
So what should I do? Keep iron color consistent (but the wrong color); do as MC does and change its color when you smelt it (sacrificing consistency); or change the color of iron ore to a real iron color (but make it hard to distinguish from rock)?
Lastly, I'd feel bad if I didn't post some kind of update, so I'll give you guys a minute-and-a-half long video (5MB) of me drawing the new zombie skin (played at high speed). Sorry the video's quality drops so bad when I start shading, but eh, free software, you know?

Afaik you can't change the color of water or lava at the moment.

Nice work so far. I also think you should make the solid iron blocks more ironish in color, or just drain all/some saturation.

Very, very nice. :biggrin.gif:
