So I've been working on a rather... heavy make-over of Minecraft, not having a tile untouched.
The only thing is, the water and lava tile doesn't change.
I've used search, but have only noticed that the search function isn't very accurate with 2 terms. :/
Is it possible to change these tiles? I mean, the animation is fairly graphic, meaning you either need a very intense script to change it or it's just an .gif animation or something like that.
Could someone tell me where to find this or at least tell me that it's not possible with added proof?
Unfortunately, you cant skin water or lava.
The water and lava animation lies with minecraft sourcecode, and that is compiled. You cannot decompile it or edit things in it.

95% of teens would jump off a building if facebook or myspace got hacked.
Who am I?
I am the other 5% that is laughing.
Does Notch have any known plans of making this already decompiled like most of the graphics?
And if not, is there a slight possibility of making the water NOT have animation but a still tile instead?
This being very unlikely, but maybe possible

actually notch is planning to make new animations for water, not remove them. but no, you can't edit the ACTUAL tiles. (though you can edit the image for the water on the outside of the map)

Would you dare to meet the gaze of the basilisk, or face the flames as the phoenix burns?
I don't understand how java code creates animated textures. Does it declare each pixels color with that color-code and then what it changes to for animation? Seems like a .gif or images would be easier for the game but maybe it isn't.
I'm honestly thinking that perhaps it consists of just 2 tiles which scroll over each other while one keeps switching transparency, making it look animated. Heck, it could be one texture that is rotated.
This is what I hope anyway.
