In the recent map format change to .mclevel, I have lost the ability to load .mine maps. Duh. Everyone has.
HOWEVER... I would still like to be able to load those. I've tried the map converter tool, the map editor for NBT, and still have had no luck.
I started with a flatgrass from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?nz2zjtz22xj. I converted it into .mclevel. I tried loading in in Minecraft. Nothing happens. It simply goes from the choose file dialogue box back to the menu with no change. I've tried this in both the browser and WoM client. Nothing.
If someone could explain step by step how to do this, I hopefully can see what I've done wrong. An alternative would be to just post a .mclevel flatgrass (it was a 512x512x256). Or have one in a save slot that I can use. I'm not overly great at the technical aspects of the map file, so keep it simple please.
EDIT: I think one of my problems is a fundamental misunderstanding... Is the .mclevel used for already established creative or does .mine still rule?
So, if .dat/.mine are still the correct maps, then how does the save get spontaneously corrupted? The flatgrass was a perfectly fine map that I've used several times, but only on my biggest project does the save just stop working -.- Ideas?
Indeed .dat and .mine are not the same, but they do share common data on blocks.
However, the .mclevel only works for indev version, if you do not have premium account or did not try load map with indev version it would just return to menu.
I've simply decided that whatever file I had was unsalvageable (as I probably made it) and that I should start over. I'm still having the saving game problem though, where it spontaneously corrupts my map.
Just use the NBT tools to convert a .mine map to a .mclevel map. After that's done, use the other tool to convert the map back from a .mclevel map to a .dat map. After that's done, you should be able to run it on your server.
I'm not trying to run it on a server, I was trying to get it to work correctly in singleplayer. Each time I want to save it, I save to an online slot, through MC's file save, and through client dump. The online never works on maps I've uploaded and let sit there a period of time. If I upload a map, instantly save it, and reload, then I can load it fine.
