1. I run ZOMG.exe.
2. I choose all the thing like how many trees and such.
3. I wait for it to finish generating.
4. It creates a level file with no extension.

Yeah. So I downloaded 7zip and did all the things in the tutorial. After 7zip finishes compressing to .gz it wants me to send an email. And if I close the email thing it cancels the compression.
You can pretty much ignore the limits on Messiness and Distortion. xD
If you think of the terrain generation like a growing plant, the Messiness is growth resistance, with a smaller number making it harder to grow, and Distortion is the growth potential of the land. Low Messiness numbers make the land have to get thicker and stronger before it can go anywhere and high Distortion numbers make the land grow longer and harder.

Well, yeah, I'm sure my analogy is nothing like the actual process going on. I just mean that the way it works out in the end product seems like that.

So, it it fake? Or people just don't change the default seed?
No its not fake. From what I can tell, the first release would cycle through a few seed numbers instead of randomly generating one.
If I'm not mistaken it now generates a new random 6 digit seed number every time you run it. Or you can enter your own number, like I did above.

Will we ever see an update to this awesome generator?
One minute I can use a seed and generate a map. I go back, try to generate a new map using the same seed and it doesn't work due to the NullPointerException.
:EDIT: I actually figured out how to get this working PERFECTLY throwing absolutely no errors whatsoever. The solution is so simple I don't know why I didn't think of it before. Set EVERYTHING to 0 except for Map Size, Messiness, Distortion, Scale, and Seed.
This dosent work. I make a map, rename it to server_level, put it in server_level.dat, put it in my server folder, start server, go to my server, and its a auto-generated map. Not the one I made. I have followed the tutorial EXACLTY and it still does it. HELP ME

zip it into gzip format using 7zip using standard gzip options. just name the archive you're making server_level.dat
