I'm finding the World Machine generated maps to be a lot of fun but need trees to seem realistic. I found a work-around. put the saplings everywhere you want to build a forest, and set your spawn on a floating block high enough so you can see most of the map. Then load it in survival, and wait a while while the trees pop up. (Make sure to back up before doing anything, mobs could hurt stuff)

That's actually a good idea.

How do you save a terrain from Terragen? It's in black and white, and in top view, but I don't know how.
I just save the render, which I know, I'm doing wrong.
You import it as a height map into Omen. But World Machine seems to be able to do a better job at generating and editing terrain.

Well now that trees grow from saplings in creative too, this is unnecessary.
Now that notch is removing that functionality, it is no longer unnecessary.

That's what I'm saying, how do you save a terrain render thing?
I know how to import it, just I don't know how to save it the terrain from top view like you guys.
I have never used Terragen, I can't help you there.
When you are in Omen, create a blank map (this is important) with the same x and z dimensions of your heightmap. After it has loaded a blank map (nothing but air), import your heightmap. Save as "server_level.dat" in your Minecraft server directory.
i've been trying to figure out this damn program (world2map/world generator..whatever) and, while its nifty, i have one problem with it...or rather, with OMEN.
When i load my png from WG to omen..my map is..well..SMALL. The height is a measly 65 and its 256x256. I increase the height and when i load the damn map in minecraft theres those WALLS surrounding my map.
Now if i increase and height AND depth (say by 256 each) then it's fine..but i have a giant ass open space under where my map originally "ended". I dont want to have that much depth, i want more height, NOT depth and not BOTH cause that just makes things run slow as hell. It's driving me nuts and i'm finding all of it a waste of time since i can't seem to get it to make what i want.. :sleep.gif:;
Okay guys, i can't seem to make this work, i tried World Machine its easy to make a Png file but this is it.
I can't set the xyz stuff in the "World Extents and resolution" box on the top, i try to set it for example 124x210 however it just resets to its original value if not i take exact the same match: 100x100 for example.
1) I generate a map
2) Trying to set hight and all that.
3) Build the map
4) Export the hightmap
5) Open it in omen the hightmap
6) load into the server.
this is what i do, and i have no idea how to make it fit exactly.
at the moment, i can see out of the world, hole emptyness, the sky are way to low over the ground and three water goes too high.
1. Dimensions must be a power of 2 eg 64, 128, 256, 512
2. You define the map height with Omen. In the height map image, white is the highest point and black is the lowest
3. You can change the ground height stuff using an image editing program more advanced than mspaint. Otherwise, manually adjust the ground height in World Machine so that the shore line is halfway between the lowest and highest point.

Make sure you don't have a custom resolution selected. I meant to say the map dimensions of Minecraft maps must be powers of two to be functional.
When you make a new map in Omen, you can change the dimensions of the blank map. The dimensions of the blank map should match the dimensions of the height map, except for the height, which you define.
If you're using the advanced fractal perlin generator, you can adjust the elevation center and steepness

How do i fix it so you can't see out on the map all the gray/black stuff.
and how do i take away some of the water.
I still don't understand what to do in OMEN completely so if you could make me a step by step guide over everything i would give you giant bearhug and thousand thanks :biggrin.gif:

I time my responses poorly.
OK so, you got your map:
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e214/NOFXer08/01.png
Now, click on the 'Export Terrain' button at the top:
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e214/NOFXer08/02.png
Click on 'Build World':
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e214/NOFXer08/03.png
When that is finished, click the 'OK' button:
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e214/NOFXer08/04.png
Now, click on the 'Modify' button:
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e214/NOFXer08/06.png
Click the button 'Set' and choose the destination you want for the heightmap. Then, select 'PNG' for the file type. Click 'OK':
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e214/NOFXer08/07.png
Select your world on the list and click 'Export Selected':

If you did everything correctly, you will see this message and the heightmap file will be saved to whatever location you chose:

http://1scripts.net/mc/mountainmap.dat
It has a bunch of short plateaus ("Jacob's Mountain Building" in earlier September if you ever played there.)
Also, for anyone that didn't notice I posted a World Machine data file for the 4-canyon map posted earlier here on the 20th.

What did you mean about omen? quite confusing and and how do i adjust it in world machine
