Firstly you're going to need:
WinRAR
Image Editing Program that supports Alpha Channels (Recommendations are Paint.NET and GIMP)
Got those? Good. Let's begin.
Start > Run
NOTE: THE BELOW IMAGE IS INCORRECT, PLEASE USE BACKSLASH ( \ )
Type the above
You should see something like this, for the purpose of this tutorial I will use Minecraft not Minecraft_creeper_test. Why? Because people will be more familiar with the sandbox game, even no premies. However, this tutorial will work for the other game.
Alternatively you can click Extract Here, though it's not recommended...
Drag whatever image you want to edit, for example. I will be editing the mob skin (not really, just pretend).
Remember to leave this window open, we will come back to it later.
Tada, the image is there!
Edit as you see fit...
Save your new image, then drag it back into the JAR.
Load up Minecraft* and you're good to go.
*If you look at the folder we went into at the start (%temp%\www.minecraft.net\) notice it says "www.", this is the specific part of the domain which can change, if you play the game on http://minecraft.net then you would need to edit the folder for that domain (minecraft.net). The data from each domain does NOT overlap.
yey, finally a tutorial for this, great work, but i think you should explain that the modificantions only show to you, not other players, new players may become confused, still, great tutorial =D

If they can't understand that a clientside change isn't visible to the people on the server, I don't think they deserve to even try doing this. Just a thought.

Java.exe might be running the background, you'll need to make sure it's not.

You just have to right click > 7zip > open archive
Anyone got a fix?
Never mind, it was because photshop was still open.
It's in terrain.png...
Thats cause i think you have photoshop with the file open or because minecraft is running. So yeah...

Like anything. Just to be safe. :biggrin.gif:

Did you make sure you went to the correct URL?
www.minecraft.net is completely different to minecraft.net, go to the one that corresponds to the folder containing the modded JAR.
