I need to listen for vanilla packets (Specifically SPacketSetSlot). I have gotten the Channel using the FMLNetworkEvent.ClientConnectedToServerEvent, however I'm not sure what to do after that. I will also need to send another vanilla packet back to the server using information from the packet the server sent.
The reason why I need to listen for packets is because I want my mod to be compatible with vanilla servers. and I need to do something when the player picks up an item. I cannot use EntityItemPickupEvent because it does not fire when the world is remote, and I will not check if the player's inventory has changed every tick because storing the player's inventory and updating it every tick is a waste of cycles when I can just use information from the vanilla packet.
