ExclamationMark had a great link, I did a quick peek at it, +1 to him or her and I have something to add. Structures like villages, stronghold and nether fortresses are very complex because of their size. This makes it so they have to be generated in sections as the chunks are made as oppose to a simple small thing like a tree. Not only to the sections need to be generated randomly, but nbt tags are also needed to be saved as the structure is partially generated. ExclamationMarks link is a great start for simple and only partially random structures like dungeons, jungle temples and witch huts. Trying to create your own complex struck like a village is quite an undertaking, but don't give up if that's what you want.

Don't hesitate to ask me a Forge Modding question. If you can create a thread for the question instead of a PM, so others can learn from it, and PM me the link so I can find it.
Adding a building or two to an existing village is not that hard though. I do this in Draco Animus. I even add a small 20 x 20 castle. You can also change how many villages appear and in what biomes they appear. There is a public domain mod that does this (it is called More Villages).
Yes, the link above was one of my tutorials, surprised it is still being passed around. It will still work with a little effort and a few tweaks due to no block id anymore. However as stated works great only for simple structures. A village on the other hand, no. Would require a lot of effort and would be more code than a class can handle. If you want to create a village you will need to replace the mapgen in minecraft using forge. However, if you want to add a village to the existing one, you will still need to replace mapgen, but the rest is where I am currently having some issues of my own, adding more than one village class is a bit of work. You will see when I post my request for help.
Hello, I've been googling a few things regarding minecraft structure generation and casually parachuted on this old thread.
Allow me to ask: how much work exactly would it be attempting to make villages and other major vanilla structures less frequent in a MC world? Been looking for something like this for AGES, found 0 results so far.
And no, Mo' Villages no longer works when it comes to that. Game completely ignores config alteration.
I've been looking at how to do structure generation, but I just haven't been able to find anything!
Does anyone know how you generate structures, (like a village)? I heard you have to make a schematic file or something, but I'm not sure.
Thank You!

Have a look at this. It's not really up to date, but it should work, if you remove all the block ids and fix some other things.
