I am currently having trouble having my custom rendered block actually render in the world, when the game is loaded you can see the rendered version of the block in your inventory but when placed in the world it is not rendered.
I don't know if it is connected in any way but the block wont even render in my inventory if the "textures" part of the item model file is missing, even though the texture still doesn't load. If you need to see any other file just ask
