I'm doing a bit of research for my self and some friends of mine regarding tutorials.
We are interested in knowing what tutorials are wanted for modding, and therefore we ask you guys the question, which tutorials do you wish to see made?
It would be interesting to discuss and hear your suggestions!
I've setup a database for tracking requests in an attempt to organize the requests and we decided to let anyone submit requests to the system as a test. If it get's spammed it will be taken down and only this post will be used for the request collection.
Just saw this and thought, well, we could really use one for loading and pasting schematics in game. Also for how to make proper schematics using mcedit. I have found a few and made a few myself that dont load properly. Also along with this should be custom structure rotation, though this should work either with schematics or just a normal world gen class.
We are also lacking a good chest loot generation tutorial, I know how to do this already, to a point anyhow, but have noticed others asking for how to do so.
Some decent tips for custom generation would be good too....like make a plant grow in a certain biome on certain blocks, or so many blocks away from a specific block, make blocks generate around a lava lake or water lake, and so on...

Here is a (propper list)
1. Tile Entity With Techne
2. Custom Mobs With Techne
1. What do you mean? Tile Entity is a way to process information and to store information, beyond what a block normaly can store.
2. This has already been covered by a lot of tutorials
Vswe for example shows how to create a model in techne, bring it into the game and animate it somewhat
5. What do you mean here? Do you mean replace vanilla GUI's with your own or? because the override word doesn't quite make sense for a programmer in that sentence, you override methods from a class you have extended
Do you mean creating your own GUI's? Vswe covers that in GREAT detail as well http://courses.vswe.se/
1. A tutorial/guide on what things work in single player mode that need to be changed when making your mod multiplayer-compatible. Just adding it here since you're collecting
2. An extension to the minecraftforge.wiki tutorial on packets, as in providing further examples of packets in action. I see all of these packet classes in vanilla minecraft, but many of them seem like they don't do anything. Go to /minecraft/network/NetHandler.java and you'll see what I mean. Maybe it's just me, but for some reason I have a really hard time with server/client (i.e. packet) communication...
This is already done and outdone by several mate!
Check Jimmy's tutorials on dimensions as well as Wuppy29's both can be found on the Tutorials section here
i tried to make my own dimension with Jimmys code. i have no errors but the game crashes when i try to open it. please check the crash report here http://www.minecraft.../#entry24099944
The tutorial works, I can confirm that as I have tested the code
The error is fixable I replied to your thread.
Happy bug hunt!
Just throwing this out there because I havent seen much on this but tutorials for redstone could be helpful. Like making custom redstone and how to make your blocks work with your custom redstone and things like that. I dont have anything really specific, but I havent seen a lot of tutorials for redstone out there unless I have just overlooked them.
Some detailed explanations of code. Also make some tutorials for Java basics, so we can use that to make other programs.
Any good class, or basic book for java will give you that. Mazetar also like to link users to a free class that is very helpful. Also DarkHax has a few on this forum, may be in the archive section though...
So far in the form there's been posted 24 requests.
8 of these are requests for tutorials already existing.
3 are about API related usage (BC/IC2).
4 are tutorials now in construction.
2 of the requests are way beyond my abilities at the moment, but I may end up doing them as I will have to learn it sooner or later anyways
The 7 remaining are different valid requests
There was also some 10+ invalid submissions, where the statements was so unclear that we where unable to decipher anything meaningful from it.
We have now started working on some new tutorials based upon these requests, and we are also going to improve the system for finding existing tutorials so we avoid confusions.
Please keep sending us tutorial requests at http://mazetar.com/mctuts/tutorialRequest.php
This helps us figure out what to work on next as well as what to suggest for other tutorial writers to work on

Any chance you could keep an updated list of the current requests on your page under the request form? Would be nice to see what's been requested, what's being worked on, etc.
I really like your method of tutorials, especially the ones you linked by The Grey Ghost - they explain so much without giving anything away. I do my best to emulate that style, but I still end up with lots of free code for people... Keep doing what you're doing. It's awesome.
Could you do one on how to add textures? Mine NEVER seem to work
There are plenty of them in existence. IF you can't get the ones on the forge wiki to work you are probably doing something wrong.
Create a new thread here on these forums and include the following details:
1. The full code of your registerIcons method. - Do use code tags please!
2. The Console output made by eclipse when running the mod from within eclipse. USE SPOILER and CODE tags please!
3. Write the path where your textures are located! like "assets/mazmods/textures/mytexture.png"
4. Do all of this in a NEW thread and I will (unless someone is faster than me) reply to it and resolve whatever the cause would be
As I've gotten a few requests for a Plant/crops tutorial for forge I'm gonna have to ask if you guys could please try to use google before you request a tutorial, thanks

A excellent plant/crops tutorial is found in the forge wiki's tutorial list. You can see it here:
