So, a while ago, back when I used to have an internet connection on my PC. I created a private modpack for Minecraft 1.7.10 using MultiMC with about 50/60 or so mods. And it works well enough for me to play. Of course there is the occasional bug you get but nothing I can't handle. Everything is up to my standard, and I've enjoyed playing it for the past year.
As of recently, I no longer have internet since I wasn't able to afford it anymore. My PC has been offline for about 7 months or so and I won't be getting internet back for possibly another couple of month. And my main question is, when I finally get internet back, will that effect my modpack's functionality in any way. I still have the modpack installed on my computer but since no longer having internet I haven't really played on it (which to be fair, I don't really know why since the only mods that require internet that I have installed is CloneCraft and WebDisplays). So I was wondering when I finally get internet back, will my modpack continue to start and work like it always has done? Or since being offline for a long period, would that've messed something up?
P.S I know this is question is very silly. Let's just say I've worked hard on this modpack and don't want it to mess up, just because of my inability to keep my internet.
Ah that's good to hear. I don't think any of my mods auto update, but there are a few (such as Hats, Metallurgy, MrCrayfish Furniture, Aether 2) that detect when a new update is available and therefore every time I start a new world, it spams my hotbar saying a new one is available (I don't really mind it though).
But I'm the type of person that never updates my mods as long as they work (well enough for me too play). I never update my forge and Minecraft versions as well. I'm the type of person that kinda likes to stick with everything the way it is since it works just fine, and would make no drastic changes to the modpack except for possibly adding/removing a few more mods when I get internet back. So I was wondering if I might run into any problems I might not have had before because of this?
P.S I also back up my modpack every single time before I add/remove a mod.
Ah I see. I've never tried to start up my modpack ever since being offline, so I don't know if it actually requires internet in order to work or not (I think I might've tried it once but I can't recall how it turned out, I remember starting it up and running around for a bit in creative mode but that's it, I never tested many of the mods). I know some mods I have don't work properly without internet (For example CloneCraft and the statues mod where it can detect another users skin, and Web Displays which is essentially a browser screen within minecraft (trying to turn it on without an internet connection can crash your game instantly)).
Also, may I ask when your internet is broken and can't start your modpacks, when you get back online, does your modpacks start up like normal? Or are there any extra steps in order to make them work again?
And another question I have is, do you ever update your mods for your modpacks and such? Just wondering if it was okay not to update mods.
I know there is modpacks on the Technic launcher such as Tekkit Classic that has been around ever since 1.2.5 and the newer Tekkit (1.6.4) and they still work to my knowledge, I don't know if they get actively updated though. I highly doubt Tekkit Classic gets updates now because it's that old. But even that still works to this day. So perhaps I've got nothing to worry about lol
I only update mods if the changes are relevant to me.
Some changes can be bug-fixes, added compatibility etc, so checking from time to time might pay off, but you dont have to change a winning team, right?
if updating requires a newer forge version, i tend to think twice, since some changes can break mods.
Typical case of try and error.
I'm currently recreating my 1.7.10 modpack in 1.12.2, since AdvancedRocketry and other good mods has been moved to 1.12, and many interesting features have been added, but that doesnt keep me from playing or making tweaks to my 1.7.10 pack. It's just 2 different packs at this point.
The changes to Vanilla are also a big reason, but not having ReactorCraft, LanteaCraft, Mariculture and IntegratedCircuits in 1.12 is pretty sad.
I see, I guess I should stop worrying about it then lol. Although I do have one final question (completely unrelated to my original post but thought id ask anyway).
Basically, when I get my internet back, I'm upgrading some parts on my PC soon to these specs, and am wondering if these would run my modpack?
PC Specs:
CPU: Intel Core I5 2500 3.3 GHz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050
RAM: 16GB (As of right now I have 5GB allocated to the modpack but I'm planning on increasing it just a little more when I add a few mods).
OS: Windows 8.1
HDD: Nearly 3TB Free
Internet: Sky Super Fast 59 Mb Average Download Speed. 9 Mb Average Upload Speed.
Mod List (Just the mods. I haven't included the compatibility mods that comes along with the mods since I can't remember how many/what types they where, let's just say on average there was 1 compatibility mod per actual mod if that makes sense):
Aether 2
Aquaculture
Atum: Journey Into the Sands
Better FPS
CandyCraft
CloneCraft
ComputerCraft
Copious Dogs
Elemental Creepers
Flans Mods
Flans Modern Warfare Pack
Flans WW2 Pack
Flans Ye Olde Pack
Gems+
Hats
Iron Chest
Ice Cream Creepers
Lumy Skin Patch
Malisis Doors
Metallurgy 3
Mo Golems
Mr Crayfish Furniture
Not Enough Items
Project Fruit
Project E
Psychedelicraft
Q-Craft
Rei's Mini Map
Sports Mod
Statues Mod
TrainCraft
Tube Transportation
Twilight Forest
Vending Machine
Web Displays
These are the mods that I had before upgrading my PC and even then it worked relatively fine (despite my specs not being as good as what I've mentioned above). I'm also thinking about adding these mods when I get my internet back.
Here are a few:
Pam's HarvestCraft
Fast Food Mod
Ancient Tree Mod
Lovely Robots Mod
Modular PowerSuits
Teletubbies
PlasmaCraft
Better Furnaces
Transport Telepads
Rival Rebels
Contracts Mod
Mob Talker
Project E/Aether 2 add on (coin mill) (A mod that adds a machine where you can transfer Aether coins into Alchemical Coal and vise versa).
As well as a custom mod I created myself using MCreator, where its just adds a couple new ores and food items.
P.S Thanks for all the replies as of recently, it has really helped and sorry for this post to be ridiculously long
Yes, I understand. I don't use shaders for my modpacks considering how demanding they are. But I keep all my original settings on there highest apart from my render distance which I keep up to 10 Chunks and keep my FPS limit to unlimited. For modpacks I also keep the Vanilla texture pack only.
I used to have lag spikes (espically in the Nether, even though I still do get them a little bit but not as much) but that's when I found out about allocating RAM. Hence now why I have 5GB allocated instead of 1GB. It helped quite a lot.
And there was also a bug I encountered where if you was higher than Y=190 above an Ocean biome, my FPS instantly drops to a single figure and forces me to disconnect because of the masses amounts of squid spawning and despawning (this also happens in vanilla 1.7.10 for me). Having the hats mod installed just makes the issue worse. Although I don't mind this at all since it also happens in Vanilla and when am I ever gonna be that high above an Ocean biome unless I was flying a plane or using a flying ring/suit.
Anywho thanks again for the replies, it has helped me a lot although I might end up asking another question soon lol
I'm not at all suprised you had lag spikes with only 1Gb allocated when playing modded.
Concerning squids, i had a bug/glitch where squids would spawn in small ponds below plains (3-5 blocks down), get suffocated because of a mod that made it possible to walk up natural terrain without jumping, and their drops would then appear on top of the grass, giving the impession that sqiuds had spawned in the air and dropped to their deaths.

It shouldn't break anything, since no mods (to my knowledge) auto update.
Dont update your forge version and it should work just fine.
Worst case, you can just make backup of your entire modpack before reconnecting.
Ah that's good to hear. I very much doubt it, but i cant guarantee it either.
I've never encountered such a thing, nor have i heard of it, if anything my modpacks fail to start if my internet connection is broken.

Im pretty sure it should run without a problem.
I have a 10+year old computer:
IntelCore 2 Quad CPU Q9400 2.66GHz (running at 3.2GHz)
8Gb ram 1600MHz
Geforce GTS 450 (4Gb Vram)
running minecraft from an HDD
and i can run this humongous modpack:
dungeons-dragons-and-space-shuttles
although with stuttering, since i "only" have 8Gb ram, and am using my SSD as a buffer.
so your computer should handle it with ease.
if you are launching the modpack from an SSD, and the difference in access and writing speed should be noticable.
Having a higher render distance and/or using shaders will obviously be taxing. duh...
