I've been making the modpack of my dreams for a while, but I want to make sure something like it doesn't already exist before I go to all the trouble. I've tried searching and found nothing, but searching through modpacks is like wading through a bog (unlike browsing mods, which is like being a kid in a candy store).
I was recommended SevTech:Ages, but I found it to be a big disappointment. And all the packs I've found by searching "realism" are using a very loose definition of the word.
The working title for my pack is "Historia". The theme is working through the ages of humankind, starting in the stone age. Crafting recipes are much more realistic, and require the amount of materials that you'd actually expect. All magical and supernatural stuff is removed, including zombies and creepers. Instead of being assaulted by obnoxious undead every night, the dangers you face include apex predators like tigers and sharks, and the elements (for example, from the Tough as Nails, and Weather2 mod), but for the most part it's a much more peaceful world. All silly and nonsensical stuff is gone too, or at least everything I can find a way to remove. For example, breaking logs with your fist. And yes, of course, it's not possible to make a 100% realistic modpack in this game made out of blocks, but I want to get as close as possible. For me, that would be the most fun way to play the game.
So, the question is: Does anything like this already exist? Anything even approaching it? I've been unable to find anything, and considering how much work it is to make, that's not very surprising. But maybe some of you know of some hidden gem that has evaded me.
In case anyone's interested in my progress with Historia, I've put many days and hours into it already, but I'm still barely getting started. I've done the recipes for turning plant fibers into string, twine, rope, and straw (of various kinds), and have started on the early wood recipes. The recipes form a complex web, because I want the player to feel like they have a lot of options with whatever resources they have (I really hate when progression in a modpack is gated behind one rare resource that I have to go to another biome to find, or some other tedious thing). Since I'm replacing almost every single recipe of the vanilla game and every mod, it's a huge job. And that's just the recipes. I might release it if I get the stone age phase completed, but right now it's not playable. Recipes aren't complete, biome generation and mob spawning aren't set up properly, and some configs aren't tuned. Good modpacks aren't easy to make. The framerate is decent though, which is more than I can say for some of my other modpack making attempts.
Anyway, point is: Are there any modpacks that are like what I described? What's the most realistic modpack you know of?
