FTB Pack Code: cacophonyinc
Plug that pack code into the FTB launcher and click Launch. It's as simple as that! If this is new to you, see this album for more details: http://imgur.com/a/RfgxT.
If you're not a fan of FTB, here's the alternative way to do it.
*Please add JourneyMap to this after downloading -- it's balanced with that in mind. We don't have permission to distribute that when distributing the pack this way outside of a Launcher, or we would have added it ourselves.
Assumes you have played 1.7.10 at least once through the official Minecraft launcher.
Download and install Forge 10.13.4.1558 from the official site, if you haven't already.
Download the client version of the modpack above.
Unzip the contents somewhere.
Open up the official Minecraft launcher.
Create a new profile.
Under "Use version", select release 1.7.10-Forge-10.13.4.1558-1.7.10.
Check the box next to "Game Directory", and enter in the full path to where you unzipped the contents from step 3.
(optional, system-dependent): Check the box next to "JVM Arguments", and enter in (no quotes): "-Xmx3G -Xms3G -XX:ParallelGCThreads=3 -XX:+UseParallelGC -Xnoclassgc -XX:+UseAdaptiveGCBoundary -XX:SurvivorRatio=16 -XX:+UseNUMA -Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true".
The exact numbers to use for the bolded parts depend on how much RAM your system has available. I personally think 3 GB is ideal for this pack, but if I had less than 6 GB of total system RAM, I would lower it to 2G or even lower.
Click "Play" and enjoy!
Announcement
skidznet and airbreather (a.k.a. AiryBreath on MCF and in-game) are proud to announce the initial public release of our new 1.7.10 modpack: Cacophony, Inc. Some stats: HQM, about 300 story-driven (but technically optional) quests, >700 unique reward bags, >75 custom-built ruins, >75 mods, no fixed seed (each map is procedurally generated). The gameplay experience rewards the player for exploring the randomly-generated world. It’s balanced for a small number of players (about 2 or so; solo play is possible, just maybe a little overwhelming).
The story so far: you’re the new intern for a strange company called “Cacophony Inc.” All of the other employees of the company are disembodied voices that can only interact with your world through your quest book. You were hired as part of the company’s new “diversity” initiative. Your boss is the CEO, a long-winded fellow known as Voice of Arrogance. You’re not quite sure what your job is supposed to be… and neither is he. All you know is that they promised to feed you if you “contribute to the bottom line”. This world is pretty harsh, so you think it might be worth it to just play along…
As of this initial release, there are 293 quests in the quest book, starting from “Part 1: Punch Trees” and covering a broad range of various mods. There are initially 7 quest sets, 6 of which have 4 daily quests each that unlock as you complete various milestones within the quest sets.
As you progress through the quests, it won’t be long before you meet the other major employees who work for the company: each with a quirky personality of their own.
"Gotchas"
Make sure that, on every new world you create, you choose "Biomes O' Plenty" for the World Type. If you don't, then your world will be a lot more bland.
There's a very early quest that wants you to make a Flint Pickaxe Head, then wants you to mine up Cobblestone. Make sure to open your quest book after you make the Flint Pickaxe Head but before you use it to make a pickaxe, otherwise it might not detect for you.
I'd highly recommend running a server and connecting the client to that, for performance reasons. If you don't, then you may want to at least add FastCraft to the world. I would not recommend OptiFine -- we used to use it religiously during development because it gave us a really nice speed boost with "Multi-Core" chunk loading, but it caused just so many rendering issues with Chisel and Tinkers' Construct that really detract from the game.

Mod List and Thanks
Special thanks to LightArchon for his work on the logo (currently, it just shows up in the HQM quest book in-game... we're working on that).
No modpack announcement is complete without a full list of mods included. We want to thank each and every one of the authors of the included mods. Without the amazing amount of effort you guys put into developing your creations, this would be a REALLY short post. Yeah, OK, many (most?) of you guys require that we give credit like this in order to be able to legally use your mods, but still, you guys are the superstars. We tried to list all the authors including original authors if there’s a hand-off that happened, but we may have missed some original authors (especially if there were multiple hand-offs involved). Let us know if someone deserves credit who isn’t credited here. Framework / API / helper mods (based on airbreather’s quick glance at the JAR files) are listed at the bottom arbitrarily; otherwise, mods are all listed alphabetically by JAR file name.
Team CoFH says (http://teamcofh.com/about) that the definition of who is and who isn’t on the team is vague. Right now, the team is King Lemming, Cynycal, Zeldo, skyboy026, and RWTema.
1.0.1: before you ask, 1.0.1 was an internal release... changes from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1 are just included in 1.0.2.
1.0.2: removed Rideable Spiders Mod to appease some folks who aren't as gung-ho about less-than-ideally-explicit modpack permissions, fixed a broken potion reward from a quest, fixed the issue where Sand was smelting into Quicksand (it was supposed to be the other way around), stopping artifacts from being able to have the food saturation buff, and making many improvements to ruins.

As of 1.0.2, we've got a pack code on the FTB Launcher now! So I can put the hard-to-use instructions in a spoiler and make the easy stuff in big letters.

I've been playing this modpack for days now and it's progression is legit. Love the custom quests and balance.
