Between all the different mods I could choose from and all the different crap I can download, I really have a problem. I'm not a very organizational person at all and I have no idea what mods go with what versions of the game. So to break this barrier I'm going to nominate you as my source of help. I have no expirience in the modding world but one day I was like "Minecraft is really boring, maybe I should add mods." So yes, we're doing this.
For my personal mod pack, I don't care what it has as long as it adds items to the game and furniture, as well as-There are prefixes you know...
Basically, if you get all your mods from a reputable source like http://www.curse.com/mc-mods/minecraft (or a mod's actual website, like http://www.bibliocraftmod.com/ for example), you should be able to find pretty easily what version of Minecraft the mod is for. Depending on what you want the modpack to do, you're probably best off at the moment going for 1.7.10 mods. As long as you make sure all the mods are compatible with 1.7.10, you get any necessary core mods, and you make sure you have the right version of Forge, it should all work (in theory). Yes, there will probably be some minor bugs, but they shouldn't be too game-breaking and someone with a bit more knowledge than myself might be able to help you work them out.
Mod selection really depends on you. Let's take biomes for an example. Biomes O' Plenty adds 80+ biomes to Overworld and several to the Nether. It all depends on what you want.

Yeah, sorry. (not sorry)
Any help would be appreciated.

You should look into the new Curse Minecraft Mod Pack thing. Its really easy to use, one app you can search, download, and play so many mods.
Bellow is a video on how it works and stuff. Very good.
