Look for patches of poor joes (flowers), and dig there. I dig down in a 5x5 spiral and pretty reliably hit the ore. Iron veins are big. The guides say copper spawns at the same level as iron but in practice i have only been finding it down at bedrock. Honestly, coal is the most obnoxious thing to find in rev2. No surface indicator and the seams are really sparse instead of being a continuous vein.
2 things for haggle:(rev|2 obviously)
Every time i take iron out of a furnace I get the achievement fireworks. While I enjoy feeling special, it does get irritating after a while.
How is oil refining supposed to work? The other refineries are disabled and say to use the IE one, but the IE one requires me to already have rocket fuel in order to make regular fuel?
Excuse me, is it intended that the Forestry backpacks don't seem to hold anything (Rev|2)? (excluding a few exceptions, like the ammo bag, or the diggers backpack holding granite) For example, the diggers backpack does not hold cobblestone, the miners backpack does not seem to hold anything. The foresters backpack seems to work alright though.
All three of these issues are addressed in the upcoming update.
Two worlds and one very large excavation pit later (under a patch of about 5 poor joes) and I still haven't found any iron. About to give up on this pack for now. :-/

Try running /cogEnableDebugging
Cheats need to be enabled. This will show you the ore wireframes and where it was expected to be generated. Iron is a brown color.
You can turn it off with '/cogEnableDebugging false'
Thanks for the tip Haggle. I was just coming back now to mention that after about another hour of work I finally found some iron. It was quite far from the original poor joes I found, but it's a good sized vein, so I can actually start playing the pack now. Whooo!
Any suggestions about what to do with my 1st few pieces of iron? I don't want to waste these bad boys!

Complete the HQM quests in the first chapter....you'll end up with some surplus iron and machines.
Then, rush a RotaryCraft grinder and related machines. A steam engine is the easiest, but you'll have to find a water supply solution. Either a railcraft water tank, or a large agricraft water tank multiblock. The steam engine doesn't use water that fast, so just build the tank big enough to give you a good buffer (50 or 100 buckets is good) and break it's heat source before it runs out (in wet biomes, it shouldn't).
Running 4x raw ore through the blast furnace (to make regular ore), then running that ore through the grinder will yield you 4:3 raw ore to ingots, which is an incredible increase in output (considering you get 8/9 raw ore to 1 ingot at the start). There's more machines you can build, eventually netting you as much as 1:3 raw ore to ingots. Fortune III and V will net you even more raw ore per block.
Don't neglect to make sluices -- they're really cheap and the ore in the sluice doesn't despawn. They also don't reduce the ore in the chunk (they use a virtual vein). So spam a few for free resources, as long as your sand and gravel hold out.
All three of these issues are addressed in the upcoming update.
Would there be a fix in there for Extra Bees not showing up in the NEI listing? You can find them in the crafting recipes for Gendustry's Mutatron but you have to know what forestry bee to start with that will eventually get you there.
Or would that be related to Extra Bees not being updated for quite a while?
Sorry, these are for Revolution|1 if an update is going to be forth coming for that pack. If not, no big deal.
I have a question in Revolution|1. Is AE supposed to accept RF power? I know in the mod changes it says it costs 4 times as much to run it under RF but running it off RoC shaft power makes it cost an even amount.
The admin on the server I'm on has tried to run RF power into the Energy Acceptor but it doesn't seem to accept it.

Should work just fine with RF. It should go straight into the Energy Acceptor.

If you're on 1.3.2.0, you should have the fixed recipes for bees. Maybe try a fresh reinstall of the pack?

After a bit of trial and error, we managed to get it working. It turns out that Electricraft's RF cable does not connect to either the Energy Acceptor nor the ME Controller. We had to splice in a piece of Ender IO energy conduit between them to get it working.

I am on 1.3.2.0 but I haven't tried a fresh install yet. I'll see if I can swing that tonight to see if it fixes the problem. The missing Forestry Farm Blocks showed up without a fresh install so I figured that this was a new/separate issue.
Update: I reinstalled the pack over my existing install (by just picking reinstall from the launcher) and the Extra Bees items show up but not the drones/princesses/queens. They are all registered with Forestry so they should show up under there but they do not. Is anyone else seeing this issue?
hey what mod is causing the people talking outside of my game to appear? didn't appear when i added none of the extras the first time i played so i added all of them just want to know which one to turn off.

Great mod pack btw
EiraIRC is what controls that. Alternatively, you can also press 'T' to open up the chat window, the click the Options button in the top right corner. From there you can disconnect the mod from the chat server. This way, it's off and you won't see anyone talking, but you can always reconnect it if you ever have a pack question.
I can not get rid of that annoying message that says hold control to remove message. I used to be able to, but ever since i updated, my mouse has been hidden and it won't show up. Can i turn this thing off?

Assuming you're on REV|2, you can solve it by adding the -XX:+UseG1GC argument to your Java parameters. If you're on the original Revolution and it's complaining about the update to Reika's mods, there's some steps further down in this issue to work around it: https://github.com/ReikaKalseki/Reika_Mods_Issues/issues/317
Not sure if this is related, but does anyone know the shaders that are used in in the pictures that scroll by on the start screen? I would really like to try out the pack with it on, I think it would look beautiful!

I searched for info on Rockhounding mod in this thread since I was trying to figure out what this mod offered besides a large number of ores. It seems that the more interesting aspects of this mod has been disabled (chemistry and gemology) leaving the annoying aspect of a hundred different ores that I have to fight with while mining.
I was really trying to leave the pack as it was developed, but I'm already itching to disable mods or change configs so before I either enable chemistry and gemology or remove the mod entirely, is there something I'm missing about it's implementation that I'm missing? To be fair, I'm not the sort that finds value in the variation of blocks interesting.
At the moment, it is used solely for decorative purposes. That may change in a future patch.

I'm afraid none of these really fixed the issue for the Original. Revolution 2 still works fine at least (and even if not, i would b unable to do that as i use a mac). I'll just have to stop playing the original Revolution until another update. Thank you for the help anyway.

Hi Haggle/everyone
Really enjoying the pack!
Any plans for more HQM quests? If so any eta?
Thanks!

I use the shaders mod: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/1286604-shaders-mod-updated-by-karyonix
Typically with Kuda, Sildurs, and SEUS. Occasionally chocopix.
