If you know anything about Minecraft's History, you will surely know about how wacky the game's earlier builds can be. From crazy terrain, lack of hunger, to finite worlds, there are so many different directions Notch (the sole developer at the time of many of these) could have taken.
Introducing: Legacy+
The Legacy+ Project is something I have been working on since late 2021. It is a series of mods that explores what the game we all love could have been, had Notch taken a different approach with his game design philosophy during early stages of development. It consists of one mod for every major phase of the game's development.
The Mods:
The Original Trilogy (Total Conversion, MASSIVE mods that overhaul the entire game)
Each mod takes its base version and aims to expand on it with new features and quality-of-life improvements, whilst retaining what made the original version great in the first place. Some mods are bigger in scope than others, in particular the first three, as I personally view those versions as a blank canvas, that could have gone in a development path completely different from the one Notch went for. The others are more "minimalist", which retain the core experience of their base version as much as possible, due to how well-established and "complete" said versions feel out of the box.
For more information on each mod, I will be making separate threads on this forum about each one, and linking them to this main thread. This may take some time, as although 4 of the mods are already completed, and one is in active development, there is a lot to go through with each one. So stay tuned for more, and if you wanna go in blind...
I'm interested! Where can I download these??
You can find the downloads for the three "main" mods in the official website for the project: https://legacy-plus.dejvoss.cz/
The installation process is pretty much the same for all the mods. The easiest way is to use MultiMC (or any of its forks, such as Prism):
Create a new empty instance (this depends on the mod you want to play. For Classic+, use c0.0.13a. For Indev+, use inf-20100618. For Alpha Recrafted, use Alpha 1.1.2_01) - NOTE: For Infdev+, all you have to do is import the MultiMC instance zip file to MultiMC directly and you should be good to go!
Right-click the instance and choose "Edit instance"
Under the "Version" tab, click "Add to jar"
Select the jar file for the mod you downloaded.
In the instance settings, add the following to "Java/JVM Arguments":
-Djava.util.Arrays.useLegacyMergeSort=true
Although it might be possible to play the mods on other launchers, this has not been tested, nor is it recommended. I know for a fact Infdev+ won't work on launchers such as Betacraft, that rely on running the game in applet mode, as I removed applet support for that particular mod.
Credit Where Credit is Due
I couldn't have done some of these projects (In particular Indev+ and Infdev+), without the help of some other talented modders and artists in the community. Below is a full list of contributors, and what they each brought to the project:
Strultz - Texture Pack support for Classic+, Infdev+ base netcode
MrLordSith - Creator of Indev MP, allowed usage of his netcode as the base for Indev+ netcode
GenericPnPMonitor - Assistance with Indev+ netcode and some backend in Infdev+, including the custom build solution
Jonkadelic - Creator and lead dev of BTA, help with seasonal textures for Indev+ and the Photo Mode implementation in Infdev+
icanttellyou - GenLayer backend for Infdev+
na_th_an - Structure system used in Infdev+
mzov4J (Jen) - Plenty of art assets for Infdev+ (3D mob models and 2D texture work)
Soybean_56 - Original Soundtrack for Indev+ (music discs) and Infdev+ (music discs and background tracks for the dimensions)
NostalgiaModder (Rem_X) - Art assets for Indev+ and Infdev+
Nitpick - Art assets for Indev+ and Infdev+
RyPieEye - Textures and models for Infdev+
WarriorAlexOne - Textures and models for Infdev+
BlueStaggo - Additional code for some terrain features for Infdev+ (including noise-based cave generation), better lighting engine for Indev+
Crackers106 - Programmer Art+ assets
Special Thanks
Psychedelicon - Inspiration for the Indev+ portal system
DEJVOSS - For hosting the website and mods on his launcher
Moresteck - Additional help with skins proxy
Matt - Testing
Mirajaded - Testing
Charmareian - Testing & Game Balance
Luca_Underlimit - Testing & Game Balance
Dedede - Penguin model
Paul Spooner - Original Forester & Castle scripts (ported from Python to Java)
Spottedstar - Starlight lighting engine
TheMasterCaver - General advise and sharing his endless knowledge about the codebase's various quirks.
Notch and Mojang - For creating the game to begin with
Freesound.org - Source of most of the custom mob sounds.
Apparently I had just spent over an hour writing the Infdev+ thread just to have it automatically marked as spam...
I hope a moderator can see this and unmark it as spam. If not, I simply won't bother with that. The reason I wanted to make these separate threads was due to how massive these mods are, and it just so happens Indev and Infdev share similar names, which is what i believe triggered the spam filter.
Would appreciate it if this was resolved, otherwise I simply won't be able to make the Infdev+ thread, which is a shame as that mod is the biggest and most interesting. I also don't feel like wasting another hour of my life writing so much just to have it marked as auto spam again...
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I am working on a total conversion mod for each development phase of Minecraft!
This is a common issue for relatively new users with few posts; you can try reporting the post as not spam or make a post about this in the Forum Discussion & Info section or messaging a moderator (note that the one who made the linked post is no longer active):
"But the biggest problem is with discord, is that it isn't indexed on the web. This means even if you figure out the right keywords to use in your browser for what you want, (Unlike if its on the minecraft or ftb forums) if the answer is only on discord, you will never find it. (and if anything happens to the server, everything dissapears, out of the reach of the wayback machine)."
(and the lifetime of media on Discord seems to be only a few days given how often I've seen somebody post something from there only for it to disappear. Either that, or they don't let you make persistent public links; all the privacy everybody wants these days annoys me to no end; people constantly ask me about how I did something, my mods, etc; well, if they did so on a public forum and not private messages then maybe they could find my old posts and I wouldn't need to keep rewriting the same stuff over and over, or I could just give them a link to a post I made before (which is where a lot of what I post came from, I just Google my username and relevant keywords. Not as easy though when it comes to PMs which may no longer exist or be easily searchable). Not to mention that, at least on Reddit, the chatbox is microscopic and is hardly readable for sentences longer than a few words)
Thank you for the insight, I did not realise these were discord links. Using them for sharing media is a horrible idea, since discord made all links temporary a while ago (Honestly I don't like when people use external media sharing/hosting sites in general, many forum posts have such dead links which were overlooked when the site was archived) I fully agree with what you said, especially since this project has already suffered from a discord server being deleted.
The pictures still load for me, but likely because they are cached in the browser. I will do the same thing I did for the individual posts and add them as attachments after work, if I don't forget. I just found this the most convenient approach and didn't know the links expire, very stupid of both Discord and the MC forums for having a limit on attachments and just dumping them at the very end. Only reason why I made these posts to begin with is due to the overwhelming amount of people on Dialko's video who complained about the Discord being the only way to access information about the mods.

I am working on a total conversion mod for each development phase of Minecraft!
I use Imgur for all the images I post, although that has issues of its own since it was blocked in the UK and possibly elsewhere (they also threatened a year or two ago to delete images uploaded anonymously, as I do, but don't seem to have carried it out, or have reasonable thresholds for what is deemed "active", I recall that years before they would remove images that had no views after 6 months and some old threads from that time have missing images, even when years old archived pages are viewed, so they were removed long ago).
Also, my main issue with the way most sites handle images is the difficulty in viewing the original full-sized image, even Imgur does this (I've even seen cases where clicking the image to enlarge it does the opposite because it is longer than the height of the screen, example, at least you can easily drag the image to the address bar, the same also applies to these forums). Reddit also resizes the actual image to a width of 1080, at least when you post multiples in a gallery (isn't that supposed to be the height? Seems odd otherwise to choose such a specific width), and stretches out smaller images so they become all blurry.
A quick update regarding the status of this project:
I am currently in the middle of a complete code cleanup and refactor for Infdev+. So far, I have finished the entirety of the client cleanup and all the container classes. At the moment, I am working on the entity cleanup, which I plan to have finished by the end of next month (this includes migrating all entities to the new AI system, the task-based one introduced in release 1.2.5 that modern MC uses).
Originally, I was planning on working on the next major update for Infdev+ starting this summer. However, given the cleanup will extend into the summer (there is a lot of work left to perform on all the world classes, including migrating all structures to the new custom system written for the mod by na_th_an), I have decided to delay the next major content update for 2027. In the meantime, I will be focusing on the multiplayer aspect of the game (which I will begin as soon as the cleanup is done). I also plan on working on Beta Recrafted for about a month after I finish the cleanup (taking a break before I start work on the MP component).
Also, it goes without saying that Indev+ and Classic+ are no longer supported and will not be receiving any more updates. I can only handle one such project at a time, and I deem those two finished. Similarly, Alpha Recrafted will be discontinued by the end of the Infdev+ code cleanup, as Beta Recrafted will take up all my remaining time for a side-project. I still have 2 more updates planned for Alpha Recrafted until then.
Lastly, you can find a more detailed roadmap I have set out for myself below:
This week: Finish the animal classes, including migration to the new AI system.
By the end of February: Finish the entity cleanup, or at least the hostile mobs and bosses.
March: Items cleanup
April: Blocks cleanup
May, June and likely July: World cleanup and remaining classes (not including network crap, that will be part of the MP work later)
August: Take a break during this month and work on Beta Recrafted instead.
September and onward: Work on the Multiplayer. I already have a merged codebase setup, so it should make things infinitely easier than MP was for Indev+. The mod already uses some very barebones Beta 1.7.3 netcode, it's just a matter of making sure it works with the new lighting engine, anvil and add dimensions support + make all new items and mobs function properly on the server-side.
Next year June: Begin work on the first major content update since the initial release of Infdev+ at the beginning of 2025.
Thank you for reading my insane ramblings and I hope you are enjoying the mods.

Just a small announcement, I have just released Alpha Recrafted v1.1.9, which will be the LAST major update for that mod. I feel like I have done everything I wanted to with it, and need to focus on Infdev+ and the future Beta Recrafted mod. Alpha Recrafted will still be supported with bug fix patches where needed until the summer, but after that it will be dropped for good.
If you have any last suggestions for that mod, now's the time to post them (but please keep them small and simple!)
