The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
The End, in the largest End City
Why did I put this screenshot of me holding a dragon egg? So you'd check out the mod, of course. Go down to reveal the whole mod!
The Gargoyles mod is a vanilla-esc mod that adds Gargoyles: sentinel defenders that are far more precise and controllable than iron golems. Complete with variants, perches, and a randomly generated structure that's woodland mansion quality of difficulty.
Plus Pumpkin: looks like a regular pumpkin, but isn't. Used to build Gargoyles.
Nether Brick Perch
The Gargoyles themselves:
All Gargoyles have the ability to fly, can perch on opaque artificial blocks (preferring their material perch), and can be built by the player.

The Evil Cathedral
Protected by evil gargoyles (stone gargoyles with an eviler skin, and dealing 6-12 damage), this nasty and old structure is maintained by a crazy Illusioner who doesn't know how to repair architecture, leaving the whole thing in disrepair. It's probably one of the most dangerous structures to approach near in the Overworld. Once they're all dead, however, they don't respawn, leaving the structure to you, along with it's treasures. 1 obvious double chest, 1 enchanted book on an item frame, and 3 hidden double chests can be found in it, but you'll have to look for them.
This mod DEFINANTLY seems like it could be the slightly better version to Extra Golems. Add in some mod compatibility and boom! On a side note, how about a Guardian Gargoyle? Made with prismarine blocks, it is a gargoyle designed specifically for water bases. In capable of long distance flight, it using it's incredibly wings to launch it's body through the waters at top speeds. It would use spikes along it's body to impale and ram foes Or, if it's not charging, it will fire off a beam, much like the gold gargoyle. Another Gargoyle that might be interesting would be the the Wither Gargoyle. Constructed out of Sandstone, the Wither Gargoyle would be skeletal in shape with charred bones making it up. To it's center is a wisp, the essence of it's being. It is a frail, but hard hitting Gargoyle. Upon death, the wisp is left behind and a large burst of black clouds is release from it's bones, withering any enemies nearby. After a few moments, the wisp will rebuild it's body and it will continue on as if it had never died.
