Have you ever wanted to build spaceships out of blocks and fly them to other planets? If so, then you will likely find this to be a truly amazing mod! This mod is different from most of the other space themed mods in that it allows you to build spacecraft out of basically any blocks, and fly them into space- without being too difficult to use. You can also travel to the Moon or Mars with them. I plan to give any planets and moons I add to this mod a new and different style, and also a fairly large amount of features like new blocks and items, terrain generation, mobs, generated structures, and materials that can be used to craft tools, armor, and machines.
For a spacecraft to work, it must have a rocket controller block, a dimensions settings card to tell it which blocks should be considered part of it, enough engines, and enough fuel (currently gunpowder) in its fuel tanks. See the useful tips section for detailed information on how to build good spacecraft.
Despite being in the Beta stage, the latest version of this mod is not very buggy at all, but just lacks some major features that I still want to add.
This mod is based on my previous project, the "Moon Mod Renewal", which contains a bunch of textures from a very old moon mod made by sutr90. If you want to know which textures specifically, then you can look here.
Feel free to leave comments and feedback, or if you are a youtuber, to make a video about this mod!

*** Beta 1.0.0 January 9, 2017 ***
-The initial release.
How to build a spacecraft with this mod:
- Step 1: Build a ship that has a rocket controller block, as well as some fuel tank blocks and rocket engine blocks on it. You can add fuel to fuel tanks by clicking on them with gunpowder, and check the amount of fuel in them by clicking on them while holding nothing. Fuel tanks can also be fueled by taking gunpowder from a hopper directly above them.
- Step 2: Click on the rocket controller using a dimensions settings card item and use it as it says. Then Put it in the correct slot in the rocket controller.
- Step 3: Press the launch button in the rocket controller's GUI to activate it! For a spacecraft to fly, its amount of thrust must be larger than or equal to the total number of blocks on it.
How to fly a spacecraft with this mod:
- Launching: Once you have built and loaded your spacecraft with fuel. Open the rocket controllers GUI and press the launch button to launch.
- Travelling: When you are in orbit around Earth, you can press "travel" to go to orbit around the Moon, or to go back to orbit around Earth if you are already orbiting the Moon. A "space travel card" item to select your destination will be added when Mars is added...
- Landing: When you are in orbit around any planet, you can press "land" to land. While you are landing, you have to press the space bar to fire your spacecraft's engines to slow down. You can also use the "WASD" keys to move forwards, backwards, left, and right, or the left and right arrow keys to rotate while in flight.
Useful Tips:
-Gunpowder can now be crafted with charcoal and a new material, sulfur. Sulfur ore can be found very close to pools of lava.
-One gunpowder item will provide 20 units of fuel when put in a fuel tank.
-When full, fuel tanks will try to transfer their fuel to any other fuel tanks below or beside them.
-Fuels tanks can also take gunpowder from hoppers right above them.
-One Mk1 Rocket Engine provides 30 units of thrust, and consumes 0.2 units of fuel per tick. Be careful with how much fuel your spacecraft has, as it can run out mid-flight!
-For a rocket to fly, its total number of units of thrust must be greater than its total number of blocks.
-When you are in a zero gravity environment, you can go up and down by looking up or down while colliding with blocks or by using an EVA pack.
-You can fuel an EVA pack by pressing shift while wearing it and holding gunpowder. Yes, gunpowder is currently the main source of fuel for the things in this mod. I will probably add a better kind of fuel sometime soon, although it may still contain gunpowder...
-To use a pressure creator, it must be in a closed space of some kind, you must load it with a filled air tank or place an air generator adjacent to it, and then activate it with a redstone signal.
-Due to how difficult and time consuming it is to obtain large amounts of iron or aluminum on survival mode, do not hesitate to build the structural part of your spacecraft out of something like wood, cobble stone, or hardened clay!
Upcoming Features (Outdated):
Planned for the next update: (This update (1.2.0) has already been released.)
-Minecraft 1.11.2 compatibility.
-The ability to maneuver spacecraft while landing.
-Some sort of HUD while riding a spacecraft that displays the current velocity, altitude, amount of fuel, etc...
-Possibly a simple mini-map in the HUD, for finding a good spot to land without going into F5 mode (this could easily be done with a map item from vanilla Minecraft though).
-Survival mode affordable metallic structural blocks of some kind.
-A new space suit texture.
-Mk2 spacecraft functional blocks.
-Maybe a large generated structure on the Moon where I could put a boss mob.
Not likely to be added in the next update, but probably in later updates sometime soon:
-Some sort of astronomy mechanic, for setting a new item called space travel cards.
-More advanced spacecraft functional blocks, like mechanisms for automatic flights.
-An "interplanetary" transition dimension, where you can see the planet you are leaving getting smaller, and the planet you are travelling to getting larger.
-The planet Mars, and a lot of new content for it.
-Possibly the planets Venus and Mercury, and more content for them too.
Will probably not be added very soon, but are still planned and will hopefully be added:
-Jupiter and its four largest moons (Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto).
-Saturn and some of its larger moons (certainly Titan).
-Saturn's orbit dimension will have a zone filled with some clusters of blocks and many loose blocks to represent its rings.
-The asteroid belt.
-Uranus, Neptune, and their larger moons.
-Pluto and Charon.
-Some other dwarf planets.
Could be added, but are not a very high priority:
-"Space age" NPCs.
-UFO spacecraft that could rarely land on a random planet, and then leave after a while.
-A bunch of exoplanets (probably made up ones).
-If exoplanets are added, then some sort of warp drive thing for spacecraft.
I really love this mod. How do I know if a pressure generator is working on the moon? Also, do you have anywhere else with a more detailed explanation of how to use the different things in the mod?
A pressure generator has two colored bars on the front of it that are red if the closed space has not been pressurized, and green if it has. As for information on how to use this mod, the "useful tips" section on this thread and on the Curseforge page are currently the best source. I am considering adding in-game book items containing instructions.
This mod is simply magnificent and seriously deserves more attention! Once this gets developed further and you add more features and whatnot I really think this could be insanely popular!
A few ideas I would love to see added:
Higher Reentry: I feel like you fire up the rocket and blam, you're in space. I'd like to see the altimeter climb a ton before getting into orbit. And on reentry, a higher altitude would give people more time to prepare to fire their main engine and safely land. My first landing back on Earth? Yeah... it didn't go well lol.
LRBs: Solid Rocket Boosters (srbs) are fun and all, but I think adding liquid rocket mechanics would be pretty amazing, if it can be done reasonably anyway. An SRB packed with gunpowder should produce a lot of thrust but burn quickly, while an LRB would produce less thrust but last significantly longer.
Staging: I know this one may be extremely difficult coding-wise; it's more of a wishlist item. But as a former Space Camp kid and a Kerbal Space Program fan, I would love to see staging included somehow; burn out your SRB's in launch, stage into your main LRB until you're in orbit, stage again by dumping the main LRB, use your second LRB to reach the moon/ Mars/ whatever, stage into the LEM, land the LEM, play some golf, launch the LEM, dock with the command capsule, stage out the LEM, return home, brag to friends about playing golf on the moon
Seating: I'm not sure if anyone has tried this on a server yet, but I think space races would be a ton of fun and exploring other worlds with friends would be ideal. Some sort of seating would help that. Also, seating would prevent players from getting crammed into blocks during flight.
Science!: Maybe this is a little too hardcore for most players, but me? I would love to see a science points system, where you can only unlock certain features after earning enough science points to acquire them. Science points could be earned through achievements with a set list of goals, like such:
Reach Earth Orbit
Orbit Earth (n) times
Reach Moon Orbit
Orbit Moon (n) times
Moon landing
You could earn additional science by conducting experiments (like you do in KSP). All of this science unlocks better space suits, more building blocks, better engines, better tanks, more internal ship doodads, etc.
More stuff in space: Obviously you're planning this already, but some more space stuff would be awesome. Mineral deposits and other resources on the moon, aliens on other planets (some passive, some aggressive, some villager-like), asteroids and comets you can land on for super-rare minerals, etc.
More stuff in your ship: Ships seem a little too basic and simple. I want more information panels, more ship building blocks, some various doors/ hatches, windows, RCS boosters, and other functional and/ or aesthetic stuff, in a bunch of different colors too, so ships can be a lot more unique and aesthetically pleasing.
Satellites: Launching an unmanned satellite into space seems a bit pointless, I know. But think about how a satellite might help in-game!
Journeymap region/ chunk loading to reveal areas of the world map
Journeymap waypoint sharing system
Dynmap-style (or just screenshot-style) satellite photographs of terrain. Spy on other players' bases from space! zoom level could be set too; it would take an aerial top-down photograph from the Y level you set, allowing you to zoom all the way down to a single block.
GPS Emergency System: players can activate a GPS tool in their inventory, which will send out a ping to every other player on the map. Players can see the lost player's coordinates and a compass arrow that points to the missing player
Subsurface scanners: Scan a single chunk by typing in that chunk's ID. The satellite will load that chunk temporarily and then scan it for subsurface resource deposits, returning number values of how much of each resource can be found there (x diamonds, x iron, x coal, etc.)
LDLS: Launch Detection Logging System, which logs all space launches, including the coordinates from which the attempted launch took place. Helpful for keeping track of other players and knowing how advanced their space programs have become
Encrypted Communications: The satellite can create an encrypted chat channel. Only players with Enigma Decoders in their inventories tuned to that satellite can read the chat; to everyone else, it's just a hot mess of ASCII symbols. But players COULD hack and decode that system somehow, perhaps with some sort of computer terminal they'd need to build and be using at the time a message is sent?
Surface Scanners: finds end strongholds, jungle temples, desert pyramids, NPC villages, underwater temples, etc.
Advanced Vehicular Movement Tracker: Tracks Flan's mod vehicles, Minecraft Flight Simulator Planes, and Archimedes/ DaVinci's/ Valkyrien ships and airships and reports back their coordinates
Space Stations: The ability to launch and dock with a long-term space station that provides tons of science, experience, and all the features of a satellite, only performed manually by players at various terminals. Living in space for a certain amount of time could earn you an achievement
More stuff on Earth: What do we do with all these nifty resources we're gathering in space? It would be cool to see various tools, weapons, armor, food, and building materials that can be crafted using resources found on other planets. Some new machinery might be neat too; smashers, liquid tanks, furnaces, all the sorts of stuff you get from tech mods, but made with materials obtained in space! How awesome would that be!
An ICBM: Okay, maybe this is actually a terrible idea. Or maybe it's the best idea ever? Either way, there should definitely be a config option that enables or disables this on servers, lol. Basically an unmanned rocket that goes up into space and then lands at the targeted coordinates, exploding with A LOT of force. Maybe some sort of potion effects (wither, poison, and dark?) could be spread out all over the blast zone for some absurd number of ticks, making the area toxic from simulated fallout. This would require a targeting system, with better targeting systems being unlocked through science. The systems would be tiered, something like this:
Wood Targeting System = within 500 blocks of target coordinates
Iron Targeting System = within 400 blocks
Gold = within 300 blocks
Redstone = within 200 blocks
Diamond = within 100 blocks
Advanced Targeting System (ATS) = within 50 blocks
Precision Targeting System (PTS) = within 15 blocks
Keyhole Targeting System (KTS) = exact X, Z coordinates
Bunker Buster Targeting System (BBTS) = exact X, Y, Z coordinates; will drill to the Y coordinate in a straight line until it hits Y, bedrock, or obsidian and will then detonate
Sorry, I know that's a lot of wishful thinking, but seeing any of this stuff added would be pretty amazing. I'll be watching this mod closely and testing out each new update you release, and I'll tell my friends to do the same!
Thanks for the positive feedback! Those are all good ideas!
I cannot guarantee that every idea on the list will be used in the near future, but some of those ideas are very similar to ones I already have planned. For example, in the next update I am going to add a lot more content to the Moon, and possibly to the orbit dimensions as well...
Higher tier spacecraft parts are also confirmed for future updates.
A multiplayer space race system of some sort would be amazing for servers, and I should add that sometime soon!
I can t wait to see the next update. When my friends feel up to it again and we launch a new server we can test this extensively too! I'll be watching this thread closely
This mod looks like a very simple thing that tries to keep the original style of the game, while still providing a fun experience.
I love it!

Goodbye, Minecraft forums. If any of ya'll future people persons need to contact me for whatever dumb reason, my discord is EnderDude124#8340 as of 6/8/2019. Send me a message, I like a good chat.
I have been very busy recently, but I could continue working on new updates at some point in the near future. As for updating the mod to be compatible with newer versions of Minecraft- it is very time consuming, and I might just end up waiting for the next major Minecraft update (1.13).
I have had some ideas regarding the theme of new content in the next major update. I am currently deciding between "The Great Martian Adventure Update" (this would make Mars a lot more fun to explore and settle), and "The Jovian Update" (you can expect this to be a kind of aquatic update ). Whichever one is not decided on should still be released- just later on.
What is the difference between GalactiCraft and TheSpaceAge mods? I understand that both add travel to the Moon, Mars, etc ... But what exactly changes? The travel method? Number of planets? specific creatures / mobs? Weather...?
Can I use both mods at the same time? If not, what would be the most complete, the "best"? I've already searched in several forums and I could not find anything
Hi, maybe you know what's the difference between GalactiCraft and TheSpaceAge mod?
I would like to know which is the "best", either in performance or in content.
I've already searched in several forums and I could not find anything. I thought you could know something...
.
Thank you in advance.
GalactiCraft and The SpaceAge mod are similar in ideas, but they both took different directions.
Galacticraft takes a very "tech-mod" based approach to space travel. You must assemble your rocket out of parts that you build. However, once you've done that, the rocket is identical to any rocket built by any other player. (Of the same level.)
The Space Age mod on the other hand, allows you to literally build your space ship from scratch. You get to design it yourself and build it in game.
In the end, your choice in mod is more based around personal preference.
Would you like a more hardcore experience? For for Galacticraft.
Would you like a more vanilla-like softcore experience? Choose The Space Age mod.

For details, see the "What is new" section of the Minecraft Curseforge page.
I just released a minor update "1.3.1", that fixes a bug involving zero gravity on multiplayer worlds. I suggest installing this new version.
Are you going to add mars jupiter, exoplanets, etc.
suggestion
i think that there's a way to go to gas giant planets just make it where there is a sky with a bunch of block and dust every where but no land
kind of like the end
The next major update for this mod will likely add Mars.
As for gas giant planets, I did have an idea that is very similar to what you suggested. Basically sky lands terrain generation made of cloud blocks.
Thanks
this is just too amazing to be true, i love it! i hope you c an continue to work on this mod, it's a very good idea!

Thank you in advance.
Goodbye, Minecraft forums. If any of ya'll future people persons need to contact me for whatever dumb reason, my discord is EnderDude124#8340 as of 6/8/2019. Send me a message, I like a good chat.
This mod is great.
I like being able to build my own spaceship and go to space in Minecraft.
I hope as this mod grows we can go to more planet's, moon's like Europa.
