You don't extract or open the .jar file that the mod comes in, doing so breaks it and you will need to redownload. You just place the still-compressed .jar into your mods folder and run.

I hope someday there's more magic in Minecraft, though I know it's not likely to happen. In the meantime, I play modded a lot. I enjoy a lot of other games too, so don't expect me to be on the forums all the time.

this is my first time modding, so i dont know this stuff. i re downloaded the executable jar file and put it in the mods folder. there was no mods folder when i downloaded forge, so could that be a problem? i just made a new folder named mods in the .minecraft thing. also the overlord file is 1.11-2.0.2 forge is 1.11-13.19.....
does that matter? please help as soon as possible and thank you
i just took a look at the article, but the only different thing was it didnt use the desktop icon. just started right away.
could the overlord file have downloaded wrong?
edit-just tried it again with clicking the hard to see java execute box check thing below the version info in edit profile... nothing
so sorry about this. what if i redownloaded file again...?
Edit #3 lol might have found the problem . .. it says i should have .jar or .exe files for forge but i have .json which my computer cant open, are .jar and .json files compatible ? if not, this could be the problem..... advice on how to fix this please thank you.
The .json files were from curse, but are .jar and .json files compatible ? or should I find a .jar forge? also, if i do download a .jar forge, how do i get the right profiles and launchers? please help thank you
edit -- i tried downloading a forge .exe but nothing happened... could the forge mod launcher just not be finding the mods folder?

Maybe try setting your profile in the MC launcher to use the Forge version instead of a vanilla MC version, if you haven't already?

I'm still not sure exactly where you are getting json files from, or why. Look, setting up Forge is simple. Step one, download the installer from the Forge website. Step two, run the installer and choose "Install Client". Once that completes, step three, open your regular Minecraft launcher. There will now be a profile for Forge, which you need to switch to. Once you switch to the Forge profile, go ahead and press Play. When the game loads, at the bottom left, it will say "3 mods loaded". That means it worked. After that, all you have to do is add mods to the mods folder.
No messing with json files needed.
For everyone else:
I am working on a bugfix update, which should be dne sometime soon. After that, I will make another update with new features. I may finally add the ability to have your troops patrol a route.
i did exactly that-- i downloaded the thing from forge and clicked on the forge profile. maybe i did get a .jar filr and the .json ones were released from it. could my mod--not--loading problem just be a bug? =help please thank you.

Alright, I need users to give me ideas. I am planning to add a path-following system, so you can have your army members follow a route that you set up. What do you think would be the most user-friendly way to do this?
Keep in mind that it needs to be able to be set per-skeleton and for whole squads.
Use some kind of waypoint system I guess, say if you craft a pole that they use to 'follow'?
Waypoints? Interesting. Give me specifics. A walkthrough of how it would work, step by step.
My current thoughts on how to make the path system happen are to add an item that you can set the route with, then right click the army members to apply the route to them. Then, when their movement mode is set to Patrol(I plan to replace "Stationed" with "Patrol"), they will follow that path. However, I can't figure out how that would work as far as applying it to squads. And it may not be the most user friendly way, that is why I want to hear other ideas.
My thought was that we craft a pole that we can place around that acts like nodes for a path-line and that any skelly that's set on patrol would follow the nodes, I guess they would need to be numbered too...

I just want to dig a small hole and stay in it now....

I think maybe how it could work would be you can place the poles, and you set each pole to a number, and then each skeleton can be grouped to a number aswell. you can have multiple skeletons in 1 number group, and how the poles work is where the pole is placed, and set as a starter through shift right clicking or something similar, and then you mark out the path, by placing the poles around at different areas. and they shouldnt need to be all bundeled, maybe you place on at one place, then 10 blocks farther place another, and the skeletons take the fastest path to it. Once they reach the next pole, they try to go to the one after that, trying to follow the fastest path between the two poles.

Do you really want to have poles all over your base, marking paths for skeletons?
Also related to this, what should skeletons do when they reach the end of the path? Go back to the first point, or turn around and walk back the way they came?
Please Help
