I just couldn't stand playing Minecraft 1.9 and having to deal with its notorious timed attacks, which more often than not resulted in my quick demise. So, I got rid of them! Install Classic Combat and you'll regain the old functions of the combat system pre-1.9.
You'll no longer have to worry about timing your attacks just right in order to score a full hit. Just like before the Combat Update, you'll always hit for the attack value of the weapon you're using.
Features full compatibility with servers, other mods, and no performance impacts.

What's Not Changed
The "swing" graphic is still shown when attacking.
Damaged "hearts" are still dropped when something is attacked.
You can still dual wield.
You can still use shields.
Your cooldown indicator will still show and function, however it no longer has effect.
Feel free to use Classic Combat in your modpack, just provide credit and preferably link to the download page on our website or Curse. PMs asking for permission to use in a modpack will not be answered.
Something I thought of that would be the best of both is if they just flat out removed the clicking mini-game and made it based on actual attack speed. You swing your weapon, it does damage, but the attack speed is still there and you just flat out cannot swing it again until it's finished. Animation speeds could be adjusted so that it has an accurate visual representation of when you can swing again. The cooldown bar junk is just unimmersive...
