Sentek is a mod that adds easy to master but challenging to implement
teleporters to Minecraft. With easily available parts, you can make Core
and Node blocks. Connect them with different types of stone to define
targets for your teleporters.
I've always been a fan of mods that allow players to build quick-transit systems to connect outlying builds
and settlements. That said, I've found that simple command-block
teleporters are no fun to implement. A system that players can use on
their own, made from common materials, with a bit of challenge in the
building process, is far more fun, especially on servers.
How It Works:
Craft a core block.
Note: You can use any type of sapling for this crafting recipe.
You can also make Miner's Cores with redstone dust instead of saplings. They work exactly the same, but you can make them without needing to return the the surface for more saplings.
Place it somewhere. Right click it to activate it. It traces out
in each of the cardinal directions, adding up how far in each direction
it should teleport you. Different blocks are worth different distances:
Block - Distance in blocks
Cobblestone - 1
Stone (all types) - 5
Stone brick (all types) - 20
Sandstone (all types) - 20
Obsidian - 100
If it finds a block other than these, or searches more than 10 blocks (configurable),
it will stop searching in that direction. If it finds a node, it searches
out in each other direction from that node. It will not count nodes twice,
so cyclical structures will not form infinite loops.
Nodes are crafted like this:
For example, in the picture at the top of this page, the core will teleport
a player up 50 blocks (20 for each of the vertical stone brick blocks,
and 5 for each of the vertical stone blocks). The horizontal components
of this particular teleporter cancel each other out, by pushing equal
directions in opposite directions.
There is now a config file, with options to create an air pocket at the destination (for those who keep finding themselves entombed in stone) and an option to spawn a glass block under the destination if there would otherwise only be air (for those who keep finding themselves approaching the ground with alarming alacrity).
Also, I centered the player over the destination block because before you'd arrive at the corner of the block instead.
I like the simplicity of the mod in that you don't need expensive ingredients to make a teleporter but one question that I have is just from watching the video it seems like you would already have to know the distance from a teleporter back to your base? Is this right or am I missing it?

Basically. I recommend writing down the coordinates of your base somewhere before you adventure too far away!
Nice! Do you intend to do a backport to 1.8.9? It's okay if you don't.
Afraid not. Not yet, anyways. I might get around to it on Wednesday.
Anyways, I made an update that adds a Miner's Core craftable from redstone, for when you're trapped far underground and no saplings are readily available. It also adds a bunch of config options, like the distance value for each block, and what kind of blocks/items the cores and nodes are crafted from.
First: I imagine that some people might find it too easy to get cores... so maybe make some more core recipes that will push the things later into the game (bucket of lava, rotten flesh, block of gold, Ender Perl, nether quartz)... and then have all of these recipes toggle-able in the config.
Second: I really like how one cobble block is one block of distance... so I could, theoretically, make a tower of cobble with a core at the bottom that would take me to the top of the tower... but that's not what happens... it only seems to read 10 steps/blocks in a particular direction and then stops reading.
Not sure if it's even a good idea to make it read further... maybe just mention the limit in the instructions.
True! I'd forgotten to mention that. I did it to prevent frying one's computer if you accidentally put a core adjacent to solid rock. I'll make note of it!
In other news, I'm going to update to 1.10, for anyone who's interested.

Considering backporting to 1.8.9, and possibly farther to celebrate 500+ downloads. Created a poll to see who wants this.
Very cool mod! Brilliant in it's simplicity.
Two tiny bits of feedback.

Built a fix into the 1.10.2 version. You can change that 10 to anything from 1 to 64 in the config now. Also there is now a 1.10.2 version.
For the 1.15.2 Release version, my game crashes. I've never really asked for help due to a crash, so I don't know what else to include.
