Just a pre-warning but it seems Forge 1.9 builds past 1804 may cause Better Questing to crash unexpectedly due to some major changes. I'll be updating the supported build soon to fix this issue.
I love this mod, but its a bit confusing. How do I add things into a quest? I'm trying to make a quest that includes crafting a powerful tool for me to use (The portal gun from the portal gun mod).

When you're in the editor for the quest, you can select 'Tasks' and add the crafting task from the menu on the right. Then click on the task on the left to edit it. You can then find the 'required Items' list and add your portal gun there.
Eventually I'll have this all clarified on the wiki but I have a lot going on IRL and in modding.

Okay so I thought I understood this Mod. At least it seems to make sense and the flow seems to be good. But I am running into some confusion here. I read the starting book also to make sure I didnt miss anything. I am simply looking to make a very basic quest. Go get wood and stone. Very simple right. And the wood uses the oreDictonary so you can get any type of wood. Quest is all set up everything looks great, it says you need to retrieve 12 cobblestone and 12 wood and you get 6 porkchops as a reward.
But why is my detect/Submit button along with the claim button totally grayed out on the screen where I am testing to see if it works.
Is this because I am in some type of edit mode? I mean even after turning edit mode off it still doesnt allow me to click the Detect/Submit button. Does this have to be added in as an additional parameter?
Is there a prerequisite quest attached to it? Also check if it's already marked as complete in the quest line. If neither of these are the case it might be a bug.

No, there was no prerequisite quest attached to it. It is the only quest in the line (and the only quest in the Database for that matter) and as it stands there was only the one quest in that line.
And no it wasn't marked as complete in the quest line as it still says incomplete and 0/1 Tasks complete. Click on the quest and it takes you right there to the screenshot I linked above, but you are unable to "Detect/Submit"
I should also note as this does appear to be leaning towards the bug side of things, the quest was marked as a Main quest set to true. There is only one Line of quests atm (which I intent to be an introduction) this one quests is the only quest in that line.
Tried this mod instead of HQM, and i think there are some good features in HQM which I would like you would include. First of all if you press the R button and click on the task item in the book NEI shows the receipt. Maybe it's not very important but really helpful, when you are choosing between quests and tries to see if you can do the quest now. Also there was a good feature when you can look into non-opened quests and aslo you can finish them out of order, and get the reward when order comes. For example i always make my Applied Energistics ME system as soon as possible, though modpack makers sometimes tend to move in into late game quests. With HQM I was able to create my ME system when I want, and get a reward when modpack autor wants. But now I have to create the second ME system when quest comes. a real waste of resources.
Any documentation on the import thingy?
I did a /hqm export all and tried to import via menu in BQ book. Client just freezed...

Can you upload a crash log for that? It would help him find the problem alot faster
Thats the problem ... the client just freezed. No logs, no crash.
Creator of Galactic Science, hypovolemia and Caithleens Kitchen. Check it out at FTB/CURSE/MyM
Are you using the vanilla launcher? Or something like MultiMC or the Curse Launcher?
EDIT: If you are using MultiMC, it should have a nice log for you to use
MMC and Curse. Maybe because i used Factions in HQM ? Saw no faction feature for BQ.
And yes I have console output open but no logline. It instantly freezes.
It should work the way I tried it?

There should be an upload button above the log. Please click that, and it should give you a link for uploaded logs.
Occasionally the import window will open behind the Minecraft window making it look like the game froze. I'm working on a fix for it soon.

Yea I did a stupid for serverside, fix coming soon.

I love this mod, but its a bit confusing. How do I add things into a quest? I'm trying to make a quest that includes crafting a powerful tool for me to use (The portal gun from the portal gun mod).

awesome, thanks for the info.

I'm on 1.8.9

Confirmed the quest submissions are broken in 1.8.9 and 1.9. Working on a fix ASAP
