Possibly, you should really see if the authors could move up to 1.8.8 however since a lot of the 1.8 mods should be able to update without much issue, and having access to new forge changes allows for expanding features more easily.
Possibly, you should really see if the authors could move up to 1.8.8 however since a lot of the 1.8 mods should be able to update without much issue, and having access to new forge changes allows for expanding features more easily.
Well, you can probably imagine some are more reluctant to do so, focusing on 1.8-base features or skipping to 1.9. Plus, harrying folks to update to new versions has, uhh. . unpopular results.
I suppose I would be rude to ask people to update, that is true. I'm surprised that 1.8.8 hasn't seen faster adoption since its fixes a lot of the issues that 1.8 players had been experiencing, and quite a few 1.7 mods have started to port to 1.8.8 skipping 1.8.
Released new versions today, for 1.8 we have a bug fix and the new snap modes introduced for the 1.8.8 build.
The 1.8.8 build however includes some pretty cool optimizations, up until now C&B has been using MC's Static Rendering pipeline, which means you get great FPS when nothing is changing, however if you put your chiseled blocks next to pistons, or blinking lights.. or some other crazy contraption depending on how complex your chiseled blocks are you might notice that your FPS starts to fall, if your designs are extremely complicated it might even end up being really bad...
So.. the new build introduces a new rendering engine, for more complicated models they can be processed in the background and keep your game running as smooth as possible, even with that huge piston contraptions clicking away right next to it.
As with all C&B's features you can tweak the behavior if needed, I think I found some pretty reasonable defaults however.
That said this is a pretty large change ( most of my week has been spent on just that ) and it hasn't been as well tested as some of my previous updates so I've labeled 1.7.2 as a beta, there are several other bug fixes included as well as the core changes.
Hopefully the build is pretty solid, if not please submit issues so I can get them fixed for the next release.
Released several bug fixes today, I think most of the Dynamic render issues have been worked out. Also did a minor feature addition.
The bug fixes were applied to both 1.8 and 1.8.8 as needed, and 1.8 received the sound update from the 1.8.8 branch.
The feature for this update was pretty minor, but I think its helpful, the chisled block ghosts, and pattern ghosts now display textures of their contents/result. http://imgur.com/a/iwplf ( from 1.8.8 build ) the 1.8.8 branch is slightly different because of transparency, but its mostly the same.
Minor update today, the last update introduced a bug with chiseling blocks out of existence, this update fixes that bug.
Hopefully that should do it for bug fixes before the next feature update. With that said have a teaser, http://imgur.com/a/BhEBp ( mods featured is Charset + MCMultiPart )
I don't normally share pictures of my work but I thought you might appreciate this. I made a MC Forge server with your mod as one of the main added. Two days work has gotten me this so far with only me working on it:
Thanks for sharing, the images are a bit small, but some of the designs are quite nice. I like the stain glass work and, and the details on the tower and the pedestal/book.
Thanks that works much better, also thanks for the permission to use the images, I'll add some of the to the mod images page in a bit. If you have a close up of the stained glass that would be cool, its one of the first stained glass designs I've seen so far.

So just released a new update, probably one of the largest single updates to the mod so far, including a new chisel/bit radial menu for switching modes, support for MC Multipart, and a lot of other tweaks and modifications / bug fixes.
This build is a beta build since there is a few features that are still incomplete ( most notably drawn region for placing bits ), but I wanted to get the fixes and features out for people to start playing with.
As usual, if anyone has any issues, please report them, issues that are not reported cannot be fixed after all, I hope everyone enjoys the new update.
I've been playing with the mod in survival some to get a feel for the usability/balance outside of creative, and some of the tweaks are included in this update, such as better bit bag behavior. So survival players can look forward to that, and some new plans in the future.
I took one of the stain glass in the day and night. There isn't much difference but you may use whichever. Thank you very much for the mod, you have no idea how much fun I am having/will have with this. I will keep in touch if you'd like.
I'm glad your enjoying it so much, if you have any other creations later your particularly happy with and wouldn't mind sharing them, I know that I for one would certainly enjoy seeing them.

I don't know if it was discussed, but do you have any plans to create a web-site to upload/download people creations, or even in-game browser? I guess it's a hustle, but this is what Chisel & Bits is about, to create and to share
I have plans to add a pattern sharing system in some form, however I've been pretty focused on the core game play so far, but hopefully I'll get that part in sooner than later.
As for a website for it not sure I'm going to go that far.. hopefully it will end up being a little more ad-hoc so that you can share them with people without having to have some central website.
filter for bags (only accepts 1 type of bits and it have high priority to take bits of that type into inventory)
also i noticed that bits can make a lot of lag if they are dropped on ground, i broke only 5 blocks into bits and my inventory was full so they all dropped and it created massive lag, well i don't have much problem with it cause i play single player, but it can be very bad on servers.
The lag on servers I can confirm a little. If I get too close to the stained glass I posted earlier too fast it lags massively. Granted the glass is also made up of about 1,000 block so rendering four times that all at once would cause lag.
Anywho, here's a few more pictures if anyone is interested:
posted as attachments.
(The lamp post is literally just the post I made. The lamp is from another mod. If you are able to make glow chunks glow better I'll be able to make better lamp posts later.)

Thank you, I've added some of the better images from above as attachments in this post. I have no idea if that will help with the size issue or not.
EDIT: Any of the pictures I post you may use if you'd like. I can also get a close-up of the stain if you'd like to use it.

Thanks for sharing, I've added a few of the pictures to http://minecraft.curseforge.com/projects/chisels-bits/images
Thank you so much, if you're ever interested in joining a server message me. Might be able to build some cool stuff.

There's no 1.7.10 ver. of this mod, is there?
No, there are a few mods that have similar features however available for that version of Minecraft.
Davincing - http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/wip-mods/2342160-davincing-minepainter-continued is one such mod.
