Life Guage is a mod that displays the current health of a mob. If the mod isn't installed on the server, potion effects will not be visible. It's not required to be installed on the server, though. A server can also disable the mod for all the users connecting.
You can see the current hearts on the name tag and the total hearts on the black bar.
A name tag is always preferred over the normal entity name.

I looked for a mod to display the mob health for 1.8.9 and found this to work very well
But it works a bit too well, as all loaded mobs have their health bars show through opaque/solid blocks to reveal their position, which feels a bit cheaty and makes the screen really messy. I also noticed that the spinning mobs inside spawners also have a health bar above their head (though that is less important to fix in my opinion).
Could you make the health bars hide behind blocks or only appear when we're looking directly at a mob?
If you would add a config option to limit the range at which mob health is displayed, that would also be very much appreciated

AlphaeusXVIII's creations - the templates require the Ruins Mod to work (the screenshots obviously don't) and the README!.txt file is there for a reason. Enjoy now with templates for 1.8.8!

Is it possible to hide the top-left GUI and leave the transparent how-many-hearts-left GUI untouched?

If I helped you in any way or agree in my ideas or posts, make sure you click that green arrow pointing up below my post or simply huggle me! I use 1.7.10 (Modded), so when I comment that I like a 1.8 mod, I will comment to downgrade to 1.7.10. I support no pics, no clicks. Suggestions that I think that are the best deserves a banner!
It is almost time to say goodbye to 1.7.10 because of the recent surge of big 1.9 mods.
Why MCreator sucks: jcm2606's file (doesn't open a new tab) He allows/welcomes anyone to link the file, so I put it here in my signature for people to know how MCreator functions. I thank jcm2606 (he's awesome) for creating the document/file and I'm just here to spread the word.
After using WAILA for its health indicator for a bit, I've gotten quite tired of its additional features and thought I'd go back to check out if there was a new version of LifeGauge. Sadly the most recent version that I can get to by following your download link still have all the same issues... It's LifeGauge 0.1.3 for Minecraft 1.8.8 (uploaded to curse.com December 18th).
Is the fixed version you speak of available for download from anywhere?

One question, by any chance, is it possible to show health on top of players?

Sorry for my late reply. I fixed the issue in the newest version.
Fixed all of these things too!
