The BetaOTA over-the-air updater has been released!
The installation of Beta 1.7.4 Custom Updates has never been easier, download BetaOTA.exe, run it and download the updates. Once it has finished just open the Minecraft launcher and select b1.7.4 from the version selection menu!
The OTA updates are verified by the software update server via SHA Secure Hashes. The software update server, by signing only the latest version of Beta 1.7.4 prevents malware from being distributed by sites that reupload my custom updates.
There's always one thing I wanted ever since the Halloween update came out, and it's an ''Alpha'' biome, with the same old green grass, leaves and world generation. It would be a cool way to make this feel even more nostalgic without the repetition. I would love to see this in the mod.
I will be adding infinite fire spreading over an OTA update later this week!
I welcome you all to the new launcher: This project unlocks beta 1.7.3 forever providing easy OTA updates and supports modding the jar!
Yes its the launcher we all know and love from Alpha HOWEVER I have updated it to work with the new login system and support name changes!
Get the complete Beta Package by downloading the Launcher and enjoy Beta 1.7.4 like it was meant to be played! Not just an old version from the version selection menu!
Oh and yes, this fixes multiplayer, you can use online-mode servers because you will get a real SessionID and AccessToken
You can now update to Revision 6.1 using your Minecraft Launcher!
This version adds Native Multiplayer world saving, which saves everything you can see to the disk, allowing you to backup your creations as Beta 1.7 servers are quite unstable and frequently shut down without warning. Big thanks to cubic72 for this one!
Removed gears and replaced them in the crafting recipes with Iron Bars. They were quite useless as you could not place them and had a horrible texture. A monster egg technical block was also removed as it was not used anywhere.
Bonus update: 6.2 fixes the game over screen to yellow color and not &e0
Also fixes a world downloader color bug.
Misc:
You can NOT use the BetaOTA.exe to update to this version, that tool was just a prototype launcher and will not receive updates! Please download the real launcher from the front page/OP.
If you have gears or monster egg technical blocks use NBTEdit.exe to remove them from your chests otherwise your game will crash!
The IDs for Monster egg was 97 and Gear 616 if you want to remove them with NBTEdit
I will look in to FOV changing for the next version! Hopefully it does not require large scale Renderer changes.
Also planned for the next version is the "Software Renderer" this means you can play minecraft at a lower resolution on PCs that are normally not supported due to "Pixel Format not accelerated" or "Bad graphics drivers" or "OpenGL not supported".
The launcher will detect if hardware acceleration is supported and switch to software rendering if your GPU normally does not play minecraft (Useful for budget laptops!)
The current release is certainly moddable if anyone is wondering!
You can install *any* mod made for Beta 1.7.3/1.7.4 by using the old beta method, go to %appdata%/.minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar and pasting your mod files inside of the Minecraft.jar, best of all, ModLoader for Beta 1.7.3 is pre-installed!
Bonus Feature for next version: Sneak to Place, in Beta you can't place signs/torches/buttons on chests/workbenches because instead of placing them you open the GUI, well now Sneak to place instead of interact!
Edit: Its out, R6.3 is available for update in the Minecraft Launcher!
Fixes textures not included bug, adds sneak to place!
Could you please upload the latest version here by itself to use in manual installation? Instead of just using the launcher making it only obtainable by the launcher?
Also! A suggestion... a configuration file to selectively disable/enable certain blocks? Or to just change block ID's?
I attempted to login to no avail. Does this launcher support the Mojang account login (Email and password) or does it only allow veteran players (Username and password)?
I discontinued manual installation because it is too hard to do for inexperienced and even experienced mod users. You have to manually install the Loader first and then the mod over it which is confusing and creates a lot of private messages which I have to deal with. In addition in the post 1.5 launcher you not only have to rename the json file but remove a whole block of code out of it because minecraft will re download the jar file and delete the mod, which leads to support questions like "I installed the mod but nothing changed
Even explaining it has given me a headache...
As for the launcher not working, I'm changing hosts so there might be some down time, you can still play offline if you have installed it from before!
Requesting help regarding 1.7.4 and mod compatibility. I'm trying to play More Creeps And Weirdos mod (a CLASSIC for me) with this version and keep getting a crash when approaching a custom entity. I believe the issue(s) is related to audio, but im not a modder here. I also can't get a crash report because minecraft doesn't provide one when it crashes.
So i also found out it crashes when i break a block. but the mod doesnt affect blocks in anyway, it only adds new mobs/sounds/items. any ideas please?
I also would like the old fire spread back. Beta 1.7 kinda ruined that one, where's the fun when things stop burning so quickly?
More blocks doesn't really interest me, but I like the minecart stuff and floating rails are a fun idea.

You should add an option to change the fov in the menu like in the new versions.

Update 6.3B released!
Fixes a small bug where if you shift-right-click on a container/workbench while holding air (nothing) your game crashes with dirt screen.
The shift click with no item bug was also fixed in multiplayer!
I would be glad if someone could Let's Play this mod
Inventory Editor has been updated with the new items of the latest update!
The water tool is especially useful because it gives you a pocket infinite water source!
Shift-Right-Click to place water anywhere and Right-Click to remove water from anywhere!
I think I'll really get into this mod when a stable multiplayer build comes out.
Sadly multiplayer will not be supported until a server developer is found...

Which I have not, but thank you for clearing that up, do keep informed when the process of changing hosts is complete.

The service should now be restored!
Try logging in again to trigger a software update!
All issues with the game should be completely resolved now and you should be able to update/download Revision 6.5
