Dude, this would be genius, if it wasn't for the fact that...
Nobody plays 1.7.3. Still, i LOVE this version, and if i still used it i would use this mod, and i appreciate someone would make a mod, in 2015, dedicated to my favorite version of Minecraft. (Rant-ish thing incoming) I just think the game has gone downhill too much since beta 1.7. It's become more of an RPG, too... Diluted, for it's simple outset. This was meant to be a game about building whatever. Now it's a game focused MUCH more heavily of survival and killing, mining, and exploring. Yes, if you wanted to do that in 1.7, you could, but it was still much simpler in just that set than what it is today. I dont know why they added all that stuff, honestly, just a creative mode would have been fine, and all the content from today BESIDE the new combat (Crits and whatnot, not the 1.9 update), experience, hunger, and other stuff. I still love 1.7.3 and wish it was still a largely supported minecraft version, like, a version called Minecraft Classic- And i dont mean the CLASSIC versions from 2009/2010. I mean basically, a revamped version with 1.7.3 with some of the new stuff, like blocks from beta 1.8 until now, no strongholds, no XP, hunger, Imagine it. Bring back minecraft 1.7.3, but better. That's be a great idea.
tl;dr Everything newer than Beta 1.7 sucks and doesn't suck.
Sorry 'bout that rant. I just... miss the golden days of Minecraft, Y'know? Mods., please don't warn me for going off track ;_; My nostalgia is to blame. But seriously, please don't. all that was technically related to this mod, so... Yeah.
I am not sure about adding the 1.8 and further blocks because some players might think the mod has become "tainted" with 1.8 content. I don't know what people want more, 1.7 with new blocks or a completely different 1.7 version
Revision 4 of the mod may include stone bricks, however I would like to know your opinion on this since its a Beta 1.8 block and I don't know if by including 1.8 blocks will it ruin the mod for you?
That is true, Tom. You do make a good point. It depends on what you want, what seems that it would FIT in 1.7.3 that could've gone in. Stone bricks, i think, (Atleast i think) would fit fine. Along with some other blocks, like even the modern sponges.
I added the stone bricks you always wanted! Together with a new variant that looks like small bricks and looks good for prison cells
Download Revision 4 at the Original Post!
There might be some quirks when updating to this one because some internals changed to be future proof. Like redstone block now has the same ID as it does in regular minecraft so its compatible when switching maps
And legacy blocks like classic gold are now ID 2+ID so Gold Block is 41, its legacy ID is 241, iron is 42 so 242 and so on.
PS. Make sure you use the NEW inventory editor with Revision 4 or you will get the wrong blocks!
Oh instead of adding a glowstone lamp I wanted to add another redstone torch thats as bright as a torch and looks like a torch-lantern. Of course we can add both
Birch planks are kind of hard to emulate properly since that would require adding of all the birch related blocks like stairs and associate their IDs as damage values but it is doable.
Hey man, I've been developing my own mod called Back 2 Beta, it isn't compatible with ModLoader (it dosen't use it) or most mods that edit base classes, because this edits base classes like how a real update would. It's currently at Beta 1.7.9 and the Beta 1.8 (that never was) version is being developed. Want to help me? I've added a good bit of features and tweaks to my mod already. It brings back the old cobblestone texture but with a new smooth cobblestone block which uses the new texture, it also has stone bricks but only one variant, it's crafted with 4 stone brick items.
I don't want to make something that is not backwards compatible with beta 1.7.3. I can change any class I want the way I do it however it always remains compatible with mods created for 1.7.3. It uses a modified version of ModLoader that is backwards compatible with old mods but has some new methods that let you take control over classes but still give priority to 1.7.3 mods.
Currently 1.7.4 can connect to 1.7, 1.7.1, 1.7.2 and 1.7.3 servers.

Hey, maybe I could help you with this project as the texture and sound artist, I think I'm pretty good at copying the Alpha and Beta art styles.
Any help is appreciated with this project
Do you have any examples of Alpha or Beta stuff you have done?
Yes, here are some.
I like the textures
What block would you like to add to beta 1.7.4?
Glowstone Lamp, and I think the stone brick texture could be better.

This is awesome.
Awesome.
Keep up the fantabulous work!
It is compatible with beta 1.7.3 multiplayer
For revision 5 you can expect nether bricks
You can also expect 2 types of cobblestone, the dark classic one and the regular beta 1.7 one
