The small lakes in Moor are generating a few blocks below grade, causing very unrealistic overhangs and some small floating islands. Not sure if that's new to this snapshot or not as I don't think I ever found a Moor in the previous ones.
Morning all, I thought I'd post an update to my previous findings with RTG 0.0.5 for MC 1.9, as I discovered a couple of things last night.
So previously I've mentioned the weird "Floating Trees" incompatibility with Better Foliage, well it seems a newer version of Forge has fixed that completely as far as I can see
One thing I mentioned before was, I found Caves and Ravines to be very rare. Well last night I played around with the RTG config and increased the overall size and frequency of both, started a new world and went looking.
Unfortunately after 2 hours of running round, flying and teleporting to new biomes, I still didn't find a single Ravine nor Cave entrance.
So, I went into spectator mode and clipped under the world and discovered that there were indeed caves... I mean a Lot of cave systems! The world looked like an Ant farm haha, they were everywhere! But the issue is, even while clipping and flying round I could see that only 1 in every 30-50 caves systems actually connected to the surface and had an entrance. So most of the time the only way to find a cave would be luck when digging down.
As for ravines, even when clipping under the world, I still didn't see a single one. I did find a couple of mountains that spawned next to each other forging a valley of sorts, which I thought might have been RTG's attempt at a ravine, but I'm not sure, what do you think (Screen Below)
One awesome thing I didn't realise until srs_bsns told me: I normally use 2 mods for Villages. 1 to make Villages more rare, and the other to make Villages bigger. So they are rare, but when you find one, it's a big deal as they are large. But now, I can do that with RTG So I don't have to wait for those mods to be updated, and I tested it last night, found 2 villages, 1 was normal size and a bit broken, most of it was sunk into a hill, but the other one was perfect. Great feature.
I also mentioned that I'd found a few mountains that seemed to be made from large percentage of coloured clay. Well I found a few last night, (Screenshot below). Is this intentional or a bug??? Just seems a little out of place being that high up.
Also, I came across this mountain which seem unrealistically steep. Thought you might want a screenshot for reference.
And finally, I discovered a weird looking wall next to a river. Again, I thought you might want a couple of screenshots for reference.
All in all though, everything seemed better, I think the newer version of Forge has ironed out a few issues I was having with extreme lag and crashing after a while. I got some screenshots of a few areas that RTG had made look... breathtaking Damn the world looks so much better, I really can't say thank you enough for this mod.
Anyway, thought I should post an update in case it helps a little.
No ravine generation - despite cranking the settings up.
Did you enable them in rtg.cfg? they are disabled by default (because they ruin pristine landscape )
# [default: false]
B:"Enable Ravines"=false
Highland Estuary biome - seems to be being treated as a swamp - so they spawn in the middle of land areas, not near seas or river mouths. Just a suggestion - but wouldn't it be better to treat it as a beach biome for land edging?
It's the biome manager that handles biome placement, so that sort of thing it outside of the scope of RTG. However, Zeno410 has been given permission to take over Highlands from the original author, so he might be able to do something about that from within Highlands.

Awesome. Less things to look into.

See my reply to MohawkyMagoo, above. Ravines are disabled by default.

The stained clay is normal. It's a feature that Ted80 had added to RWG before Pink forked that mod to make RTG, so that code is ancient. You can find settings in rtg.cfg to customise it if you want. Look for the section: "terrain shadowing" near the bottom. In the past people have raised issues with it being improperly rendered with Optifine, and the fact that you are using Optifine with shaders, it might look ugly.

Seems intended to me.

This is a known issue that is currently being addressed.

I believe the ponds in Moor are generated as a part of the biome decoration process, and therefore it is done by BoP. And I believe BoP's method of pond generation mimics vanilla minecraft, so unfortunately it can create some instances of unrealistic generation.
There was a challenge a while back to create high-quality alpine mountain terrain procedurally with RTG. I can't find the post to reply, but, here's the new Highlands Snow Mountains:
As the terrain suggests, there's a little rugged valley wending its way up the mountain behind the ridge in front.

Here a nice shot of a dense forest with some ice mountains in the background :); edit. ow yea, and some nice high mountains, thanks for the awesome terrain

Very very nice Mind if I ask what texture pack that is you're using???
Its a custom texturepack, although its base is Sourtex Fanver (64x), running alongside R3Dcraft (128x). The R3Dcraft has been modified with "better" textures in some places, and is running over the sourtex fanver (in the resourcpack tab it is above, this is to ensure the default textures are taken from R3Dcraft).

I'm trying to make my own custom map with good ol' RTG terrain. I seem to remember one of the terrain mods adding an option to generate a map from an image, and I was wondering if it was possible to do that with RTG, or if it's not RTG that can, if I can still somehow get RTG generation in there. I'm on mc version 1.7.10.
Generating a map from an image sounds like ATG, and that's the mod you should use for that. RTG would not be able to place biomes onto an existing map. AFAIK ATG is the only mod which tackles the (difficult) problem of placing biomes on existing terrain.

Ok, so I have discovered the issue with Ravines seemingly not generating. I enabled Ravines in the config, set the number very low giving them a very high frequency rate, then started a new world and went into spectator mode.
While clipping under the world I found dozens and dozens of Ravines... But, the reason they seemingly ain't generating is, they have the same issue as Caves and surface Lava pools, they have no entrance or opening at surface level. They all have a 5-15 block ceiling, so they are not accessible without mining down and just blind luck hitting one.
I did the same thing with Caves and surface Lava pools, setting the config to give them a massive chance of generating, and again while in spectator mode, just under the surface, cave systems and lava pools everywhere, but no caves have openings to the surface and not 1 lava pool was visible without mining down a few blocks.
So this is definitely the issue and why they seem to not be generating, because we can't see them due to them being covered.
Changing the subject a little. I spoke too soon regarding the incompatibility with Better Foliage... I just started a new world, no changes since yesterday, no new mods or updates, PC hasn't even been switched off, yet all trees (100%) were floating again. Tried another new world and same bug again
I did however realise that the tree trunks are in fact there, but the wood blocks themselves are just invisible. I realised when I saw villages had missing wood blocks. It seems that 100% of wood blocks regardless of type are completely invisible.

Darn. That's a bit disheartening, because I much prefer RTG... I guess it's time to test maps until I find one that suits me!
That is a feature, not an issue. I personally really like this feature as well.
It's a feature!? Oh, I didn't realise. The thing is though, with this as it is, in dozens of hours of flying around, I haven't seen 1 single lava pool or flow anywhere without mining down. None flowing down hills or mountains, no pools... nothing at all. I really don't know if I like that personally. Plus, wouldn't caves have openings at surface level, at least occasionally I mean. Having one or two dotted around so they are a nice find would be great, definitely better than vanilla where they are every 10 blocks, but none at all seems strange.

Hope that helps
Thanks, appreciate the info
Mod is great, but, in my opinion, glasiers must be better and, please, make disable stone beach option. I tired of changing config.
Sentinel Rock watches over the narrow strategically critical straits between two continents:
(You can't see it in the pic, but the beach on the left is part of an unconnected continent.)
