Reproduced from the server side with just the plugins.
Again, for my reference, here's the text in the server's log:

I can tell what's happening -- apparently bukkit doesn't like empty plugin channel packets in 1.7.10, but is fine with them in 1.8. You'll probably be able to get it to work if you use the older litemod version of WDL (but a fair amount of things aren't supported in it). Should be possible to backport the (unintended) fix when 1.8d, where the version number is also sent making the packet no longer empty.
I'm 99% sure that if you somehow did manage to get forge + WDL coremod to work together, this error would still occur.
When I use 1.7.10a littlemod I can join to server, download... but I cant save world...
Right, "Could not get class for LongHashMap.Entry". It's an annoying error message that was changed in later versions -- basically, it means that it couldn't save the currently loaded chunks.
The easiest way to deal with it is to manually unload the chunks by running about the world and then running back -- they'll be saved in the same way.
As noted in the main post, you unzip that file and put the contents in 1.8.jar, and then delete the META-INF folder in 1.8.jar. Look in the coremod section of the installation instructions for more info; if you need more help let me know.
You need to be using the 1.8 jar, not 1.8.3. You'll still be able to connect to 1.8.3 servers, it's just that the mod is only able to be applied to 1.8 for technical reasonds.
Now I get an error even with Minecraft started from scratch. Could you help me figuring out what's wrong? I know this isn't up to you but you might know what is it

Description: When the launcher tries to run Minecraft, you get a crash report that starts with: org.lwjgl.LWJGLException: Could not create context. The reason why Minecraft cannot start is that some of its files haven't been downloaded. This is most commonly due to an antivirus program mistakenly blocking some of the files, such as lwjgl.dll or other files.
Solution: Temporarily disable your antivirus program, download Minecraft once again, then try logging in.
MC|Brand, WDL|INIT, and WDL|CONTROL are the main channels. The first one is to decide whether the server runs spigot (and change entity track distances so that they are properly saved), while the other two are intended to be used to toggle functions of WDL on the server (but in most cases are just ignored) and also properly handle entity track distances if needed. The "Sending plugin channels registration" message is more of a debug message (there's several other such debug messages; due to a glitch sometimes they appear when they should be disabled). For most servers, this information is irrelevant
Is the world download cumulative? Can I run this multiple times to build up a save? Or must I visit all my bases in a single pass?
It's cumulative, although by default it does also save a .zip backup with the state of the world after each download. It also merges tile entities between downloads, so if you don't reopen a chest in the second download of the same area but opened it in the first one, it'll use the old contents.

Unless I am using it wrong, while it works with liteloader, which works with forge, its not saving the forge block dictionary as all the mod blocks are vanilla blocks when I load the SSP world.

Yep, it probably won't work :/
Improved forge support is something that should be possible in 1.8d. I'm working on an API to allow extensions. It should be possible to save the forge ID tables via that (I've actually partially reverse-engineered the forge protocol for another project).
Sadly, yep. You can use the liteloader version with forge, but I can't make any guarantees as to whether mod data will be saved (the next release will have some things that should make handling other mods possible, though). It's hard to handle a bunch of mods with each having a different protocol.
I've tried downloading a small part of a map at least 7 times so far, sometimes by flying around constantly for at least 10 minutes but it's always missing important parts of it (just chunks that didn't download). It's really bothering, could you help me please?
I never had this in the past.
This type of issue has been reported a few times in the past, and I'm still not entirely sure why it happens. Issue #12 has some info.
Can you tell me which server you are on, and also can you post a copy of the log file (found in %appdata%/.minecraft/logs/latest.log)?

Great mod! I've used this for a while and I'm glad to see that there's now a liteloader release, as well as a few new updates.
How do I install the coremod? It's a zip file
PS: thanks for updating this, you're awesome

"org.lwjgl.LWJGLException: Could not create context" seems to be the issue there. Looks like there is a mojang support article about it:

Fixed, thanks!,
Also, what channel is this mod using?

Looks amazing, but there is no Forge version

You can use Liteloader with Forge. This mod still works that way.
However, mod data may not be guaranteed to be saved.
