I would like to announce a new Mod in the works called Fancy Fish Mod. It introduces a number of exotic fish mobs and craftable items including fish food, fish bowls, fish tanks and a fishing net to capture and keep them as pets.
This Mod is a work in progress. Try it out on test worlds before using it with your existing worlds. This Mod has been tested with Minecraft 1.8.8.
More information and download links can be found on the mod's web page.
Incidentally, there is a modding tutorial video series about implementing a turtle mod that can both swim and walk on land, but I don't know if it is part of a published mod. Perhaps it was available for an older version of Minecraft.
I could start with a water-only turtle mob eventually, but I'd like to focus on the fish tank block features first.
Hi, I got this mod and I love it but I’m a bit confused about the spawn conditions. Is there a minimum amount of space or depth required for the fish to spawn? And is there some kind of ratio between how much water there is and how many fish will spawn? I found several 1 block deep pools swarming with fish, but there are no fish spawning at all in the 2 block deep lake behind my house. Also, on a few occasions I found a bunch of scales and dying fish nowhere near water.
Secondly, I have a little pond in front of my house and wanted to add a few fishies to it, but when I drop a fish from the bowl into the pool, it doesn’t move at all and seems to be stuck within the block in which I dropped it.
Lastly, when I kill fish they don’t always drop scales (maybe it’s meant to be like that). Also, upon death they float in the air for a few seconds (laying on their side) before they actually disappear and drop xp orbs.
I really like the mod, it adds a really nice atmosphere to the game, I just wanted to report these observations. Thank you for making this!
