I'm sure they've changed the animation since the video, but I feel like the tail needed a little more movement, and maybe curl the wings up a bit more. Also, are the wings gonna fold up slightly when sitting still? Because I figure they'll be used to walk since the dragons (wyverns technically) don't have front legs for walking.
There are several screenshots of exactly that in the spoilers in the OC.
Also, wouldnt it be cool if there was an even rarer variable of a stage 5 that has like a broken horn or three, scars or torn wings?
A friend mentioned that idea just hours ago when I showed him the OC and vid. He was saying wouldn't it be cool if there was a boss elder dragon with golden horns.
Which I really love.
Another idea is maybe an elder with a gold encrusted underbelly from centuries of sleeping on his hoard. That's what Smaug had in the novel for The Hobbit. He had so much gold covering his under-half that it acted like armor and the arrow hit him in a small spot on his chest where there was an exposed patch.
well once more than you guys for all of your hard work and I really just can't wait to see for myself all the things you put into this mod. don't rush it because art takes time but this is going to be epic
Yeah, Wyvern is a dragon Type. Seeing know it all, nitpick nazi's barking "It's not a dragon, it's a wyvern!" always irks me.
I've read a book about drawing dragons, actually several of them. Dragons come in many shapes and sizes, the 'it's a wyvern, not a dragon' issue comes from the fact that everyone seems to be thinking of the Western Style Dragon, like the kind seen in Dragon Mounts.
To paraphrase the book: if doesn't breath fire and instead uses poison, it's a Wyvern, if doesn't use poison, and or breaths fire, it's a dragon. So despite what some people say, these are Dragons. By that 'rule' a Wyvern could have four legs and a wings.
Yet as I said before, dragons come in all shapes and sizes, and this is not the first time people have used Wyvern style dragons, Skyrim, The Hobbit, Reign of Fire. There is no law that states a dragon has to look a certain way, to be a dragon, hell, I've seen dragons with fur and feathers, even crystals.
I've always been partial to the fur and scales look myself.
A question about the End. Lets say you manage to get your dragon to the portal, such as excavating above it to make a path. You've defeated the dragon. Now there's that dinky little portal to the outer islands where you have to search far and wide for the castles/ towers. Are you able to send your dragon through that portal or would you be forced to fly your dragon a full kilometer in order to take it to the outer islands? The little portal is just a horizontal 1 block square with 2 blocks of space over it and made of bedrock, but the corners are missing so I'm wondering if something the size of one of your tamed dragons pressing into a corner would be enough to reach the portal.
I'll often see tabs that haven't been updated and the OC hasn't been edited since last summer I think, so if there are still plans to release a 1.8 version is still unknown.
As for the dragon/wyvern debate, Dragons are mythical creatures and by default what makes a 'dragon' varies from world to world. In my personal opinion, Wyverns have two legs and a pair of wings, and Dragons have four legs and two wings (at least the western variety), that's also what Notch has said, so it would be more considered 'canon' for the world.
On the subject of dragons vs. wyverns, I had a magnificent book called "Draconology, the great encyclopedia of dragons" (the title was in french, that's a rough translation...). Even though the book was aimed toward childrens, it had quite accurate information about this beast. Let me tell you, there were a lot of shapes that a dragon could take. In it, there was both the European dragon and the Wyvern. Heck, there was even a dragon without wings or back legs! I think this means that both names are used to describe different dragon species.
Stop the discrimination, wyverns too are dragons!

I've read a book called Dracopedia, it's mostly about how to draw dragons, but in it there are depictions of dragons as if they were actually creatures, with dimensions, habitats and scientific names. In it were various other creatures considered dragons, and others, not so much, but treated as part of the 'draco family' of creatures. It had Wyrms, Sea Orcs (think a sea serpent but more brutish in appearance, but seriously F boats if that this thing actually existed, F the beach, F water sports. You think surfing is dangerous because of sharks), Winged Serpents Basilisks, Hydras, and Wyverns, They had Northern Dragons, which had fur, dog like drakes, even one with three heads, snake like wyrms, the insect like Feydragons and species that seemed to cross these groups. Wyverns were among the most dragon like of the draconian species. Heck, the only Dragons in the book that breathed fire where the Great Dragons (Western Style Dragons) and they spat out fire balls as opposed to breathing it.
Another book I read, Forging Dragons by John Howe ( a prolific artist, who did a lot of the concept art for the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit Movies), talks about dragons designs, types of dragons and prolific dragons of mythology. Our modern understanding, that dragons must breath fire, or something similar, is actually really new. Dragons just had to be large and powerful (even that isn't universal, cue examples above), mythical reptilian beasts. Yeah, Wyverns are a type of Dragon, but as you said, they same to be subject to 'Dragon Racism'.
For those interested: In Dracopedia, the scientific names were...
Wyverns: Draco wyvernae
Dragon/Great Dragon (Think Western Dragon): Draco dracorexidae
Asian Dragon: Draco cathaidae
So yeah, Wyverns are part of the dragon family, if that makes sense
The discussion evolved out of the fact that people have kept saying the Dragons in this mod are "not proper dragons", because they look like the stereotypical Wyverns. The point is, even beyond the fact that it's their choice, there is precedent supporting their choice in design. Meaning what people use to support their arguments, really doesn't support it all that much. You are right, the modders can call it whatever they want, but sadly, for some that isn't enough to not complain. Hopefully this is a dead issue now, but...people.

I'd call Wyverns 'cousins' rather then True Dragons, similarly to sea serpants. Although then one could make the argument that Western and Eastern species of dragons should be considered fully separate, only as related as 'cousins' as wyverns to Western Dragons.
At the end of the day dragons are mythical creatures and (probably) nobody alive today has seen one, if they ever did exist. It's all up to how you decide to interpret it, there's no use arguing over what's at it's core just opinions. It's like debating whether zebras are black with white stripes or white with black stripes (even though they're obviously white with black stripes )
Will we be able to leash pet dragons? Can they be told to sit and how high can they climb? Would we need to make our padlock fences double tall? And can we fight while mounted? As in with a bow? And I can't remember if it has been brought up but will there be some type of armor for pet dragons?

When in doubt, Painterly it out!

Ice and Fire: Dragons in a whole new light
Technically these aren't actually wyverns. They just put that in the thread to stop whining.
A Wyvern doesn't walk on it's wings, it folds them up like a bird, and walks around on only two legs. These are a nameless type of Dragon.
I was trying to fit Heimskr's speech into this place, but it wouldn't fit.

Quick little suggestion,
to make a more Aesthetically Pleasing "Dragon Faceoff" sort of Screenshot, you{whoever reads this} should use Mo' Bends{which is for 1.8}
it makes the player have a nice stance when holding a sword
most modded armour works
if you are doing 1.9 instead, however, there is a Shoulder Surfing mod for 1.9 here
there is not a 1.8 version of Shoulder Surfer{the rendering system is too awful, I suppose}, but eventually there will be a 1.9 version of Mo' Bends
well once more than you guys for all of your hard work and I really just can't wait to see for myself all the things you put into this mod. don't rush it because art takes time but this is going to be epic

Well the mod is still put as a 1.8 mod, so hopefully that answers the question of 1.8 or 1.9

but both are dragons not types they are just dragons and people view them as types but they are not.

Why does this matter.
This is their mod and it's the best-looking dragon mod I have ever seen.
They can call it whatever they want, and do whatever they want with it.
So long as it comes out and I can use this in my rp mod pack and server I don't care.
And the last thing on this, If you don't like it make your own mod or add-on for this mod.
The discussion evolved out of the fact that people have kept saying the Dragons in this mod are "not proper dragons", because they look like the stereotypical Wyverns. I think I had that same book.
