I would definitely learn at least basic Java first. I tried to learn Java while learning to mod at the same time, and things didn't go very well.
Ok, now that even Forge is on 1,9 (beta right now, I know), is there any chances of moving the meddle backpacks to the Forge version once you update your forge backpack mod to 1.9 without loosing their content, their upgrade system would be a mega plus to our adventures. I didn't expect the Forge to move to 1.9 so quickly, I'm so surprised they did it so quickly this time, maybe its the thing that Lexmanos said about what he was working on a way to make Forge transition between versions a breeze, I think it was called fern flower or something like that.
Also have you considered making a mod that makes the compass point to your respawn point instead of the world spawn? It's annoying when I need to run around for hours trying to find my home because I didn't like my spawn.
Quick question, any ways to make meddle work with either forge or craftbukkit, I want the plugins badly but I can't get past the awesome meddle mods like the backpacks, I don't want to start a new world because of this.
I'm trying to create a mod with this, but I don't know where to start and am a bit confused. I know basic java. Can someone give me some pointers on how to set up the environment and create mods with this? Or at least point me to a good tutorial?

Since Forge is out for 1.9, you should rather work with Forge or LiteLoader, Meddle is unsupported now, the guy that created it doesn't support it anymore he has other things more important to do, either in is real life or other more important projects, it was nice to have some small mods for the 1.9 snapshots, but now jump in the forge or liteloader boat since its out for 1.9
k, thank you for coming up with a valuable piece of advice / a solution to the problem.
I've just created a brand new instance, using the 16w15b, started the instance once, works #1, installed Meddle 1.3, add 0 problems and it starts directly, make sure you use the latest version of MultiMC (make sure you're on the stable update channel in the settings of MultiMC (not in the instance settings) also make sure you have 0 arguments in the instance settings at the java arguments, make sure there's no checks on that option.
Also be sure to uninstall all Java version of your PC and install only the latest one at java.com, beware during the installation, to uncheck two checkbox if you don't wan't annoying softwares installed at same time with Java.
Hi , I found the reason why this error happen.
I think is because in the "Util" class I've used
"TextComponentString" ( net.minecraft.util.text.TextComponentString )
this is 1.9 only class ( replace for 1.8.x like "IChatComponent" classes)
"Maybe" dynamicmapping can not resolve this class name so may cause this error.
So, my problem is changed to :
Can I write mapping file myself ?
How should I do ?
By the way, in MeddleAPI , MeddleClient.IDisplayGui has a method :
public abstract void onOpenGui(EntityPlayerSP player, String guiID, IChatComponent displayName, int i);
but IChatComponent is no longer existed in 1.9 , now is "ITextComponent" ( in net.minecraft.util.text )
Could I fork source code from MeddleAPI git and fix it myself ?
Thank you!
Just a quick update, since everything broke. DynamicMappings is updated for 1.9.3-pre2. You'll need to grab updates for LeafDecay and DoubleDoors as well since method signatures changed.
Awesome, for awhile I was sure you were too busy with other projects or real life and had somehow abandonned this project since now we have Forge for 1.9, will you also update your Backpacks mod for Forge in the future, for now in 1.9, there's not a lot of choices for backpacks in Forge, in fact I think there's none actually so you may make a lot of people happy.
Sorry for that. I've update AutoFish mod for meddle to 1.9.4. But I forget to upload files...
I've uploaded AutoFish meddle version for MC 1.9.4. Just go to the Mediafire share folder and download it.
You need update dynamicMappings to build 024 and ClientEventAPI to 1.3

https://www.codecademy.com/ is a great resource for learning how to code Java and other languages.

So is this forge compatible? If yes, then how to get it too work with forge?
Looking forward to Forge compatibility.

Either way thanks for this awesome set of mods.

just so everyone that wants to use this to have mods in snapshots this does work in the 1.RV-pre1 snapshot and it works well
Just tested it out, had 0 problems, and load fine on my side, also works #1 in a server.

Hi , I have a question for develope mod by using Meddle.
File structure:
In MainMod.class I have declared meddlemod annotation:
and I have code in MainMod.class :
The problem is when I press the key(199=HOME), Minecraft crashed with ClassDefNotFoundError "Ltw/mymod/Util;"
Seems Util.class is not loaded ?
Full stack trace : http://pastie.org/10813138
How can I solve this problem ? Thanks!
DynamicMapping and MeddleAPI are already installed.
BTW , in MANIFEST.MF I have :
MeddleAPI-Mods: tw.mymod.MainMod
Are you sure you were using IntelliJ or Eclipse? Both can help you resolve errors.
EDIT: Try importing Util and see what happens. Did you use Greddle?
EDIT2: Try changing "tw/mymod/Util" to "tw.mymod.Util". That could've been the problem.
MCreator is just for whiny people who can't get ForgeGradle set up properly.
I am using eclipse , the problem is not compile time.
"Ltw/mymod/Util;" is class signature in jvm.
I am using Util ( tw.mymod.Util ) to call that method.
So I think the problem is runtime.
But I don't know why Util.class is not loaded by java.
Meddle is a good lib, but currently no documention for develope,
so I decide to ask the author here.
Anyway, thanks for your reply!
