Have you ever wanted to completely remove a pesky mob from the game? Perhaps you're annoyed with Creepers? Or maybe you want to fix an exploit in your Mod Pack? Don't worry, this mod has you covered!
Note: For 1.7.10 or other downloads, click view all downloads.
This mod will allow you to list out all of the mobs you dislike in a configuration file, and when any of them try to spawn, they will be prohibited. You can add an unlimited amount of mobs to the list, including hostile and peaceful mobs. The configuration file is generated in /config/badmobs.cfg. To add a mob to this list, you have to write it's Savegame ID to the list of prohibited mobs. A list of these are maintained on the Minecraft Wiki. If you don't know the ID for a specific mob (like if it's from a mod), there is an Item called the "Entity Data Book" which can be found in the creative inventory. Right click on any mob, and the name will be revealed to you in the chat. This item is not craftable. Furthermore, this mod will remove all existing instances of prohibited mobs from a world.
This mod has support for in-game configuration editing! If you go to the Mod list from the main menu, and select the Bad Mobs mod in the list, you will be able to open the in-game configuration. This will give you a nice GUI which will allow you to edit the configuration file. Once you exit this GUI, the new banned mob list will be set in place, without the need to restart your game!
Possibly Asked Questions
Q: Will this mod work in Multiplayer?
A: Yes, this mod will work on servers and single player worlds. If you are a server administrator, you can set this mod to Server Mode which will make this mod a Server Mod, meaning players can connect to your server without this mod installed! However, this will remove the Entity Data Book from the game.
Q: How does this prevent spawning? Does it just kill the mob?
A: This mod does not kill a prohibited mob when it spawns, the actual spawning of the mod is prohibited. This prevents issues that may occur when players have other mods installed.
Q: Will this work with Golem type mobs, like the Snow Man? What about Spawners, or Spawn Eggs?
A: Yes, this will prevent mobs from spawning, even if they are spawned from a block structure, Mob Spawner, or Spawn Egg. This mod will prevent a prohibited mob from ever entering the world.
Q: Can I use this mod in my Mod Pack?
A: Yes, this mod is licensed using the MIT license.
Thank you for all of the support everyone. I have recently released version 1.0.1 of Bad Mobs for MC 1.7.10, it includes a small bug fix. I have also released version 1.1.0 for MC 1.8 which brings all of the mod to 1.8. Downloads can be found here.
I posted this on curse too I just don't know which gets checked more...
Ok, I need help. So as mentioned in the description this mod IS
multiplayer friendly but i can not for the life of me get this mode to
work on my server. Up until a couple of minutes ago I WAS getting the
"fatally missing blocks" error but i ended up reinstalling everything
and blah blah and now I no longer get that error. Unfortunately this is
worse cause now I have no lead on what the issue is! In multiplayer when
I add any of the monsters/mobs to the banned list the creature
disappears... but i just mean it's invisible. I can still hear the
monster and if I change game mode to survival I get attacked by the
monster, but i can't see it and can't fight it as well. I know it's
there because I have even locked it in a room with bad mobs not on, then
turned it on, can hear and be attacked by it, then I turned bad mobs
off again and there it is in the room. I honestly have looked so hard
for an answer but idk what to do. Oh I almost forgot, YES I did turn on
server mode. I've tried with killmode and server mode off, both on, one
on and the other off vice versa, and all bad mobs does is turn it
invisible. I literally only want this mode to turn off creepers cause I
don't mind to other monsters. Also my client and server forge versions
are the same and all the mods I have are the same versions in both
client and server. As I said I reinstalled everything a minute ago and
that was what fixed the fatal error i was getting. Please please help
idk what to do about this. The mod works on single player perfectly just
not multiplayer. And also there is no error or crash or anything so I
dont have a log to share that would be of any help.
One last thing i forgot to mention: I'm using 1.7.10 because all the
mods I want for my server only have that version in common so hopefully
this is still fixable...

If you want to use the mod on your server, you have to go into your config file and turn server mode on.
is there an option to disable specific mobs from spawning in specific dimensions? I want to disable aquatic abyss fishes from spawning in the twilight forest because they completely overrun the dimension and make it unplayable with 1600+ entities spawned the instant I enter. I don't want to remove them from the entire world, but just prevent them from spawning from other modded dimensions.
I tried the current 1.7.10 version and turned kill mode off but I'm still unable to spawn "bad" mobs. it also deleted those I had in an aquarium. I had to disable natural spawning because fish from aquatic abyss were spawning in the hundreds if not thousands in the abyssalcraft dimensions and twilight forest.

That is not how the mod is intended to be used. It doesn't prevent the mob from spawning, it prevents it from existing. Kill mode kills said mobs, when disabled it just prevents them from spawning.

I had to use it for a more serious problem because Aquatic Abyss isn't playing nicely with 3 other mods. Aren't disabling and kill mode basically the same thing?
Minecraft/Forge handles mob spawning in a counter intuitive way. Basically when something spawns, you can prevent it from spawning, but the mob that would have spawned still exists. It's just not in the world yet. If you were to remove the thing that prevented them from spawning, and reload the world, all previously prevented mobs will spawn in. This is where the killing part comes in. By killing the mob, you remove it from the spawn que, and it doesn't waste system resources. On a note about your earlier problem though, this mod ignores mobs which have a custom name, or have been name tagged. This allows you to spawn said mobs without having them destroyed.

I tried your suggestion with a custom name but it seems to have no effect. I'm using the 1.7.10 version, and latest forge. when I first enabled it, all targeted mobs that were name tagged were still affected anyway. Thanks for the suggestion though. it was worth a try.
I want to get rid of distorters in abyss dimension of nevermine. I added the identity name using the book you mentioned in creative. It said its name is nevermine.Distorter. However when I added in config, all it did was making the mob invisible. I am still getting pulled to the mobs but now am unable to see them.
I play on 1.7.10, on my mod pack. I also checked the kill option is on. I also tried appliying globally.
Are you using it on the server itself, or in your mods folder?
It's been so long I forgot I posted this but I had it in both my client
minecraft folder (C:\User\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\mods) and my server
folder (one on my desktop that I run my server from).
For some reason I have not been able to get this mod working in 12.2 I used it in 7.10 and loved it. The config in game will not open, it's grayed out. So I tried to enter into the config folder and the game is not reading that because everything still spawns. Any ideas why?
Tried the 1.7.10 version to get rid of Creepers. Maybe I'm missing something, but I still see creepers. Does it not get rid of mobs that spawned before the ban list was made?
Edit: Creepers are definitely still spawning. Just got blown up by one while working on my castle. Above ground, mind you, and there hadn't been any in the area the previous in-game day.
I have a question. I play with Orespawn, and I really want to use the Harry Potter Universe mod, but both mods have a Basilisk mob and it crashes every time I try to load the game. If I used this mod to remove the Basilisk from Orespawn, would it not crash?

Nice! Will this by chance work with mobs added from other mods? That would be awesome if it does.
ETA: Re-read your post, and it looks like it does! Sweet.
Nice! I'll keep this in mind.
