Hey Everyone,
Just releasing a cool little mod that I created. It adds a chance for worms to drop when you are digging dirt blocks. The tastiest part?! You can eat them! Don't let the wriggling animation put you off, they are good for you. * Now with Grubs, and Cactus Moth Larvae! *
Worms only fill half a hunger icon, and the saturation isn't good, but they can keep you alive if you find yourself lost without food.
Works in multiplayer as well!
Change Log:
v 1.1.2
- Mod Compatibility: Made a change to the way breaking logs are detected, extending compatibility to other mods. Tested with Biomes O'Plenty and Highlands mods.
v 1.1.1
- Feature: Added a chance for Cactus Moth Larva to drop from from Cactus. Note: They only drop from blocks you break, not cactus blocks that topple. So if you want to increase the chance of getting larva break the blocks from the top down. You can also cook the larvae.
v 1.1.0
- Feature: Added Grubs item, and chance for grubs to drop when breaking logs. Enable/Disable, chance, amount configurable in config file.
- Feature: Added ability to cook Worms and Grubs in the furnace to replenish slightly more hunger, improve saturation slightly, and give a minimal amount of xp.
- Change: Tweaked default drop chance for worms and grubs in config options.
v 1.0.1
- Feature: Added config file support. You may now enable/disable worms, set chance for worms to drop, as well as set min and max amount of worms per drop.
- Bug Fix: I realized there was some code I was testing to cause leaves to have a 50% chance to drop sticks when broken. Removed that code.
v1.0.0
- Release

I use 1.7.10 (Modded), so when I comment that I like a 1.8 mod, I will comment to downgrade to 1.7.10. I support no pics, no clicks. Suggestions that I think that are the best deserves a banner!
It is almost time to say goodbye to 1.7.10 because of the recent surge of big 1.9 mods.
Why MCreator sucks: jcm2606's file (doesn't open a new tab) He allows/welcomes anyone to link the file, so I put it here in my signature for people to know how MCreator functions. I thank jcm2606 (he's awesome) for creating the document/file and I'm just here to spread the word.
Sounds cool, ima download. Btw, if people keep making mods for 1.7.10 nobody's gonna update to 1.8. There are plenty of mods out there for 1.7.10.
Well, updating to 1.8 is hard. That's why mod devs are still at 1.7.10.

I actually have started modding in 1.8+ so I don't have a 1.7.10 environment set up yet. Maybe if there's enough interest I can in the future. I plan on releasing a survival mod that adds a set to tools before the vanilla ones and makes the earlier game a bit more challenging and interesting. This mod is the first part of that plan, because although I want to make things more challenging, nobody likes starving to death

Thanks, jadenPete! Yeah, I started modding in 1.8 to try and fill the gap since there aren't as many mods for it yet. I have a pretty decent computer, but 1.8 runs so much smoother with better FPS for me. I can actually ride a horse in 1.8
Just a thought, it would be kind of cool if you could add the possibility to combine the worm with a fishing rod to make a baited rod. It might give a slight increase to fish catching. :3
IE: It could slightly reduce the chance of getting 'junk'. And you would have to replace the worm after every fish/every couple of fish.
But I don't know how hard that would be to implement. So feel free to take it or leave it. XD

Someone else had suggested this as well and it's something I hadn't even though about. It seems like a really good idea and a good fit. I will consider it for sure. I'd have to look into to implement it as well.
Different types of worm? Such as leeches, tapeworms, roundworms, etc. And cooked worm?

If you decide to do 1.7.10 I'll def add this one. I love small little mods like this, which is why I have 122...
Also add sandworms to sand and clay?
I'll have to think about 1.7.10. I only started modding in 1.8 and that's what I'll probably be playing now. I also like small mods that do one thing and don't add too many random items, etc. I was actually making this as part of another mod/series that makes early survival more interesting and a bit more challenging. When I got the worms part done I realized that it should just be a mod on its own.
Different types of worm? Such as leeches, tapeworms, roundworms, etc. And cooked worm?
Eww, I think you are supposed to avoid eating tapeworms and roundworms. The cooked worms are no problem, that's something I was thinking about. I think next I'll do grubs from logs, as that should be very easy. Thanks for the suggestions

Update should be out later on today adding grubs from logs! Our same commitment to all natural ingredients, with a satisfying 'POP' when you bite into them.
Also being added are cooked worms and grubs with slightly better feeding/saturation. Just have to do a multiplayer test after work, but it should be fine. There have already been more than 115 downloads, which is pretty amazing to me!
Grubs original texture. The face has been redone to be more orange now.
This mod has a lot of potential, though I am guessing you are trying to keep it as small a mod as possible, but it would be really cool to have a farming method around this, sort of like bee's but maybe not as complicated, set certain worms into dark boxes of some sort with dirt and maybe they produce a material. Maybe there is a rare chance for the worm to drop from ores if the worms make ores. Though if you are trying to keep it small what might be cool is some sort of silkworm or tiny spider that you could get string from because string can be kind of a hassle when you don't want to kill spiders.
How about adding Dragon Fruit to cacti, as a lower tiered food source in deserts?
I mean, it's pretty easy to die in a desert (most likely when you spawn in one).
That's a good point, gvt123. I didn't want to add anything to sand, just because it doesn't seem right, but if you're lucky enough to come across a cactus then I guess you deserve a chance to live. To keep with the theme of the mod, maybe something like a cactus moth caterpillar (thanks google!) could work.

Yeah DymytriCG. My plan was to keep this mod pretty simple. Then perhaps build a mod for survival progression that works with it. Your idea sounds like a pretty cool one though. I'll think about it.
According to wikipedia, "Extracting raw silk starts by cultivating the silkworms on mulberry leaves. Once the worms start pupating in their cocoons, these are dissolved in boiling water in order for individual long fibers to be extracted and fed into the spinning reel." Sounds fun. I don't mind killing spiders personally, they gross me out

How about adding grubs to logs? Or maybe caterpillars and butterflies to leaves and flowers? BEST MOD EVER
That's actually a really cool idea. I'd have to make the drops more rare in that case I think. I may try that.
