I actually agree with you, perhaps shadow metal should be something obtained in the outer lands. (and I also agree with you with the void thaumaturge robes, they just look beast)
I think that might make the Shadow Tools obsolete, because it would be a bit pricey to make so many warpwood wand cores for a not very big upgrade. (Sorry, I made a mistake with the quoting and I don't know how to delete this post...)
Or, you know... make Shadow tools require Warpwood Wand Cores instead of sticks...
Wouldn't solve the weirdness of an easy-to-process overworld material being stronger than a completely manufactured material predicated on quite a substantial amount of research. It's just not at all an interesting material or process. You're literally just throwing shadowmetal and primordial pearls at it until it's better. All the addition of warpwood rods would do is push the problem further up the pipeline.

Well, it wouldn't make them obsolete. It's kind of hard to obsolete something when there's nothing better. Yes, it would be pricey, but that would be the point. It gives you something to do with you're resources when you're end-game and have the resources to spend. And if you look at my post above, it's actually quite a substantial upgrade.

The concept of Shadowmetal is that it is discovered very early game but you don't understand it. You only have a few uses for it because in an early game players hands it is basically useless. It was even hard to find a way to smelt it because it's structure was so fragile. In the later game, as you discover more complex magic Shadowmetal becomes progressively more useful but it is used in larger quantities, and becomes a catalyst for primal energy (the pearl).
Nonetheless, I DEFINITLY see your concern for the tools. They are very OP and easy to get. I will balance their abilities for the next patch.
I think that shadowmetal fortress armor should be made out of void fortress armor with the required shadowmetal armor piece (void fortress piece+items+shadowmetal armor piece= shadowmetal fortress)
The same with thaumium to void.
Maybe this could be more balancing

Is there any release date you can say for when fortress blades are implemented?

True, I think I will make this change.
Once I get around to implementing them fully.
Wait, Fortress Blades? What am I missing here, because those sound awesome.
Seeing how fortress armor is sort of samurai-ey, I'd imagine they're something like Thaumic Katanas!(Which sounds badass, by the way)
I posted pics of them (not fully working but the concept and the models and such) on my twitter. Go check it out, I'm @yorkeMC_
I cant seem to find the pictures/models anywhere... :/

Woah. Those look cool.
This has been bothering me for a while now, what is that green fire in the screenshot in the OP?
~~~~~~~~
Fall into the hands of sorrow
Drawn by the darkest bay
Walk into the pit of silence
I am the one calling your name
~~~~~~~~
Lol that is the floo fire from floocraft harry potter based transport mod that I use.
So, Uh...
Shadowmage's Robes.
Need I say more? Because I can if you wish.
