*cough* Vanilla already contains quarts, so therefor, with this mod installed, there will be 2 quarts blocks. *cough*
Also, I don't want to pester, but do you think this will be updated to 1.8? This is the best geology mod out there by far.
Hi 64M3_4DD1C7,
and thanks for your comment! We introduced new quarts blocks (some blocks contain gold or silver) and placed them similar to reality, like veins in the ground. The nether quarts is not something you would find in reality, but we have kept it since it is well known and one might miss it if it was removed. In addition, it can be good to know that we have not altered anything in Nether.
Finally a new update for all y'all! Changes listed below:
* New separate blocks: Sandstone, sandstone slabs and sandstone stairs
* Improved the smeltery user interface
* Made alpine catchfly really rare, but when found copper below is guaranteed
* The alloy furnace now supports ore dictionary
* Gravel is no longer generated in superflats
* Now able to smelt copper "dust" into ingots
* Smelting sphalerite now produces zinc ingots
Hej!
Hello Fyodisco,
We are happy to hear that you like it. We will continue to balance simple and fun with a higher degree of realism.
Ore Dictionary and isReplaceableOreGen are things that make it easier for different mods to work together. You don't have to know about them as a player but if you are interested and want to read about it you can find more information in the links at the end of the post.

I think this mod should change the name of nether quarts things to "Nether Quarts _____", because it could get confusing. That or make nether quarts disabled by default. Also, why is there a separate sandstone block? Also, I think every word in the names should be capitalized.

Thank you for your post! It's nice to hear that you like our mod! We look forward to hearing your ideas and welcome more questions, suggestions and tips from all of you!
Thanks for a amazing mod! I´ve played it a lot this summer... When I showed Better geo to the kids in fourth grade at my school they got really excited and some of them couldn´t wait to go home and try it:) I hope you will be able to upgrade to version 1.8 in the future. Also a cool thing to be able to build would be titanium submarines!
Hello Tower_sniper,
Thank you for your post! We're really happy that you like it, and that the fourth graders seemed to like it too! Titanium submarines would be really cool :-) Will present your suggestions and the story at the next meeting!
You need to get rid of your sand or make it compatible with minecraft and other mods. I found that you cannot grow reeds or cacti from minecraft and Plant megapack on the sand also the sand does not work with Mariculture oysters to produce pearls.

Hello Zellia_Torsema,
We are in the process of releasing a new version with the sand-issue fixed! We're sorry for the inconvenience!
When I'm looking for a geology mod I don't want technology recipes added in.
This is my feeling as well. There are so many mods that sound like they have awesome things I'd love to explore, but then they also end up with a ton of things that put me out of the base mindset of Medieval Fantasy that is a major component of what I love about the game. Over the years since I got into the modding scene, I have so often taken up new mods only to discard them as just too complex and modern to interest me... and I've been looking for a good realistic geology mod for AGES (all the ones I've run across have problems for my playstyle or my immersion), so it would make me depressed if this mod became too invested in modern (or even fantasy) tech.
And being able to turn off features doesn't fully compensate for that. It's like Mo' Creatures: I can systematically disable 90% of the animals, but that's not the same as having a mod built around a small number of animals instead of dozens, which is why I don't use that mod anymore.
The purpose of BetterGeo is not only to add realistic geology to Minecraft but also to emphasize how important geology is to our modern society.
I can understand that, and the idea of teaching not just geology but modern applications of geology, with an aim to interesting more people in the career choice and all. Still...
How about breaking it up into two parts.
Part one is better geology, in a manner that is compatible with other tech mods. It is only concerned with worldgen. This would be "BetterGeo-Rocks".
Part two is a better tech mod, that emphasizes how these things are used in various items. This would be "BetterGeo-Tech".
This is what very much interests me.
There was a time when Metallurgy was broken into modules. You had to install the core module, but then you could choose which of the other ones interested you. And if you just wanted utility ores and base minerals then that would be all that you put in the game, and you wouldn't run into a ton of fantasy ores everywhere. (Pam's HarvestCraft did a similar thing with her crops, trees, and decorations and such.)
Then they decided that it made more sense to make one gigantic mod, no modules. And I try not to begrudge them that, because it's their decision as to how much they want to maintain and whether they value this or that type of player enough to invest in pleasing them. Same with HarvestCraft, and Pam's got more than enough on her plate, so I can't be too annoyed with the decision to make it easier on her.
But this mod here, if it had two parts that built on each other, that would allow players who like the geology to enjoy it, and players who like the tech to enjoy it, without getting too complicated or too annoying to the players who want to avoid the tech stuff (and not even see it in their creative inventory). It seems like a fairly simple solution to make multiple groups of players happy.
Lastly: Would it be possible to make it so there's a compatibility patch or something for Ex Nihilo, so you could get your gold-panning goodies through using Ex Nihilo's sifters/sieves? It doesn't involve water but you do sit there and sift your way through a block (gravel, sand, dust, dirt, or soul sand) to find out what tiny goodies were inside it.

Hello Kilyle,
And thank you for your post! We appreciate your commitment and will try to answer as many of your questions as possible. We understand your concern that BetterGeo leans towards a tech-mod as well as a geology-mod and that it can get confusing at times. Our intentions with the mod from the beginning were to emphasize both geology as a science as well as the application of geology in society (through minecraft-equivalents of modern tech etc.), as the governmental project implies (read more on the first page). To do this we created tech that needed special minerals and metals that could be found in realistic ways in the game. One goal was that every mineral and metal had a purpose, i.e. they could be used for something in the mod. We are still working to achieve this goal.
As of now we are still a work-in-progress, but hope to leave beta soon. Our focus has been to create our vision of the mod, sadly little time has gone into working with compatibility with other mods. As we move forward from beta we will take your suggestions into strong account and I will present the idea of splitting the mod into 2 different branches on our next meeting. We will look at what we can do with the resources and time we have available.
Feel free to ask more questions or give more suggestions!
Cheers,
SGU/Pontus

Hello Papadepapa,
Thank you for your ideas! We think this is a really fun project too! We appreciate all the ideas you can come up with. We are working alot with trying to get more geology into BetterGeo and hope to be able to give you more minerals and metals. We also hope to give these resources a meaning in the game, such as part of a recipe or as a tool for something. It's a good idea to bring in more special minerals and metals that are good for very specific things!
We appreciate your commitment and will try to answer as many of your questions as possible.
I'm not certain if you meant "commitment" there or just "comment". "Commitment" might imply that I was emotionally invested in this mod and most eager to see it take form, and that I wasn't going to just give up on it and go find something that's more to my liking... all of which is true, though perhaps a little odd to say in your comment in that way. ("Comment" simply means the thing a person said.)
Also, now you've got me wondering what percentage of the Periodic Table is going to end up with a simple representation in-game. I mean, obviously there are bits that don't have a simple representation in real life (like, you can't just dig through the ground and find Helium... I assume), but now I'm very interested to see which sort of compounds will be easy to map to my head as "Oh, that's just (mineral one) and (mineral two), that's how those two happen in the real world."

We hope to provide the most common and important minerals and metals in the end, but as this is a project which is being done in a limited time period we cant promise anything. The thought-process you describe (minerals and their place in the bedrock) is exactly what we want to achieve with BetterGeo!
Hej Fyodisco!
We are planning to get more mine-related machines and items into the mod in the future, many of the things you mention such as concentrators and drills are on our to-do-list! We hope to include some of these things in a future patch. We're open to more suggestions of things you would like to see in BetterGeo, ask us and we'll see what we can do!

Hi BetterGeo team, what's new lately? Looking forward to updates now that I'll have time to play again.
Welcome back Smithcraft1!
We're getting back to speed after all the vacations. Working on leaving beta asap. Expect v1.0 very soon!
