How do you breed the corgis in order to gain the shepherding ability and are there any other abilities that need to be bred for?
I have a ton of questions that are not covered in the Instructions / Q and A. Instead I had to read through the change log to figure out most of what I know, which still isn't a lot. The staff and hydrant should be in items with the dog whistle and dog house.
I suspect that the "PotionEffect" in the crash report is indeed Taint affecting the dog in some kind of way, such as corruption. I'm not sure why this would cause a crash, but I'd love for it to be debugged by someone if possible, especially with Thaumcraft being such a major mod! Something I feel may be key to it all is this: "Other mobs such as horses, wolves, and spiders, have no tainted form, and will become Thaumic Slimes. (Sometimes big ones!)" taken from here. Does DoggyStyle have some code in place to make dogs immune, or is there something in the code that gets confused when corrupting a dog?
In the meantime I think I have found a way to absolutely stop any possibility of Taint appearing altogether, which isn't an ideal solution but it's better than disabling DoggyStyle.
Yeah, that was my thought too. I played with Thaumcraft a little while ago (I was playing a modified version of Etho's modpack) and I actually did have DoggyStyle installed while playing, but I never encountered Taint-- hence no crashes, I guess.
This has me curious now. I might try to decomp Thaumcraft and DoggyStyle and just take a look at the code, see if I notice anything. I've done a bit of coding myself, so I might be able to catch the issue. Idk. We'll see.

Dogs should spawn naturally in the world. You place a fire hydrant and occasionally dogs will spawn near it (I forget the recipe offhand, but if you're playing modded I would recommend a recipe utility, especially if you play heavily modded like I do. CraftGuide and NEI are both very helpful).
I think they haven't updated the breeds for a while-- but I can confirm that the new breeds are in game.
You have to feed them, and breed them for multiple generations (I think two... don't quote me, I haven't played with it much yet.). As far as I know, no other abilities yet, but I think they're planned.
I don't think there's a wiki for the mod. At least, if there is, I've never seen it.

Hello! all the dogs spawn in sat down? Yeah just wondering how to fix this!
Do they get up and move around normally? Dogs occasionally do sit down and/or lie down, so if they're not stuck like that it's normal. I'm not sure if they spawn in a sitting position or not, but it's possible...

I turn around to make sure my dogs are following, and find that one or more have totally cloned, same appearance, name, and everything! Has anyone had this issue or have any advice? I am playing on LAN with a friend, who has not experienced the same glitch.
Secondly, I thought (based on what I've read in the thread) that it is possible to summon your dog to its doghouse, wherever it is, by right-clicking the house with a whistle. Should this be possible, because it doesn't seem to work for me.
Lastly, will your dogs attack mobs that you hit while they're following you, or only when they're roaming (because they usually don't attack when following). Also, what is the difference between 'stay' and 'lie down'?

I've had cloning issues in 1.7 before, but not with DoggyStyle. It seems to be some sort of lag thing...
I searched the thread, but I didn't see any mention of a dog door. This surprised me. Are there any future plans for a craftable doggy door?
It would be very useful to have such a door in the wall of the house so you don't have to wait for your dog to follow you before you can close your door behind you. Or on livestock pens so the corgis could enter and leave whilst the livestock are trapped inside.
Oh, I found out that 1st generation bred corgis have the herding skill. That was under question earlier. So your first corgi puppies will have it.
And something that I've discovered that can be a bit of an annoyance is that two dogs will try to herd that same animal. If you send two corgis out to bring in cows they'll both go for the nearest cow. Perhaps it could be looked into for a future update to fix it so one dog won't try to herd an animal that is already being herded by another dog?
Also I was wondering about herding horses. They can be awkward to manage when you have no leads and just 1 saddle. Maybe a golden carrot could be used for the herding staff.
Are you ever going to make it so that different breeds can have a puppy?

Mutts or hybrids like Labradoodles?
I know that you're asking the modder, but this is giving me ideas.
Mutts might work in the form of a generic modeled dog with a generic bark that results from any mixing of breeds. It might have a white foot or chest or have some other random marking like mutts tend to have since purebreds generally come in symmetrical markings, solid colors or are covered in patterns. Small, medium, or large would depend of course on the size of the breeds. If two dogs of differing sizes are bred then to make it easier maybe the pup will always be the size of the female or maybe the pup can't be more than one size larger or smaller than the female. Mutts can be bred to purebreds and other mutts but they can only produce more mutts and don't have any abilities, but they might have a somewhat alright set of stats, not being especially strong or weak in any one group. The neutral dog. Mutts make some of the best dogs so personally after all of the dogs I've had and known it would feel almost like an insult for mutts to receive absolutely horrible numbers.
Adding a series of hybrids would be more difficult, but one or two hybrid breeds in the future would be cool. A series would require a whole new set of models with stats and while there are lots of hybrids out there only so many really make any sense for this mod. For example the previously mentioned Labradoodle wouldn't work because Labradoodles are a cross between a Labrador and a Standard Poodle. The big hunting poodles. The ones in DoggyStyle are toy poodles. So in order to have a proper hybrid the required breeds must be available to create them.

When you give a dog a bone, a naming menu comes up with the dog's gender displayed. If you cancel out of that menu, the dog will not be tamed.
No, the dog is still yours. I'm not sure off the top of my head if it will fight back or not, but you can always send it home to reset that.
That shouldn't happen, as the data that saves the dog to the unloaded chunk includes what mode it's in. If you can find a way to reproduce that consistently, I'll look into it.
There was a bug that made dogs sink like rocks which I think is fixed in the latest version. The safest option is always to have dog houses though, then they can never die.
This is by far the most effective way to ensure you never get what you want.

I'm not sure how much the mod time wants us to post suggestions, but in case you guys are interested here are a few of my thoughts. Don't feel obligated or anything-- I'm not going to be offended if you don't add this stuff or whatever (and I totally get that modmaking is complicated and takes a lot of time and effort! What you guys have done so far is amazing, and the mod is already amazing! ), but in case you do want ideas here are a few
More coats for existing dogs/any new breeds (if you guys want, I could even make and send in some textures... I do a little texturing in my free time )
The ability to increase stats through breeding (which would encourage people to breed dogs more, though I know you're already adding skills that work via breeding and stuff). I.e. if you have two parents with 17 health each, the baby could have anywhere from 17-20 health or something.

I'm trying to find a way to remove dog houses that have been assigned to dogs. I placed them quickly and now I want to move them. Problem I can't destroy them. I tried everything. Even the empty ones don't seem to be movable (I read the instruction in 1st post and tried that already)...

I know I have probably asked before, and I don't mean to be a pester the Gold Vane, but please add a docile mode to dogs. I'm assuming many of us have a problem with our dogs killing our other beloved mobs, so if you could consider adding in the mode? I don't mean to beg, again.
You can transition between Aggressive and Docile mode. It could be just one button and you can click the button to switch between the two modes.
Docile Mod: Your dogs will not attack anything, even if you hit it.
Aggressive Mode: Your dog will attack any mob you hit.
Where do you get dogs?
