A question! How do you know how much health your dog has? I know you can check hearts, but does that show the health it's at or just the overall amount of health it has? I'm thinking the latter, correct me if I'm wrong.
Also, a fun mod to combine this one with: MCA. It makes for a very realistic MC experience, I'd say. Plus, it's fun to run around a village with dogs AND people

In honor of mother's day, we've just released a special update! (Yes that's right, two updates in one day) (depending on your time zone)
Puppies will now follow their mothers around constantly. If the mother goes in her dog house, the puppy will follow. Puppies cannot be told to sit or lie down or follow or roam, they will only follow their mothers. Puppies can also not get their own dog houses until they grow up. Finally, since nobody wants to orphan their puppies, a mother will not have any puppies unless she has a dog house.
I thank you for your amazing work on the dogs! but I wanted too know if shih tzu's are on your list? I have only had them and they have very strong personalities I hope they may be added soon.
Hello! First of all, I'd just like to say this is a really cute mod, and even though I'm not a huge dog person IRL, I really like having all of these adorable canines in my world! Sometimes they like to attack things to defend me even if I set them to "stay" or "lie down"(while retaining the pose of their respective stance... it's kind of silly-looking), and I've had dogs on "stay" randomly change to "roam", but overall the mod is super neat and I think it has a lot of potential.
I have a question, though:
Are you planning to implement a way to change a dog's stats from the default-per-breed? Kind of like horse breeding, so the puppy would have different stats than its parents, with possibilities of certain traits being better than the parents, and maybe the chance could increase depending on which "generation" the parents are from(I noticed there is a system to show which generation they are from in the info screen, so maybe it could utilize that value? I don't know if that would be possible...)
Wall of text with ideas incoming!
I think a cool way to implement it might be like... wild dogs/"egg-born" dogs always have stats that are similar to any other egg-born/wild dogs of the same species, which may be slightly lower or higher depending on the individual dog. Then, when you breed the dog with another of its species like the mod currently has implemented, there is a chance that one of its stats will increase or otherwise change, while others are inherited as an average from its parents' stats.
It also might be cool if there was a system where you can "level up" your dog, so whenever you kill monsters and the dog helps you by attacking them, some small amount of the experience you pick up is transferred/distributed between the dogs currently following you. This could maybe increase one of its stats by a small amount at random whenever it levels up, to a maximum that would be pre-determined depending on how you'd want the mod to be balanced. A portion of these "level up" increases could *maybe* be passed on through breeding(if used like the suggestion I made earlier), but since you can only level up so many stats until your dog is maximum level, you'd have to keep breeding and raising dogs to increase the overall stat capacity.
Like... say that I have a dog with 2 attack, 4 health, 3 speed, and 5 recovery(I just picked those stats at random but roll with me here!). I level it up through combat or other means, and every level, it gains like, maybe +0.25 of a random stat. If the maximum level a dog could achieve is 15(I'm thinking maybe it'd be 30 to be consistent with the max enchantment level, but I don't know if that would be too much stat-wise!), then if you got SUPER LUCKY and all of your stat increases landed on the same stat - let's say it landed on attack, here - then the "base" attack would still be 2, but there would be an additional amount of value to the stat from leveling up(in this case, it would be 0.25 * 15, which is 3.75). So, if your dog got to level 15 in this example, the dog's total attack would be 5.75 because it would be 2 (+3.75). This is, of course, if none of its other stats were chosen at random to be increased while leveling up.
Perhaps to balance breeding, only a portion/percentage of the 'level up' stat increases would be calculated with breeding stats. It could still be an increase, but a smaller one.
If I bred my dog with 2(+3.75) attack with another dog who had an attack of 2(+2.50) from leveling up, I would add those values together and then average them out. 10.50(the total of the dogs' attack stats) divided by 4(because there were technically four stats; two from each parent, the 'base' and 'level-up' stats. The math formula for figuring this out could probably be changed, this is just a theoretical example!), the puppy's base attack would turn out as 2.625(could be rounded to 2.6 or so, depending on how the stats actually work internally). This base stat total is more than either of the parents individually, but still isn't incredibly drastic of a change, so you'd have to continue breeding and raising dogs if you wanted to increase the stat more.
In the event that a dog does not have any level-up increases in a particular stat while it is a parent, it wouldn't factor in the missing "level up" stat into the equation; if one parent had level up stats, it would put 2 stats into the equation(base and level-up), while the parent who does NOT have level-up stats(so basically its value is 0) would only contribute its base stat. And since there were only 3 stats total added together, the sum would be divided by 3. If neither parent has level-up stats in a given trait, it would only add together and average out the base stats(which would be 2 * stat divided by 2, which should basically result in just an average of the two base stats without any increase and possibly a decrease if one of the parents' stats is much lower than their mate's counterpart stat!)
I feel that this stat equation would be used for every stat on the dog upon breeding, and maybe there would be a hard cap of how much the stats can increase in total to prevent the stats from being raised too dramatically in one breeding session. I'm not entirely sure how this would be calculated, maybe something like "the stats individually cannot be increased more than a value of 0.75 or 1 total per stat, even if the average of the parents' stats results in a base stat that is higher than this cap"?
I think there should also be a "cap" on how strong a dog species' stat can be in any given value, depending on the base values they have in the wild/when they come from a spawn egg. This way, while a dog could be customized through breeding, a breed that starts out with a strong attack in the wild would always have a higher cap for their attack stat than a dog who started with a lower attack stat in the wild. Different dogs would have different advantages to their statistics and so you'd be encouraged to raise a variety of dogs to figure out your preferences for your play style, while still being somewhat customizable.
I know cross-breeding has already been talked about, and that it would be difficult to implement, but if you ever find a way to figure out how to do that, it would allow potential for more stat customization in the future by crossing a stat from one breed with one from another species. I'd be happy with just any kind of stat-increased breeding at all, though. =)
You're welcome to use or ignore any of these ideas at will, it's just my own thoughts on the subject! Thought it might be helpful to show my line of thinking instead of just saying "dog stat increases via breeding plz" or whatever.

Thank you for a really detailed outline for breeding! To be perfectly honest we've always known we wanted to do more with getting stronger dogs over the course several generations. You did all the grunt work and gave us a good starting put. I once we start getting into level building and so on I will pick your brain!
I love love love cats! I rescue orphan kittens and raise them until we can find their forever home! Once this mod gets more content I will be working on cats. TONS AND TONS OF CATS
2.i thought it would be unique to 'tell' it a command
3. i didn't know that it was suggested that many times
You are correct dogs do have litters, sometimes quiet large litters. But for this mod breeding will become a big part of getting stronger dogs. to avoid having a bunch of unwanted dogs running around we are going to keep it as one puppy per breeding. Lucky for us breeding is simple and can be done over and over.
I dont care if something gets suggested a million times, it just lets me know that there is a lot of interest in the concept! So please feel free to add any kind of input. I really look forward to seeing different ideas everyone has to bring to the table! Never be afraid to ask or suggest!
Ok so I have 2 dogs one is a Pitbull and one is an Australian Kelpie my second dog is very precious to me and is rare and uncommon so I would really appreciate if she could be added in? (P.S. My Aussie Kelpie Is black with white paws and my pitbull is black with white on his snout and stomach)

it would be nice if this mod also worked with Vanilla Wolves,
is there any way to do that?
I assume it would take away compatibility from Vanilla Wolf altering mods like Sophisticated Wolves, but that's not much of a loss for Wolves that won't actually die
Sick mod! It's probably my favourite mod I've ever played! I would like border collies and maybe pugs added. It would also be quite cool to add tricks. Like rolling over, blah blah blah. Another suggestion is maybe tennis balls and other toys.
Maybe check out the mod review I did on it! I'm not very good at mod reviews, but I gave it a shot
Even if we reploids are destined to join the scrap heap when that evolutarary step does comes about. We still have to fight, not only against mavericks but against our own destiny as well
Could you please add in a maltese or a small version of a poodle?
I have a maltipoo and he is turning 1 on May 12

can u add a dashhound?

i think that some good dog breeds to add would be:
pitbull
pug
rottweiler
greyhound
a mutt
and a dog fish
ideas(only ideas): *they play fetch when you drop sticks.
*you have to care for them (like brushing/bathing)
*They can have litters
*they can learn tricks, when you type in chat like "Beg" they beg
*dachshund *BORDER COLLIES *Pugs
These are just some ideas i thought would be cool
