Try including the customitems: part.
Oh, also. What are you doing this for? As a fun thing or for a modpack? I have always wanted to make a unique modpack with quests and stuff but could never do it due to lack of ideas or motivation.

AHA! I think I see the problem!
1. the liquid name for nova water needs to be Nova_water not nova_water in the jsonables file.
2. you put "resource":"customitems;nova_water", in the jsonables config. It should be a colon (:) not a semi-colon (;)
I will do one last test to see if these are your problems Custom Items does not support the latest version of forge, which version are you using of forge?

I believe that TC uses the new fluid registry system while jsonables and customitems use the old one. See if you can ask the custom items creator if he uses the new forge fluid registry.
call me dumb but, i have no idea how to make this work, even when i copy paste something you mentioned before to be valid it still doesnt work, i guess ill just stick to modtweaker and renaming and recoloring of existing materials into what i would like them to be...
wanted to try out this mod to see if it can ease what ive been doing in modtweaker, like mentioned on this forum i copied a template and put it through that json validator, and no matter what i do its not valid according to it. i then copy-pasted what feba66 posted before, the entire thing, changed data to materials and changed the name/material used to something random, thinkered around with it a bit and since i could get anything out of it just gave up and returned to using modtweaker.
well, there isnt much you can look at, but it would help if you showed me how your file looks like, then i can use it as a template and figure out what i should do.
i tried checking what i was doing in that json validator but it kept telling me i need to put something like '{','[' after materials:, and ive tried to do what it wants but it kept telling me that its not valid, and that's where i gave up...
btw, is it possible to add abilities like poison and wither to a material? kinda like what metallurgy metals have?
Still Nothing. Also I can't seem to be able to cast things. What do I type if I, for example, want to cast lava into something? Do I write "minecraft:lava" or "liquid:lava" or even something else?

Could you give me your {JSONables} file and the Custom Items file?

Have you actually got this working? Would you maybe share your code? I can't for the life of me figure this out...
It's pronounced "chip".
So I actually got it working now, but it says "material.netherstar" on the tooltip. How can I change that?
It's pronounced "chip".
Alright thanks. How exactly did you do that?

Thanks, I figured it out.... do you know how to make a fluid? To be cast into weapons?

Why does this not Work? It's in the right Place and the JSON is valid.

You use a semi colon (;) instead of a colon (:) between ItemShard and 1
Tried that too, doesn't work either

OH IM SO SORRY, I FORGOT A D IN MY REPLY! I meant to say:

I have changed the json item format, it is now "<modid>:"<unlocalized name> <meta> *<stacksize>" for instance
"minecraft:dirt 1 *5" will be, dirt, with a metadata value of 1 and a stacksize of 5
Thank you!

Welp, I got the Fire Shard working, what's wrong now?
