Delerium is a telefragging bs final boss in the binding of Isaac afterbirth+. So many tears shed at his fight... either way, the idea of a swarm of entities forming one is pretty cool. I just wasn't sure how it would work is all. But certainly a cool idea.
What I mean is, for, like, a map or something, can I set up some command blocks to summon those beams in certain locations, for dramatic effect (ex. some ritual thing)?

I am not the god of Minecraft! Bow down to me anyways!
This probably would be impossible without multiple hit-boxes, but I decided to post this idea anyway. I don't have a name or much of an appearance, but it would be kind of spider-like in structure, and have very long legs, and a mouth/stinger on the end of a stalk hanging from the body. I was sort of basing the shape on a Silt Strider from Morrowind, but there would be some major differences.
When angered, it stands over the player, trapping them in a roughly 3x3-4x4 block area, and using it's long legs as 'cell bars.' The mouth/stinger part then swings around, trying to attack the player. A combination of dodging and quick attacks would be required to defeat the creature, and escape. The creature would target any other mobs that were trapped with you, and they could be used as a distraction. Mobs could not get in or out of the 'cell' created by the creatures legs, so once the creature has trapped you, there's no help from the outside.

I was trying to fit Heimskr's speech into this place, but it wouldn't fit.
That's a really good point, I didn't think about that. Something so powerful should not be based on RNG to acquire. This might seem a bit weird, but what if you had to offer it Foliath seeds. Foliaths themselves aren't easy to find, and the seeds aren't nearly as easy to get as normal raw meat. I could very easily see Frostmaws being omnivores. but that still leaves the issue of finding a baby Frostmaw. Every other randomly generated structure in Minecraft (In vanilla at least) can contain some valuable loot, though they are dangerous. Just waltzing into a cave with only a cub inside entails no real danger, and a tamed Frostmaw would be much more useful than any other tamed (vanilla) mod. I don't like the concept of having to kill the parent(s) yourself to tame one, because it doesn't seem proper. At least, it shouldn't be that simple. Parents have to feed their young, so the mother (assuming Frostmaws breed and raise their young like bears, which seems best to me) would have to go get food. Whilst the mother is away, you could sneak in and offer the Frostmaw cub food (whether it's Foliath seeds, meat, etc.). If the mother does manage to see you, you have to either
a. Stay and fight, but killing a grown Frostmaw would probably be nigh impossible in melee combat
b. Run for your life.
You'd have to feed the cub consistently, say, once per in-game day, for one in-game week. If you miss a day, you have to restart the entire process.
For the caves, they would be relatively rare and maybe only found in Ice Spike Plains. This are rare biomes on their own, so finding a cave would not be easy. Once you feed the baby Frostmaw enough, when you go to exit the cave it will follow you, but don't stick around, because if the mother comes home to find an empty cave, she won't be happy. As a side note, there would probably only be one cub per cave.
I don't feel that foliaath seeds make sense. Sorry.
I'm afraid that encountering the baby near another frostmaw disjoints the actual frostmaw encounter, which I'm afraid I cannot share at the moment.
Currently, the best idea we have in my opinion is that you'll encounter a baby independently and have to give it a crystal from another frostmaw to tame it.
2. Attacks: Bites, Shoots Fireballs, and slaps enemies with magma coated vines.
3. Design: Looks like a regular Foliaath, except looks like it got fused with a magma block, plus magma vines that appear out of where the leaves should be.
4. Drops upon death: Magma Foliaath seed, Magma Scale (Can be used to craft magma sword), and 1-4 Magma Blocks.
5. Planting: To grow a Magma Foliaath you need to feed it Nether Warts or Bones.
Thanks for reading, hope you like it and hope I spelt Foliaath right.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't plan to add new versions of existing mobs.
Cool mob idea but I don't think BobMowzie is interested in regurgitating old mobs and changing them a bit, with the exception of a competing barakoa tribe but I'm sure the two are going to be much more different than the Magma Foliaath and regular foliaath.
Not even. The new tribe will not share any assets from the Barakoa.
I still hope that obtaining and taming a baby frostmaw will be available to those in creative mode however. For me, the barakoa don't actually spawn in my savannah biomes, so I've been manually creating the villages and using world-edit and such to make the process a bit easier, but at least I could make the villages manually with relative ease. If frost-maws become RNG then it will be a nightmare to mess around with their mechanics and try out new things with them in creative (which is what I like to do with new mods that I install)
Oh, that sounds like an issue. Are you absolutely certain? Are you using any other mods? Would you mind flying around some worlds with seeds spawning you near savannas?
Yeah, if I add the baby frostmaw, it will have its own spawn egg.
so the crab boss idea is good It just needs similar styles in attack?
It's not that simple. In its current state, the mob lacks a unified and interesting theme and justification. It's very miscellaneous. It needs much more thought and development, sorry.
I like the idea of a swarm/single target merge. My original thoughts were perhaps a locust or scarab beetle swarm, all attacking individually. But after killing a set amount, or maybe one swarm leader, they all come together to form a powerful entity. Say, a warrior figure slightly taller than the player model making advances towards the player, until a certain amount of damage is done to it. Then I imagine he bursts into a fewer amount of scarabs. After killing more, they would form a smaller, yet quicker creature. The second form could be a dragonfly style creature, flying around the player, occasionally diving the player. The third form could be a sort of underground reptile, perhaps it could jump from the ground after stalking the player for a bit, trying to hit the player. I see this final form as being too quick and agile to be hit by the player, but rather it would be damaged by blocking its attacks with a shield (or with a sword be it in an earlier version than shields), injuring it. The boss could drop one of three items, say a unique shield, sword, or bow, depending on a little RNG. I doubt it would be possible to get the same item twice. Id love to entertain the idea of a boss requiring all combat methods. Form 1 could only be struck by melee attacks, form 2 would require ranged weapons, and form 3 would require shields in a sort of aggressive defensive. The thought of the Axe of a Thousand Metals being used to cleave through the smaller, swarm segments of the fight is a fun one too. I dunno, it seemed like a different approach on boss fights, and that's what this mod seems best at. Hope you enjoyed pouring through my overcomplicated ideas for an enemy. I imagine this mob appearing in the desert.
This is really cool, thanks! The mechanic presents a coding challenge, but I think it's doable.
How about some kind of "mimic swarm" thing? Where the single creatures on their own aren't much of a threat, but when grouped together, they mimic various creatures?
Well, if they simply copy other mobs, then I won't be actually adding any new mobs by adding this mimic. Perhaps if the forms it could take on were unique to it's mechanics?
I don't believe Mowzie likes using pre existing creatures, fictitious or otherwise, with things like terraria, dark souls, etc. having a sort of chest mimic. And Pokémon's ditto too. Not to mention, with the disappointment of delerium still fresh in our minds, I'm not too eager to see another recycling bin enemy. But the morph mod is pretty popular, maybe an enemy with similar abilities could be fun.
I wouldn't consider a "mimic" to be an established creature. I only have that policy to avoid people asking me to add plain griffins, direct characters from undertale, or extra large lions, to name a few past suggestions.
I'm not talking about an individual entity. I'm talking about an actual group of entities that come together and make a rough image of a monster or something. Not an exact copy.
Imagine some kind of cloud, or swarm of creatures rearranging itself to be shaped like a large zombie. Now imagine that zombie creature still looked like it was made of cloud, or a swarm.
That is what i'm talking about here.
Even so, you are certainly right about Mowzie and pre-existing mobs. Either way, I wasn't aware of that many examples of a shape shifting creature in media.
Also, whats delerium?
Ohhhh. That sounds just like the locust idea described above.

Yeah, I'm having trouble thinking about a good way to add this in game and in code. I quite like the mechanic, though.

Yeah, if I add the baby frostmaw, it will have its own spawn egg.

Just out of curiosity-taken-to-the-extreme, is that sprite in the video's thumbnail going to be a thing in the mod or is it just there as some sort of mascot for the mod?
I just fought a Wroughtnaut, that was amazing, absolutely spectacular mod.
This one time I built this room in this dungeon i was making that had two of those guys to act as mini-bosses. I made the arena look fancy/medieval thown room, with the two Wroughtnaut at the other side of the room looking like simple statues. It was an awesome fight XD

That does sound like a good idea, the 'naut's original room is a little too plain.
It's tricky: the room wouldn't fit underground well if it were too large, and if it were too ornamented, players would be rewarded with valuable blocks just by finding it. Besides, the fight is specifically designed around a room of that size.
I love the betweenlands! Betweenlands, Mowzies mobs, Botania. Personal favorites (not in any particular order). I take it then you're somehow affiliated with jurassicraft? But regardless, is it safe to assume we'll be seeing frostmaw soon? Between waiting for this, terraria, and doomfist to hit live, I think I might snap...
This mod reminds me a lot of terraria, and in all the right ways. The unique enemies, unique drops, interactive developers, and Zelda references. One of my favorite methods of attack in terraria is the projectile fired from a sword. Botania has a similar function with the (terraria reference) terra blade, and the former holy excalibur (maybe also terraria reference?) sword. I would love to see a similar thing in this mod, with it's own unique twist I'm sure. Though I'm not quite sure what frostmaw will bring, I feel like perhaps an item used in crafting unique new items, or an item dropped directly from the frostmaw are reasonable guesses. But I like the thought of sword that, when swung, fires an icy projectile. Side note, do you plan to disclose any plans on where geomancy is going to be implemented? The wait is always the hard part.
Another question: finding the different enemy locations is usually quite a daunting task. I like the way the iron wroughtnaught is found, extrautils unstable ingot block helps, but barako can be difficult to track down. Could a method of finding him possibly be implemented? Like maybe sparing one barakoa out of the group would cause them to run away towards barako? Or maybe wearing a barakoan mask would allow you to impersonate one in order to gain access to barako? I couldn't be less experienced in coding, so I'm not sure how difficult any of this would be, or how well it would work.

I don't know much about command blocks, but they are regular entities. You should be able to spawn them using the summon command.
Mowzie's Mobs is already full of secrets.

Barakoa not spawning in savannas had sonething to do with forge, didn't it? I seem to remember this coming up earlier in the thread.
Praise be Ro-naza, greatest among the thaumaturges!
Just out of curiosity, do you have any other mods or side-projects you plan on (or are currently) working on?
I've been around at least 5 savannah biomes entirely. Are they that rare, or is it just my game?
These are the mods I have installed :
Damage Indicator
World Edit
Mekanism
Animania
Waystones
Galacticraft
Just Enough Items (JEI)
Mowzies Mobs
LLibrary
I fixed this issue. It was a Biome Dictionary bug.
I contribute slightly to mobs in the Betweenlands mod. I highly recommend you check it out!
Edit the config file and set the Barako spawnrate to 1 (lower numbers are more common). Recreate the savanna world and check again, please.
Do my eyes deceive me? Or do I see that Frost Maw already in the trees?
