That sounds a lot harder to do, not letting it go through blocks. Like, it could get stuck if a player drops down blocks in front of it. (unless you do the Enderdragon thing).
But keeping the mob in the sky sounds smarter. That Destroyer is cool and all, but what happens if it is fought near bedrock? It could fall out of the world if it follow's Terraria's pathing logic.
Well, I'd have it check the space in front of it, and if it can't fit, it will turn around.
As an idea for a mob, what about one that's afraid of light? It would try to attack the player in darkness, but run from light and fire. This would challenge the player by making them carry light sources with them.

I was actually going to post a mob suggestion like that so I guess I'll post it now
I recently had a birthday and the day after my birthday, I carried cake to school and my classmates hunted me down for slices of my cake.... so that had me thinking of a monster I drew when I was little.
Mob Description: Time for your Just Deserts, It was a basically a pink and white cake with three unlit candles on its head, no eyes, a large mouth with strawberry teeth, large cake like hands and stubby little cake legs.
Mob Name:The Sweet Lie ('The cake is a lie' meme + Sweets)
Weakness: Well Light, It will run away from light or jump over the light sources and is weak to fire.
Attacks: Sugar Rush: Like a bull, it would run at you so you have to move out of its way
Sweet Dreams: It throws a cupcake that damages you, gives you speed and nausea as well as a slow poison effect, teach you to eat sweets before bed
Bad Candy: It gives you nausea and poison
-Its strategy is based off lowering your health through potion effects and finishing you off when you're not paying attention a sort of alchemist mob like a witch

A tall, (8 blocks) gaunt creature that is jet black, with a starry, ender portal like animations over it that is very strange and trip to stare at. It has 2, large, white eyes and giant claws. It is a creature that fears light, and only exists at night, or hiding in the corners of a large cave. It stalks the player, trying to stay out of sight. Should the player see it, their screen will shake a huge piercing shriek will sound, and it will pursue the player. If the player turns too it, it will teleport behind to the player, giving the effect of already being right behind the player, picks the player up, and screams with incredible force, applying every bad potion affect in the game besides slowness. If the player doesn't hit the creature in its vulnerable eyes or press shift, the creature will swallow the player where they will quickly die in its stomach. At this point, survival is impossible without a killing blow from another player. To kill it, it must be blinded by stabbing its bulging white eyes. Once one eye is poked, it will shriek skyward, before pursuing the player even faster, while slowing the digestion of any other player inside. If another player gets eaten, the other player will instantly die. When the other eye is poked, it will shriek skyward again, and chase the player at an even faster pace, but with incredibly decreased percussion. At this point, one player must eighth already be inside the beast or must enter the creature. Its skin turns red where it was previously black, but the starry effect persists. Once a player is inside, the still black heart is revealed. It was above the player eaten the whole time, assuming a player was already eaten, but it has just now become vulnerable. The heart itself has 30 hp. The heart must be destroyed, and the beast will release on more screech, and will dissolve into dust. The dusts can be used for what you desire to make them do. If you die in the creature, your items will be stuck in the creature until it dies, your stuff despots, or it dissolve into nothing (Not dust) in the sunlight. If it approaches a light source in the night it will dissolve despite the fact it is still night. Thus, a torch can be used as a last ditch source for retrieving your items. If you simply never look at it, it will not attack and just whisper to you.
Also, can you make the current mobs not turn red in their death animations? It would make it seem a lot more realistic.

Sir Porky III, Snally Ted, Skelly, Bob Steven Allela, Baby Porky, Sparklez the Enderman, Bobeel the Door Pig, Witchtilda, Slimey, Gildwam, Sally, Ted, and the Mailman's dog/endermite all say that LYCANITES MOBS is the best mod. It's settled.
Tested it, you morph into the corresponding mob, except when you kill foliath, you morph into his unaggressive form, meaning only a little plant top, you don't get any abilities of the mobs though...

Lol, I wondered about morph mod compatibility with the models.

No, thanks. Sorry.
I haven't tried, but I'm really not sure that it would be possible. I don't think it would be worth the time to figure that out.
Grimoire of Gaia has one that will just try to eat you and that's it.
I mean like the mimic you encounter in the dark souls games with the same behavior but with different animations, and a different model but still having the chest like appearance with spider like appendages for movement and attacks by biting

That's pretty close to what the one in GoG does. I was quite aware of what you were requesting.
sure there's one already made but some of them explode and spawn mobs but that's not what i want for minecraft, just a simple mimic mob that's all
Mimics are cool but..don't you think there kinda...boring. But if you want a mimic you want a mimic, and if mowzie wants to make a mimic he can make a mimic.but can we talk about something else please...PLEASE!
that was kinda bugging me and had to get out of my system.

there's nothing else that needs to be spoken this talk is pretty much done, didn't want to annoy anyone alright?
I'd like to see something really scary for ocean mobs. I mean, you have near unlimited potential for creepy deep water fish or massive whale-like creatures. Unfortunately, I don't have anything good specific that I could suggest.right now...
Well, I'd have it check the space in front of it, and if it can't fit, it will turn around.
Probably not. Much cooler things are coming soon.
That could be cool!

Yo!
No, thank you. It's fun, but way too silly.
Well I did think of that when I was about 6 or 7, its a miracle I even remembered that drawing, I drew a lot of make believe monsters
Yo!
I have an idea:

Does morph mod work with this
Tested it, you morph into the corresponding mob, except when you kill foliath, you morph into his unaggressive form, meaning only a little plant top, you don't get any abilities of the mobs though...

To some extent. You can morph into the mobs, but the Wroughtnaut and the foliaath are always inactive. There are no abilities set for any of the mobs.
No, not at the moment. You can simply not use the axe, I suppose.
I know you didn't like the other suggestions i left behind, but that's alright which is why i made a substitute for all 3 , which is just one mob.
no explanation needed for this though: Mimics
sure there's one already made but some of them explode and spawn mobs but that's not what i want for minecraft, just a simple mimic mob that's all

I'm fairly certain the aether has one like that too. Seriously, if you want Mowzie to add a mob, make it original.

I would like to suggest a chimera, with the head and tail being capable of independent attacking. this was mainly to subscribe to the thread ^^;
