Because I wanted to go for a long journey and camp under the stars beside my firepit in Terrafirmacraft, to properly enjoy the slow pace of Minecraft "life" in that mod, but still be truly terrified of the monsters that lurk underground (and in my poorly-lit malachite mine). Peaceful mode makes nights more, well, peaceful, but takes all the challenge out of exploring underground.
Also, it's always bothered me that monsters just "pop" into existence at night. I've always felt like if they're creeping around at night, they should come from somewhere, not just coalesce out of the darkness before my eyes. With this mod, now monsters never pop into existence where I can see them — they're always coming from somewhere deeper in the tunnels ahead of my torches, or sneaking out of a dark hole to ambush me while I putter around my night garden.
Actually, the devs of TFC had something similar in mind.
Kittychanley said in a reply to a post in Reddit that they were planning on moving all of the "magical" mobs underground and adding more "believable" hostile mobs in their place on the surface. Not sure if they're still going ahead with this idea, or they'll just implement this on TFC2 instead.
Now if only we can find a mod that adds believable hostile mobs and a way to increase their max health.

Well, that responce was 8 month ago, which is a ton of time. Last major update was AFAIK that one to be up to date with Forge 1488 (it broke liquids).
I'd say that TFC's wildlife is pretty poor. I was owned by the bear the first day I played that game. Heh, since then, I haven't seen any bears at all.
Mo'Creatures could do, but great dances around fire-pit while burning the configs will be required
BTW, mod is great, thanks for making such useful thing!
Is it possible to increase health bars of the mobs in Mo' Creatures? Weapons in TFC have been made a lot stronger to work with the high health bars of its mobs, so they're basically overpowered against vanilla mobs and mobs from other mods. It might be possible to kill a lion by just throwing punches at it.
I'm currently testing out Animals+. Someone made a TFC addon to make Animals+ work with TFC.
Since this is the first release and there might still be show-stopping bugs, I prefer to be asked before its included in a public modpack. But if you ask, I'll probably say yes! (You don't need permission to use it in a private modpack, of course.)
Hello Eggdropsoap,
I am making a modpack and would like to include this mod, May I?
My tests with the No Shelter mod is that it doesn't prevent the invasion mobs from that mod from spawning, through I never saw them spawn. I believe those mobs are automatically tracking the player when they spawn and may have path found their way out of caves. It was pretty awesome actually.
More news on the the interaction of this mod with the No Shelter mod.
The No Shelter invasion mobs are definitely spawning in caves and are tracking the player that caused them to spawn. I have Invasions set to every 8 nights now in the No Shelter config, and depending on the blocks that are blacklisted in the No Shelter config as unbreakable (I have it so they don't break stone now, but they did previously) they'll staircase up from the tunnels and other mobs will follow them if you also have Zombie Awareness mod.
I left dirt as breakable, and have seen swarms of mobs come up from swamps were the tunnel ceilings were dirt.
I also have Hardcore Darkness mod and the interaction of these mods are epic, you have fair periods of peace and then a mad dash for survival where mobs are coming at your from the pitch dark.
In my modpack I also have Helpful Villagers mod and have the goal to use them as resource automation, making base defense much more tricky than just defending myself.
Unfortunately, I was unable to get permission to use this mod in my modpack due to complete lack of response from the creator.
Fortunately the Just Another Spawner Mod was able to give me the same gameplay with the proper configuration. Additionally it has the side benefit of making squid spawn less out of control.
i just realized the perfect match to go with this mod to make it extra awesome.. i forget what it was called, but it allows you to set certain mobs to have much longer view distance, so they can spot you and start hunting you down from longer distances. i think that would be a reasonable way to make it so there is still somewhat of a challenge at night, especially when traveling. anyone remember what it was called? im going to search for it now. might be a couple.

I'm glad you found another mod that worked for you! I'm very sorry for the lack of response. I have not been involved in Minecraft modding for a while and didn't get the message until today, when I logged back in after years.
Better late than never... I've now given open permission in the OP.
Done! I am unlikely to continue work on this any time soon, so I am happy to put it up on GitHub. I should have done this years ago, but at least now it's out there and under an open license. See the edited OP for the link to the source.
It's a pretty simple mod at version 0.1, and the code is only a couple screens' worth. Have fun!
Does it affect Grimoire of Gaia's Day Mobs or do they spawn like usual?
EDIT: Just tried it.
mmmyep, they're kinda totally gone I guess.. ._.
Perhaps you can install another mob spawn override and try using it to edit the spawn with a hopeful override.

No, it doesn't, it only allows you to decide mob spawns and frequency. So, you'll have to find something that allows you to edit vanilla mobs.

Your probably looking for Zombie Awareness
