I tested this on local machine and it's perfect! I loaded it on our mcprohosting server and didn't get any error messages, it loaded fine. But when I switched to creative to get a backpack to test, the "iron backpacks" tab was empty.
Wow, this mod sounds awesome! You shod add that shift-right on a chest puts all the stores item into it, and shift right all from the chest into the backpack (as many as possible)

I would further that with a stacking upgrade. The auto-dump into chests is great!!! If you've got some other mechanism sorting for you. Like AE, or refined relocation.
However just a toggle/alternate upgrade that only dumps items into the chest if they already exist. (Eg stacker) it would increase stack sizes dropping it's contents, but won't fill empty slots.
Then you could mine, dump all ores, etc into the bag, when you get back to base, a right click on your ore box to take out your ores, a right click on your junk box, etc. And you've sorted everything quickly and easily. (Without any tech mods, or hoppers or pipes... Just this mod, and some manual sorting done every now and again, this pack doing the bulk of the work.)
There's a bug in 1.7.10 version, which allows a backpack with buttons to move your backpack from your hotbar in the backpack, which results by losing it if you close the interface. Also, the mod filter seems to take any kind of items, even if it is set for another mod? That's all.
What do you think about changing the recipe to 4 leather? In my own (private, personal) modpack I'm trying to support exploration in early game, so I'm using the first tier backpack super early, like craft a bed, craft a backpack. In this particular situation, 4 instead of 8 leather is such a big difference.
Can I download this if I have 1.8.8? I'm new to the whole mod thing, so sorry if it sounds kind of dumb.
It probably won't work in 1.8. No real point for it to yet anyway. Most of the main mods aren't going to 1.8 so if you want more mod access, stick with 1.7.10 mc
Ah yes, that is just a result of me not initializing the in-game config gui. I plan on completing that, but in the meantime that error message shouldn't be indicative of any problems.
Thanks!
That error is still present even today. Any news on progress with the GUI?
Despite what the log says, that is not a critical error and will not affect your gameplay in any significant way. It is just the code that allows you to modify the configuration in-game, and Forge is complaining because it isn't set up. The error should be gone in the next version, but for now it is nothing to worry about (sorry for the console spam I guess though).
Regarding Minecraft 1.8:
Sorry, no plans to support it at the current moment; I would much rather make the 1.7 version as polished and feature complete as possible.
Regarding the lack of recent development:
For those of you who are wondering where I have been and why development has stagnated, I have been extremely busy with a study abroad program. Moving to Sweden, taking new (hard) university classes, and hanging out with all my new international friends has taken up all of my time. However, the class workload should drop off significantly (I hope) in about 2 weeks from now, as I am about to take exams to finish some classes. If all goes as planned I can continue working on this mod then, assuming I can get my development workspace to cooperate on my laptop.

I will add in an option to allow you to change the recipe of the basic backpack in the config as well.
I'm just letting you know that I updated IronBackpacks to 1.8 and am maintaining it over here.
Just to make it clear, TehNut's port is the "official" port of IronBackpacks for Minecraft 1.8. Therefore it is on Github here and on the normal IronBackpacks CurseForge here (with the filename for the 1.8 version being being IronBackpacks-1.8-verisonNumber.jar).
Not very long at all! Almost ready for a public beta. Assuming I don't stumble across some big mod-breaking bug, in the next couple of days for sure.
Get hyped!
Edit: Once v1.0.4 hits 100k downloads (only ~250 away at the time of me writing this) I will upload the next version! Now I'm off to do more testing...
It works now weird!
Will this be updated to 1.8? This seems like an amazing mod. Like/Repost if you agree!

Umm... The "Quick Deposit Upgrade" doesn't work for me, & I can't figure out how it works. Any Ideas?
Hey, I noticed, the restock upgrade isn't wanting to work with arrows, while using either a modded or vanilla bow. Please fix this
Very nice mod, needs more love! Good work!
I'm certainly putting this into my modpack.
Which one?
All of them. :3

Excuse me, but... how can I wear up this backpack, when it is behind my back as in screenshots?

You have to wait, that isn't yet implemented to a stable build. I will post here as soon as I have a beta ready.
Check out my mod!
Ah, I see. And how long will it take?
