Scythes could have the beheading property, with cleavers getting a new property giving extra drop chance for things like gunpowder, rotten flesh, or ender pearls. Cleavers are typically a sort of dismembering weapon anyway, so it could still work.

I think that Cleavers should drop more loot (more meat?) from animals, because it's the first think that I thought when I have read your suggestion.
a modiffer for poison i think it should be a spider eye plus blood ball or a more expensive way 8 spider eyes or blood around the other
Now that'd be cool, maybe a poison potion as well, like Skyrim's poison system, where first hit delivers poison, but it is used up then. A temporary modifier that can make a difference in boss fights or PVP.

Before you post something on the Tinkers' Construct thread... please read this.
If you have a crash log, READ it before posting it (and if you do, use spoilers). Some stuff should be obvious to where it comes from. Try reproducing the same thing with only Tinkers' Construct or Mantle on vanilla Forge (please do make sure that you're using the latest TiC and Mantle versions). If it still does happen, report it to the issue tracker (Yes, you have to sign up... but it's not that hard).
Last but not least, please do not ask for unsupported versions (1.7.10, 1.8.9) or ask for non-existent ones (1.8)!
On a different note I would like to ask something:
The cutlass. For a "secret" weapon it is kind of ... weak.
I am only familiar with the 1.7.10 cutlass but it was so underwhelming I completely gave up upon it once I had crafted my first one.
Is there not any way to increase the speed gained from it? Does it even exist?
In theory the thing was way more awesome than it was in reality and I fear if a scythe weapon would be added it might turn out the same way
The cutlass has higher base damage than the broadsword or longsword. That in and of itself was reason enough for me to switch over and never look back.

In 1.10.2, I use a shield pretty effectively along with a manyulln broadsword against skeletons. The server I'm on is PvE, so no need to worry about players. Just block right as the skeleton fires, then run towards it, then block again as it fires, etc.

Why? Why not use anything cheaper? That stuff is expensive. Make it out of Obisidian! It is sturdy and cheap and not too shabby. And with the right mods even more accessable than wood! Everything else but the blade can be made out of ...
Waaiiiit a minute! Was it not so that things can have dual material in the later versions? Just watch that one of those materials is Obsidian and keep Sharpener Stones of that material always in your inventory.

We were talking about blocking with the Cutlass, though. A weapon that was never implemented since Shields were added.

Why should I charge full speed ahead into an arrow?! Let it see you, chase you and hide behind corners! (Most of the time the AI even plays into your hands by "scratching the wall" you hide behind to be accessable to hits when it appears in your field of view.
Or block with a shield (or sign ) in the correct timing. (Aint got that timing yet with practically one minute practicing ^^ )
Block begin - Arrow hit - Seize block - charge - repeat. Simple as that and doable in a minimum of time.

I never bothered with blocking until shields happened, actually, so for me cutlasses were an overall benefit. Plus I liked how they looked better than the other swords.
My broadsword was originally made of stone, actually. The previous upgrade before manyulln was I think alumite, and when I upped to manyullln it went from three hits to kill a zombie to one, without any Smite modifier.
Hey guys, anybody care to share some nice combinations for a Cleaver for late game? wanna make it with manyullyn but idk if i should use all paper besides the blade part itself.

I could see "chance of instant death" as a property on a scythe... if so many of the foes where not undead to begin with.
