You should be able to mine coal with a pickaxe with a flint head. With the default Iguana TT config, you should be able to mine tin with a leveled up pickaxe with an iron head.
You can completely turn off the disabling of vanilla and other mods' tools by changing one "true" to "false" in the TiC config.

Just wondering, does anyone know anything about when 1.8 Tinker's Construct will be possibly released?
Also, somewhat separate, does anyone here know how I could make and Area of Effect harvest tool easily for 1.8? I tried the tinker's hammer code but got almost nowhere with my limited knowledge of modding...the hammer code has a lot to do with tool parts but I just want a vanilla like tool that will break a 3x3.
So... I kinda had a suggestion about the arrow / bolts crafting. I hope this is the place to suggest them, but after some experimentation I found these things really desired to see. Note that these suggestions are mainly based off the FTB Infinity standpoint.
Balances
- Make Enderium equipment equally, or a tiny bit stronger than Shiny. Enderium is very easy to make, and is even stronger than AWAKENED DRACONIUM!
- Make Signalum crossbows as strong as all other Gold counterparts. Really? A 0.25 default draw speed?
- Let the Cleaver give both a Slow and Mining Fatigue debuff. The single MF debuff is easily neglectible with Haste I.
- Decrease the overall tool stats, and let the Tool Binding have an actual effect on the tools rather than merely its material trait.
- Decrease the range and projectile speed of crossbows, and decrease the projectile damage and accuracy of bows. Crossbows must excel at closer-range accuracy and DPS, while bows must excel at far-away combat.
- Make draw speed of a Crossbow much lower and put the minimum cap at 1.00S. a 0.25S reload speed is ridicilliously fast.
Fletching
- Let Bolts be made through these items; Bolt Tip, Bolt core, Feather.
--- Bolt Tip determines Critical Hit chance, Accuracy and Damage

Moss modifier should require planting the weapon or tool like a crop in farmland (with the same rules as regular crops - with needing water nearby). With higher moss upgrades the faster it grows. Growth time should depend on the maximum amount of durability the item has. Bonemeal could be used to accelerate the growth. Perfect way to balance moss for both arbitrary modpacks and for elusively twinkers.

i think the only reason you can't, is because of the tinkers tools right click function (place torches)
would it be possible to make the seared stone bricks prevent mob spawning or perhaps a version that did? It would be nice to have something from this mod that could be used to make floors and prevent mobs from spawning, without having to resort to getting a mob spawn control mod and potentially modifying hundreds of entries? (I have MOC and CMS, but I'd have to modify the config setting for each and every hostile mob in there).
tried it, seems to be working in fact with an addon most GT materials are now possible to make ingots out of, just a slight problem i can't use multichemical ores, such as limonite and coal making iron, as well as others. most ores are usable minus things after Plutonium and things not on the base list. (which is fine i guess considering they either have no use anyways or have a substitute in a standard material
I'm having a bit of a problem with the armor, I can't modify any part of it because when I put it on the table My game crashes.
It takes it forever and a half to shutdown and give me a crash report so I don't have one to show you but from what I can remember it said something about Tick exceptions and the enchantments on the armor.

Just tried a longsword in main and off hands...works fine for me! Maybe it's broke again for 1.8?
