I made it work on version beta 3, but it is all messed up. I will fix it for next version that should be out until saturday.
But armor for now will still be textures with all 4 parts of the armor, but a helmet will only use the helmet part ignoring the rest. I will try to improve this in future versions, so each part of the armor has its own texture.
I will release the next version until saturday. The new version will have its own wiki with a tutorial series.

So, I have an item collection in the customItems config, known as AlienOres.json. The wiki was rather ambiguous in describing the mechanics of the mod, trial and error indicates that even I'm having trouble getting the textures to load. I used an all lowercase name for my textures, no underscores, but still acting like they are missing! does the Resource pack have to be the same name as the JSON?
UPDATE: the customItems folder in the assets directory, MUST BE all lowercase letters as "customitems". It seems to be a string typo in your code.
Quick question, is it possible to use other mod's potion effects (e.g. I want to make my awesome axe to make the hit entity get Bleeding damage from the Camping Mod) or remove specific effects (e.g. Oh no! A zombie stole my awesome axe and now I'm bleeding! Luckily I have a gauze bandage that can cure bleeding specifically!) Also, is it possible to make one use only items that are consumed on right click, even with a full hunger bar?
