After getting tired of using other mods to get items in peaceful mode that are normally only available in easy-hard modes, I decided to try my hand at modding. The style I decided to go with was using dyes to make different vanilla items. As this is my first mod and I have zero java experience prior to this(some basic c++ tho), I hope to get feedback from the community to improve on it as well as modding advice on how to better code it.
This mod adds the ability to turn the primary colors of wool into dye(White, Black, Brown, Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow)
These are dyes that cannot be made using different dye combinations. EX: Red + Yellow = Purple while Yellow + Blue != Green(I add this in tho :))
Further, it adds recipes to turn the dye into items.
Recipes: Wool to Dye + Dye to Hostile Mob Drops
Recipes: Nether Blocks/Items
Sorry it's so god awful HUGE!(but visible lol)
This "should" work on servers, if the server has it installed.
This does not add new blocks/items. You can remove/add the mod from/to existing worlds without consequence(lose the recipes tho derp)
Here's the Download.
This version seems to be compatible with 1.7.2 as well.

I was thinking of adding those particular Items in actually For those people and servers who disable the nether or simply don't want to visit it. Give feedback on the recipes involved and I will see what I can do to add them.

Well, for Glowstone, Im thinking 9 Yellow Dyes makes one Dust, and for Quartz, I'd have to say a mix of Light Gray and Bonemeal possibly.

Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
It seems like a neat mod, but is there a config to disable the Nether Star Recipe, can you possibly add 'Dye Dust' which can turn dyes into items when put into a crafting table instead of just some dyes and whatnot (Dye Dusts are crafted by putting 3 random dyes in a shapeless recipe to get 3 Dye Dusts), and can the Luzi Lupias recipe be slightly nerfed, as in give out only one instead of 2 (Since it is a gem), and can I use it in my modpack?

One of the hidden points of the mod is that it doesn't add in modded items, blocks, dimensions, etc. The reason for that is that it simply allows server owners/players to add/remove the mod without item loss. Besides that, a 3/3 ratio on dye to dust would in effect be pointless, unless the current recipes conflict with another mod. If any of my recipes conflict with a mod and that mod was released prior to mine, I will gladly change the recipe. I do have plans to nerf quite a few recipes, starting withe the wool2dye as it gives a painstaking way to duplicate any dye without shearing further sheep. With the reduced rates, I will simplify some of the harder recipes and complicate some of the simpler ones to get balance, I will either remove the nether star recipe or change it to a blend of dyes and other harder to obtain vanilla items. Everything should be released in about 3-4 days.
I love programming but I am a C++ baby, java gives me a headache(before and after compile). This is my first attempt at java coding at all and so far I only get basic syntax, my code would probably make a seasoned coder's eyes feel dirty. can do: recipies and basic blocks/items. maybe someday: config and advanced scripting, Sorry .
This may sound selfish, but, as this is my first mod, I can use all the reputation I can get. Original clicks/Dl's == popularity So, for now the answer to mod packs is no. I want to reach at least 500 downloads from curse before allowing the mod to be redistributed elsewhere.

wool to dye recipes now only yield one dye
removed nether star recipe for now, I'll bring it back with a harder recipe depending on community feedback
changed Blaze rod, spider eye, string, enderpearl, and slimeball recipes
I will upload the images later today or early tomorrow
I don't know if anyone else that replied with my question.
But. Some of the items which are usually hard to get are now extremely easy.
For e.g. The wither heads. I could actually make a wither farm because the "8 incsacks + rose red" craft.
Other wise its a great mod
