This is a beta release and a complete rewrite. There are bound to be Bugs! Please report them!
Cauldron is not supported, since it messes with Events, and that breaks stuff.
The game will try to update your tools if they have incorrect stats. If the tooltip tells you it's incorrect, simply put it into any crafting window and pull out the (hopefully) fixed tool.
This is the 1.7.10 port of Iguana_mans Iguana Tweaks for Tinkers Construct. It is a mod that adds a slower progression through the earlygame, and tool-leveling which awards random bonus modifiers on levelups. However the biggest part of Iguana Tweaks is that it allows to adapt many many properties of the game/Tinker's Construct.
Welcome everybody, to the new Iguana Tweaks for TConstruct. The step from 1.6.4 to 1.7.10 has been quite big, and TConstruct had many changes too, so this is a complete rewrite based on iguana_mans original. This means that some things had to be done slightly different, and some things are a bit different on purpose. However with this fresh codebase, easier portability will hopefully follow.
I recommend reading the Feature-list to get a complete overview.

Override Module
This module is for all you config wranglers out there: It allows you to change nearly everything. It has several components.
First off, to use this module you have to go to the modules.cfg and set it to true. Then start minecraft once to generate the configs.
Each part of this module generates two files: a Default-file to use for copying and reference, and an Override-file containing the actual changes.
The files themselves contain more information on how to use them.
You can do the following things:
Block-Override: set the harvestlevel and tool required for any block
BonusModifier-Override: Change the weights and the impact of actions for modifiers, as well as which modifiers are considered useful for the UsefulModifiers config option.
Material-Override: Change the stats of any tool material. Also allows to additionaly give materials different leveling-speed.
Tool-Override: Allows to change the harvest level of any tool
Material-Override: Allows to override stats of tinker materials
HarvestLevelName-Override: Allows to change the names of harvest levels

Differences to old Iguana Tweaks for TConstruct
For all the people who want to know what changed!
General:
Localization
New Head-Rendering. This means "real" endermen heads!
TE-Support: Blizz Head
Dense Ores Support
ExtraTiC Support has been newly rebalanced to the harvestlevel progression
Config option to make all non-tinkers tools useless
Creating a metal cast burns up the material it was casted around. No more useless stone tool parts lying around!
Dungeon Chests may contain random Weapons.
Random Bonuses
Now allows ALL modifiers (if useful bonuses config is disabled)
..but Bonuses are weighted, so you'll usually get very little weird bonuses
Random-mode config option for pure chaos
The different bonus modifiers can be deactivated separately (like TiC Tweaks)
Doing stuff gives a small chance increase to obtain certain modifiers
Bonus Modifiers
can now be cofigured per level. Determine at which levelups a bonus modifier is awarded. Default is after 1st, 3rd and 5th levelup
Tool Part Swapping
Only one part can be exchanged at a time. Was two in old version.
If a part accepts multiple parts of the same type (e.g. large plate for hammer), changing the slot the part is in changes which one will get replaced
Tools with mining-level-xp cannot be downgraded to tool-heads without
Harvest Level Tweaks:
Added an additional mining level, Redstone/Diamond. Basically this allows to mine diamonds, but not obsidian. Only Bronze with the NerfBronze config has this mining level, otherwise you'd need steel to progress.
Material properties are a bit different (minor)
Emerald/Diamond modifier don't give mining levels anymore
ExtraTic Materials have been rebalanced/adjusted to HarvestLevels
Pickaxe mining level boosting
Because of the additional mining level the multiplier for BoostXP has been lowered and is configurable separately now.
Applicable mining levels for heads are a bit different
Part Restriction
Defaults have been changed a bit
FAQ
1.7.2?
No.
[Some Question that has already been answered in this main post]?
[Null and Void]
Help I can't mine anything but stone!
Level up your mining level to boost your pickaxe, or deactivate the feature in the configs.
Help I keep finding awesome useless rainbow magic Weapons in my Dungeons?
ITT adds randomly created weapons to dungeon loot. However there are some other mods that influence dungeon loot, that do not or cannot support NBT data on dungeon loot. If you encounter a colorful weird item in your dungeon loot, that's exactly what happened.
Known mods that cause this are: TooMuchLoot, DungeonPack
What's with all this bronze business? I can't get Obsidian?
This version adds an additional mining level that didn't exist in the old iguana tweaks: Redstone/Diamond. Before, Bronze was equal to a diamond pickaxe. This seemed a bit drastic and the old diamond-mining-level was also pretty overcrowded with materials, so I split it up.
Bronze can mine redstone ore and diamond ore, but not obsidian. You'd require Steel or Pig Iron, which are both not feasibly obtainable without additional mods. However you can add a diamond or emerald to a bronze pickaxe to increase its mining level by one, if the config option is enabled (which it is, by default).
What happens when I add Metallurgy/ExtraTiC?
The Metallurgy ore progression is aligned to the harvestlevel changes. That mean you can use them instead of regular ores. No additional harvestlevels are added.
But.. but.. TheOldOne and Iguana Man!
As mDiyo says, Iguana Man has pretty much vanished and his mod is Open Source so people can continue.
TheOldOne simply did not have time/other things on his mind according to his last post in the TicTweaks thread. SO I took it over.
Why a rewrite?
To achieve a clean codebase. The Tinker's Construct changed many things, the new version has a much simpler and easier understandable code. This hopefully allows for the mod to update quicker/adapt quicker.
Why not TiC Tweaks?
I don't know all the details that TiC Tweaks changed. Also Glassmaker had already started on the original. However all changes from TiC Tweaks have been implemented.
I updated but Forge Multiparts still don't work!
First, that's not a question!
There was a Bug in Botania and possibly other mods that somehow broke FMP for worlds. Worlds created with the latest Botania version 1.2-115 work. If somebody figures out how to update worlds created with older versions, feel free to inform me.
Iguana Man is currently busy with school and life. He's given me permission to update and boni has been doing good work with the mod. Hopefully it works just like everyone expects. :3
I understand that this is straight from vanilla Iguana Tweaks, not from the other branch of it that was very configurable. Speed/durability can be changed, but what about stuff like changing mining tools' harvest levels? Do you plan on implementing that in future updates if its not in this update? Having just that one feature from Tic Tweaks would be awesome for modpacks and such. Thanks a lot for updating the mod!
EDIT: I Just saw that its a planned feature. Sorry about that.
Osmium from Mekanism is only harvestable with ardite level tools.2
Certus quartz now requires an obisidian mining level, and can mine at iron.
Bronze by default has an equal level to steel.1
Fairy (extra-tic) has lower stats than ardite while using ardite to create.4
Pokefenium has the above true as well.4
Disabling 'basic' tools also disables tools from other mods.3
Hoe are still valid.
Bronze can be further nerfed. Why not other materials as well?
This essentially makes Mekanism 'end game' content. Not everyone enjoys the nether and currently this forces players to venture there. Would it be possible to make osmium equal to redstone or even obsidian and give it a mining level of iron?
Bound tools from AWayOfTime's bloodmagic are now useless. They are very expensive and very late game. This also holds true to Extra Util's unstable ingot tools. Could there not be an exception for them? Tools from Hardcore Ender Expansion are unaffected.
They are unaffected as far as I am aware (aside from mining speed)?
Osmium from Mekanism is only harvestable with ardite level tools.2
That's original iguana tweaks. I was wondering about it too and was *this* close to lowering it. Then I forgot that the Metallurgic Infuser and the Casing need osmium too. Will be changed in the next version. Was planning on changing it to Iron to keep it on equal terms with TE/EnderIO, but since one can't do anything without redstone... hmm

I've added a FAQ to address some things. Will be expanded as questions come up. The Bronze part should be cleared up in there.
Fairy (extra-tic) has lower stats than ardite while using ardite to create.4 Pokefenium has the above true as well.4
One could say that's on purpose because it's pretty, but it's not. I totally forget to adjust the materials added only by ExtraTiC itself.

That's because the options goal is to disable all non-tinkers tools.
See Stuff to come in the future.
Hoe are still valid.
That's because hoes don't have a harvest level. I kinda deliberately left those in since tinkers doesn't add a hoe, only the mattock, and I expect many modpacks that use iguana tweaks to only allow mattocks with metals.
Least I could do considering all the work you put in.

Can't complain about that. Good to know though.

Understandable. I just dislike hoes my self. (Insert hoe joke here) I guess I can just disable vanilla hoes using a recipe remover.
On a side note, the new forum formatting is annoying.
Can you make Max Level configurable? I like to play with modifiers completely off, but I'm concerned tools with only 6 bonuses may be weaker then I'd like. Also, some kind of modifier on the required XP per level would be useful for tweaking between a more hardcore or easygoing game.
Doh. I was too lazy to navigate to my config folder to double-check, and I already had the source open in another tab. Guess I didn't look hard enough.
How about blacklisting modifiers. In case someone wants a pack without Mossy. I swear that wasn't there before...
Edit: Also, why the option to disable the Stone Torch? Just because it's silly or something more?
Old Iguana had it. It was easy to implement. I'm sure there's people out there who want to force people into using wood for torches.
Essentially it. While I personally don't care, requiring wooden torches means you cannot create more while mining should you run out. Unless of course you bring wood but that takes up valuable inventory space.
I don't know where to adress this issue. When I have copper and tin I can make a bronze head. The problem is the bronze pick has a mining level of redstone and upgrades to obsidian. That is wrong. It should have a mining level of tin and upgrade to redstone. Otherwise you can skip two tiers in the progression. I have TiC/Metallurgy installed - all the latest versions. It might be a problem in another mod but I do not know for sure. :-)
// Edit: Nevermind! I edited the config but I gave myself the tool before the config change and it kept its mining level. Sorry!
In the config files I've set this (# Makes all non-TConstruct tools mine nothing [default: true]) to false but we are still unable to make vanilla tools useful again. Is there something else I should enable/disable or is this not working by design?
This is working fine for me with both the current release as well as the custom build I am running. You sure you correctly edited the file?

Mojang, please prioritize bug fixes before content.
I'm having an issue with my client crashing when trying to switch out hammer heads from stone to obsidian. The hammer is stone with Moss 2, Auto smelt, full haste, and Diamond modifiers. Here is the crash report: http://paste.ee/p/yaHhm

Do the tools display the tooltip? If yes, then it's not disabled. If they don't show the tooltip, it's not iguana tweaks.

Now how did you get a stone hammer with stone tools disabled?
Any chance you could something to say stop receiving free modifiers after x tier? It's terribly annoying getting unbreaking or moss on my cobalt pick, but useful for beginnings.

Can't complain about that. Good to know though.
Yes, Fairy alloy is shiny...
Sweet!
Understandable. I just dislike hoes my self. (Insert hoe joke here) I guess I can just disable vanilla hoes using a recipe remover.
On a side note, the new forum formatting is annoying.
..which requires obsidian to make. Which is not minable if you have bronze-nerfs and no steel. ;P
Also:
S:xpPerLevelMultiplier=1.15
I:xpRequiredToolsPercentage=100
I:xpRequiredWeaponsPercentage=100
Doh. I was too lazy to navigate to my config folder to double-check, and I already had the source open in another tab. Guess I didn't look hard enough.
How about blacklisting modifiers. In case someone wants a pack without Mossy.I swear that wasn't there before...Edit: Also, why the option to disable the Stone Torch? Just because it's silly or something more?
Essentially it. While I personally don't care, requiring wooden torches means you cannot create more while mining should you run out. Unless of course you bring wood but that takes up valuable inventory space.
Out of curiosity
The above changes the tools properties. So far this is what I have worked out. BTW, your code is lovely.
// mining level , durability , mining speed , no clue whats so ever , Handle multiplier
edit: derpy formatting is derpy.
:-)// Edit: Nevermind! I edited the config but I gave myself the tool before the config change and it kept its mining level. Sorry!
This is working fine for me with both the current release as well as the custom build I am running. You sure you correctly edited the file?
Do the tools display the tooltip? If yes, then it's not disabled. If they don't show the tooltip, it's not iguana tweaks.
Now how did you get a stone hammer with stone tools disabled?
