Two things. A: vanilla pumpkins can't be put into a compost bin. B: is there a way to make compost bins more efficient and/or work quicker?
I'm thinking a small heat source (i.e. a torch) could be used to make it work faster. Not sure though.

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!

For me the soil sampler is not working. When I take a soil sample from a woodland biome and apply it to a block of dirt in the desert biome, the dirt is not changed. Any crops I try to plant on that dirt die after about thirty seconds and when I take a new soil sample of the dirt the temperature and rainfall values remain the same. Am I doing something wrong, or....?

The sample kits have nothing to do with crop growth. And while a sample can be "taken" on any block, its effect can only be applied to garden soil/tilled garden soil/plant containers. Its only use is to recolor plants that are affected by biome, like grass and ferns.
Both can be done through MineTweaker, though pumpkins should already be on the default list. Are you on the latest?
Which ever version FTB Regrowth uses? Let me see... File is "GardenStuff-1.7.10-1.5.6" ? Unless it's Agricraft dicking around with things again, I know it breaks cactus for Botania. >.< You have to drop cactus and pick it back up again to get Botania to recognize cactus as cactus. I'll do the same for pumpkins later and see, if so I'll take it to the Agricraft thread. >.<
Edit: Nope, dropped them and placed them and picked them back up and no go. Pumpkins don't even highlight when I mouse over the 3x3 input grid. Same for Natura's Barley.

The pumpkins and the MineTweaker API were added in 1.6.0. Most people like converting their pumpkins to seeds and composting those instead.
I was composting potatoes, shift clicked in a stack of 45 potatoes and then shift clicked a full 64 stack of them right after that and this crash occured.

Seeds... Forgot about those, in Regrowth seeds are a pain to get. You only start with wheat and a couple of Witchery ones and everything else is crossbreeding using Agricraft or Botania runic alter recipes. I wonder if I can use pumpkin and melon seeds for Botania... Something to research and test, if so, that solves *one* problem. Cool! Thanks.:D
In my Regrowth game, I try to get all seeds up to 10/10/10 Agricraft stats. The process produces many "inferior" seeds and surplus food that I just throw in the compost. The only excess seeds worth hanging on for, for Botania down the line, are vanilla wheat seeds and Magical Crops essence seeds. But a 10/10/10 pumpkinplant produces 4 pumpkins per harvest on average, and regrows quite quickly if on garden soil, or is on farmland irrigated with an Agricraft sprinkler. I have a row of 10 pumpkin stalks which can yeild on average 40 pumpkins each harvest. Trust me, seeds are not a scarcity any longer.
For producing more wheat seeds, plant a 7x7 or so field (best to use garden soil or use Agricraft irrigation), plant Agricaft double crops on all blocks but one corner, then plant your best wheat seed in that corner in a single crop. Let it spread, break the plants when the area is covered, analyze the seeds, replant the best seed and repeat. You'll shortly end up with 10/10/10 seeds that can spread and grow quickly, and you'll have more than enough wheat seeds for Botania quests.
An alternative to plants, veggies, fruit and seeds for composting in Regrowth is fishing. You can compost all the vanilla fish you catch with the vanilla fishing rod (not sure about Mariculture fish yet as I don't have that set up yet) which can be acquired very every game. The catch rates have been super buffed, so you can catch a lot in a few minutes, more than you'll need for food. That way you don't need to worry about composting seeds if you're still trying to get your early game crops going.
I continue to be perplexed looking at these examples, both because it's inconsistent and because you claim it only happens in a server environment (where this stuff should be strictly a client-only issue). It feels like a threading issue of some kind, although the 1.7.10 renderer itself is supposed to be single-threaded.
Do the render anomalies change as you continue to place blocks in the area, causing the chunk section to re-render?
No, only when the blocks are placed above the lattice in its plane or adjacent to said plane, even when no connection is possible. Placing blocks more than a single tile away sideways results in no difference, while placing them above results in changes even when the block isn't in the same render-chunk.

It will of course be involved with slabs because it's the 'extension' part that's causing the fault - I just haven't seen it yet. Would you say these configurations are reliable? If you assemble them anywhere, they trigger the glitch?

Yup. Spawn, not spawn, in the sky, underground, in the Nether and End (though MUCH harder to replicate in either, for some reason - I'd blame perfomance, but the next one has even better FPS, being black void, and is still perfectly replicable), in the Last Millenium, et cetera. "Block on top glitching lattices" also happens with wood posts, I just didn't get around to uploading screenshots of that. Just 3 high lattice, 3 high post with a block offset diagonally from lattice above it is enough to have the glitch in my Overworld. Or right above lattice if it's built in the + shape with center being post.
P.S. I retract my "posts extending to slabs" suggestion. Being able to do fancy under-roof rafting with straight-ish posts because they don't connect to slabs and some other blocks is nice. Sadly, they do connect to TD Covers and EIO Facades...

Thanks for the large sample of test cases. I have reproduced it in SSP, so at least the world feels a little more ordered now. Will need to dig a bit deeper into why the render fails so bizarrely.
Just to let you know Pam did add iPlantable support! I really love using your garden soil now. I can now have my rolling fields of barley without random patches of water :D!
Anyway, quick question. In the future would you consider adding support for mods such as BOP and EBXL for the window boxes? Even if it is set up how the Storage drawers work, It would be neat. If there isn't enough content to do so would you possibly consider creating wooden planters?
I made a Feed The Beast modpack! Simply type "Experiment812390" without quotes into the 3rD party codes area and you can see the mods list and install!

No, they won't. They won't be growable into small trees.

Formerly known as ORabbit around these parts.
I've managed to get some of these in a singleplayer environment, and again with slabs involved. The behavior is pretty consistent.
