This mod has moved and is now under new management with my official permission. Both the old and new versions of the mod will be hosted on CurseForge from now on. The new project page is over here. I am leaving the old post in the spoiler below for posterity's sake.
HELLO people! Welcome to the Rediscovered Mod! The purpose of this modification is to add in anything that has been unused, unimplemented, or removed from Minecraft's files! It covers a wide variety of topics that could have made it into the vanilla game but sadly, did not. In fact, that is one of my goals for this mod! To possibly see some of these features added into the vanilla game!
A note about Changed Textures, Pocket Edition and Minecraft 2.0:
I will NOT be adding features from EITHER of these versions of Minecraft into the mod. Do not ask, you will be ignored if you do. I would rather implement ACTUAL ideas FOR THE PC version rather than simple jokes or things from Pocket Edition OR CHANGED TEXTURES like the old cobblestone or brick. Its just stupid. Go use a resource pack if you want them that badly.
Keep in mind that while I am a fan of keeping these features as close to their original purpose as possible, I will still be adding my own flare to them in order to make the mod more enjoyable. Therefore some of the things in this mod aren't exactly implemented the same way they were intended to be. This is to keep things like the Sky Dimension from becoming something pointless that no one would actually use. Think of it this way, would you rather have a new fun Mario Bros. game or Museum Simulator 2014?
Blocks
Crying Obsidian
-A block originally used to set your spawn point. It does not do anything in this mod yet but it will in the future.
Old Sponge
-A block originally used suck up water. It will absorb all water blocks within a 5x5x5 area. Not to be confused with the sponges added in 1.8, this sponge will not stop absorbing water. In this mod, they generate naturally in oceans in groups of 5-6 and will not suck up water until placed.
Gears
-These were an original idea to make blocks that produce a kind of electric current, but were replaced in favor of redstone. In this mod, they provide a redstone current to all blocks around them and will rotate.
Lanterns
-These were Notch's idea of replacing torches. Originally, he would have made torches extinguish after a certain amount of time, and made lanterns a source of permanent light. Due to the overwhelming negative response, he decided not to implement them and keep things the way they were. In this mod, they provide a source of light and will emit light around a player if held in the hotbar.
Dirt Slabs
-These were the original slab. Notch used these to test how slabs would work before he added the wood and stone ones we have today.
Tables, Chairs and Lecterns
These are pieces of furniture that at one point had sprites in Minecrafts files. Their original purpose is unknown.
Locked Chest
-The April Fools joke of 2011, these chests would ask you if you wish to go to the "Minecraft Store" in order to buy a key to open it. In this mod, it does the same, linking you to the April Fools Minecraft Store webpage
Spikes
-These were an idea to be added to pistons in order to make them pull blocks before Jeb thought of sticky pistons. In this mod, they hurt the player when touched for 2 hearts of damage (4 times as much as cactus) and can be placed sideways. Perfect for traps
Scarecrow
-An idea discussed by the Mojang team. Originally thought to attract monsters. In the mod, they attract zombies which will attempt to break the scarecrow. Passive mobs will try to avoid them.
Items
Quiver and Old Bow Mechanic
-This was an unused sprite in Minecraft's game files. It had no real purpose, but in this mod, when worn on the back like a chestplate it gives the player the ability to rapid-fire arrows like in the versions of Minecraft before Beta 1.8. It can also be crafted with armor to combine the protection of armor with the quiver rapid-fire mechanic.
Leather-Chain Armor
- Originally unused sprites in Minecraft, it is assumed that it would have given the player the protection of chain armor and leather armor combined. In this mod, it does just that. Crafted from combining a piece of leather armor and the respective piece of chainmail armor.
Unused Potion Effects
-There are a few potion effects in Minecraft that can only be obtained through commands. This mod makes them obtainable in survival mode. There is a Potion of Nausea (Awkward potion and Rotten Flesh in crafting), Potion of Slow Mining (Awkward Potion and Apple), and Potion of Blindness (Awkward Potion and Poisonous Potato). Splash potion versions can be made by combining each potion with gunpowder.
Purple Arrow
-These were originally shot by skeletons before Notch changed the texture to be wooden. In this mod they are shot by ranged pigmen and are purely aesthetic
Unused and Removed Flowers
-Roses (as many may know) used to be a flower that generated throughout the world, but was removed. Paeonias are flowers that appeared in a screenshot for the 1.7 "Flower" update, but never were implemented and instead Peony Bushes were. In this mod, both of these flowers are obtainable by shearing their respective bush. Shearing the bush will drop 1-3 of the respective flower and cause the bush to become a sheared version which will grow back its flowers over time.
(From left to right: Paeonia, Peony Bush, Empty Peony Bush, Empty Rose Bush, Rose Bush, Rose)
Mobs
Fish
-These creatures were going to be added in the 2010 Halloween Update, but Notch never got around to it and only ended up adding the item. In this mod, you can find them swimming around in oceans and lakes. When killed, they drop one fish item. Can be used as a more aggressive way to fish or simply for an atmospheric detail.
Undead Horses
-These horses are still in the games code, but do nothing and can only be found by spawning them in. This mod revamps them to spawn at night, be hostile to the player, and attack living horses, If you plan on taming a horse, make sure to protect it from these monsters.
Giants
-Unused in Minecraft's code, these can only be spawned in with commands. In this mod, they appear in the Sky Dimension (More further down) as hostile mobs. They drop 1-2 golden apples when killed and very rarely a super golden apple (the one made with gold blocks).
Pigmen and Green Villager
-Pigmen were originally going to inhabit the vanilla villages until someone at Mojang decided cavemen squidwards were better. The Green Villager is a default version of normal villagers and does not normally spawn. In this mod, Pigmen spawn in their own Pigmen villages in the Sky Dimension (more on that further down) and are holding a Green villager hostage! If you are able to get past the Pigmen guards, you can make EXCELLENT trades (They generally trade for rubies (see below), similar to how Villagers trade for emeralds.)
Rana, Steve, Black Steve, and Beast Boy
-Made by Dock who used to work at Mojang, these were random mobs that he added for god knows what reason. In this mod, one of each spawns in Pigmen villages in the Sky Dimension (More on that further down) and are all hostile except for Rana. Steve, Black Steve, and Beast Boy drop an assortment of items, from feathers, to gunpowder, to string, to very rarely flint and steel. Rana drops 1-2 apples
Red Dragon
-Mentioned by members of the Mojang team, this red version of the ender dragon would have spawned in the Overworld and would be tamable. In this mod, they spawn in the Sky Dimension in order to cause havoc and make it a bit more interesting (More on that below). They drop 1 Red Dragon egg which can be used to summon another dragon. For the future I have plans to make the hatched red dragon tamed.
World Generation
Ruby Ore
-Ruby ore can be found throughout the overworld below level 32, about as rare as gold. The ore drops rubies (Fortune level applies) which can be used to trade with Pigmen in the Sky Dimension or make into Ruby Blocks. (Ruby tools were never confirmed by anyone at Mojang, therefore they will not be added to this mod. Though the rubies in this mod are Ore Dictionary compatible, meaning if another mod adds ruby tools, you can make them out of the rubies from this mod if you wish.)
(Ruby compared to emerald)
Cherry Trees
-Cherry Trees were mentioned to be added in the 1.7 "World-Changing" Update, but never were. In this mod, Cherry trees generate in the Sky Dimension (See below)
Sky Dimension
A land full of mystery and wonder! This dimension was being played around with by Notch, before scrapping it and reusing the code to make The End. It was rumored that Jeb would be continuing work on it, but he has said that there are currently no plans to reimplement it. Originally, Notch wanted the Sky Dimension to be a sort of "Dream World" and that you would randomly be sent there when you sleep. You would then obtain an item that would allow you to go there at any time. In this mod, the Sky Dimension does all this and more.
There is a random chance when you sleep in a bed (changeable in the config) that you will be sent to the Sky Dimension. When you do, you will appear in a small house with a bed, chair, table, and fireplace. Once in the dimension, you can sleep or fall off the edge to return to the bed you slept at in the overworld. But you probably don't want to do this on your first visit. Try to find a pigmen village. If you do and manage to fight your way to a loot chest hidden within it, you can find a Dream Pillow. It looks like this: and can be used in the overworld on a bed to directly send you back to the sky dimension at any time.
Be warned though: Giants and Red dragons spawn throughout the Sky Dimension to hunt you down. It is not as safe a place as it may seem.
A Note about configuration:
- In the config file, you can change a multitude of things about the sky dimension, such as enabling a Dream Pillow recipe:
- Click Start button and type %appdata% into the Search area
- Click the folder that is called Roaming
- Find the folder inside called .minecraft
- Move the mod zip file to .minecraft/mods
- Play!
Installation for Version 0.62 and Before

- Go to the minecraft base folder (the official launchers shows it when you click "Edit Profile" as "Game Directory")
- Go in subfolder "Versions"
- Go in subfolder "Forge9.11.X.Y"
- Copy the files from the Rediscovered Mod ZIP file to "Forge9.11.X.Y.jar" as usual (you can use the 1.5.2 instructions for this) and remove the META-INF folder from "Forge9.11.X.Y.jar".

I HIGHLY suggest using Magic Launcher if you are bad at installing mods Magic Launcher makes installing mods as simple as clicking a button and selecting which mods you want to install. If you have any troubles installing the Rediscovered Mod, I highly suggest trying Magic Launcher before asking me what is wrong.

Simply download the mod (for 1.7.10 and 1.8), open the zip files and go into assets, then lang, then copy the file called "en_US" from both versions, translate both of them and send it to me! Keep in mind that you are responsible for keeping the translations up to date if something is added to the mod by sending me the updated version.

To the general audience:
I do not own Minecraft in any way, shape, or form. I simply own the Rediscovered Mod which modifies Minecraft.
To the common person:
You are free to download and use this mod for private reasons. In no way, shape, or form are you allowed to claim any of it as your own or distribute it unless it is in a modpack.
To video makers:
You are free to make videos that include the features of this mod. As a matter of fact I encourage it. However, you must include the following:

To modpack makers:
Go for it . Just make sure to give credit where credit is due.
If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 99% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 1% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens.
How about Lava Smelting be implemented in the mod? If you don't know what that is, you can make a really fast furnace out of lava and throw items into the lava to smelt them instead of burning them.
To add onto those suggestions, there could be Pandas, Treasure maps, Cameras, Purple arrows, Dyed plankns, BUD Switches, and Exploding arrows.
mind if I add on some more?
skis
coral
branches
mine cart with dispenser
flags
exploding arrows
and colliding clouds
thats all I can think of

I already said exploding arrows and branches are technically already implemented in the form of sideways logs, skis were a red herring 'joke' and flags require the CTF gamemode as well

I like the new thread, and the mod is flippin' awesome. I tried it. The Skydimension looks really pretty with shaders and the No Cubes mod. I still think you should get a new license, but that's just my opinion.
Seasons: Dinnerbone talked about adding different seasons to minecraft
Humans: once were in minecraft now removed perhaps they can be brought back as a hostile that spawns in groups? perhaps they are decentlly rare mobs and tend to hunt other mobs including you!
Pandas: dinnerbone said he had models for pandas and were testing them maybe they could be either passive or neutural mobs that roam around and eat sugarcane they can be bred and they could drop leather
Purple Arrows: perhaps they could be a new special arrow made out of something from the cherry trees? maybe they could be poison tipped?
Cameras: could be a block that you can right click and would take a screenshot of what the camera is facing? (its been something thats unused in mc for along while) you could perhaps obtain it from chests or trades from either the green villager or pigmen
Dyed Planks: could be crafted by combined wooden planks and any dye dinnerbone was going to put these in 1.6 but they were replaced with stained clay
BUD switch: ill be honest i dunno what this could do i just know it was ment to be in 1.5
Skis: while some say its a joke it IS in the jar joke or not its an unused feature just sitting there.. could be crafted with sticks and maybe equiped on the boots slot could make you move faster on snow and ice
Coral: notch was goinged to add it but didnt due to 'its to hard to draw/model' could spawn in the ocean/and or the deep ocean and be a decoration block! could spawn fish near it and maybe give some dim lighting?
Branches: ok you dont HAVE to add this one as sideways logs now do the same purpose....
Minecarts with Dispensers: was seen in 1.5 but not used for unknown reasons perhaps when they pass acivator rails they fire whatever is inside?
Flags/capture the flag gamemode: while the gamemode might be a bit harder perhaps flags should be added in as a purely decorative block coming in all wool colours could be crafted with sticks and wool but if you wish to add in the gamemode... then how about while your in the gamemode you can rightclick the flag to pick it up and drop it on death? bringing a flag of any color to a flag of your color gives you some kinda point im not sure...
the brick pyramid: once where in the game now removed perhaps they can spawn in the skydimension as some kinda dragon maybe you travel into the pyramid and it has a few spawners and chests perhaps at the end is a red dragon egg so you can face the red dragon in battle?
Calm4.ogg as a music disc or background music: the title says all
Horse Saddle: removed in 1.6 Coolconor98 had a great idea for it (his idea was While equipped on a horse the horse has better speeds and jump height then with a normal saddle. ) perhaps it can be crafted?
Whales: before squids were added notch said that "whales would be the first water mob" they are sadly forgotten perhaps passive ocean mobs?
Beetroot/beetrootseeds/beetroot soup: WAIT before you turn them down ryan holtz said he wanted to add the beets and such from pocket edition to pc one of these days while this makes them a planned feature it could easily set them all into the unused pc feature catagory.... they could work exanctlly like they do in PE (proof https://twitter.com/TheMogMiner/status/400904332197253120 )
Treasure Maps: could be found in dungeon chest and when used could generate a treasure chest somewhere for you to find on the map
Burning Spider and Cobble Stone Creeper: notch originally said he wanted more mob variants and suggested these two perhaps burning spiders spawn in the nether? and cobblestone creepers could explode into cobblestone?

Keep in mind that while I am a fan of keeping these features as close to their original purpose as possible, I will still be adding my own flare to them in order to make the mod more enjoyable. Therefore some of the things in this mod aren't exactly implemented the same way they were intended to be. This is to keep things like the Sky Dimension from becoming something pointless that no one would actually use. Think of it this way, would you rather have a new fun Mario Bros. game or Museum Simulator 2014?
Blocks
Old Sponge
Lanterns
Tables, Chairs and Lecterns
Locked Chest
Spikes
Items
Leather-Chain Armor
Unused Potion Effects
Purple Arrow
Unused and Removed Flowers
(From left to right: Paeonia, Peony Bush, Empty Peony Bush, Empty Rose Bush, Rose Bush, Rose)
Mobs
(Ruby compared to emerald)
Cherry Trees
Sky Dimension

B. Not so easy
- Use the official launcher to download and start once Minecraft 1.6.4.
- Use the Forge installer to install Forge
- Go to the minecraft base folder (the official launchers shows it when you click "Edit Profile" as "Game Directory")
- Go in subfolder "Versions"
- Go in subfolder "Forge9.11.X.Y"
- Copy the files from the Rediscovered Mod ZIP file to "Forge9.11.X.Y.jar" as usual (you can use the 1.5.2 instructions for this) and remove the META-INF folder from "Forge9.11.X.Y.jar".
- Start the official launcher
- Select profile "Forge"
- Click "Edit Profile"
- Select the checkbox "JVM Arguments" and in the field next to it add
"-Dfml.ignoreInvalidMinecraftCertificates=true -Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true"
- Click "Save Profile"
- Click "Play" or "Login" to start the game. If only "Play Offline" is available, then log out and log in again to fix it.

Notch, for making such an awesome game. Even though it is past it's prime, and you utterly abandoned it, Minecraft will still have a special place in my heart no matter what.

-A link to this forum page.
-Credit to me for creating the mod.
To modpack makers:
Go for it . Just make sure to give credit where credit is due.
Question 1: Are you going to add seasons? I remember Dinnerbone wanted to implement them.
Question 2: What's your plan if something in the mod is implemented in vanilla exactly the way you implemented it?
Suggestion 1: Have tables work like fences, where they connect when placed next to each other.
Suggestion 2: Add the original door sounds and the grunt sound when the player got hit.
Suggestion 3: Add the human mob (the one from Classic that spawned when pressing 'G.').
To add onto those suggestions, there could be Pandas, Treasure maps, Cameras, Purple arrows, Dyed plankns, BUD Switches, and Exploding arrows.
mind if I add on some more?
skis
coral
branches
mine cart with dispenser
flags
exploding arrows
and colliding clouds
thats all I can think of
I already said exploding arrows and branches are technically already implemented in the form of sideways logs, skis were a red herring 'joke' and flags require the CTF gamemode as well
well at least the coral and mine cart with dispenser then
Okey...
Keep up the good work!
I saw that, and I like Stormister's mod better. Besides, a little competition never hurt anyone!
I'm on the CSM team, but I've retired from Minecraft modding for the most part. I made Cliffie's Goos.
I'm an old-timer, been around since Alpha. MC: Windows 10 edition is like the uncanny valley, almost modern Minecraft but off in every way.
I have an XBox tag, but only because I needed one to try the Windows 10 version. I don't have an XBox.
